"Work First Worry Later" (WFWL).
HELP "MAY" BE ON THE WAY! Last week
it was announced that Monk Apollo does not have a working radio,
so this means Mount Athos (SV/A) is now silent. The members of
the Northern Ohio DX Association have decided to help Monk Apollo
get back on the air. Since NODXA has not heard of any other
organization stepping forward to help, they have decided to try
to collect funds to purchase another radio for Monk Apollo.
Currently, NODXA is looking for "PLEDGES ONLY" to see
if there is enough interest to help supply Monk Apollo with
another radio. Once NODXA is sure that there is enough interest,
there will be an address announced to where to send the donations
(also some other details). For now, please send your
"PLEDGES ONLY" to: kb8nw@arrl.net.
9M6, EAST MALAYSIA. Operators JA2KPV/Hiro,
JF2UED/Tetsu and JJ2QXI/Mack will be active from Hillview Gardens
Resort station, 9M6AAC, between July 24-29th. The operators'
callsigns to be used will be 9M6/homecall. They will participate
in the IOTA Contest (just for fun). They are planning to operate
on 160-6 meters, including the WARC bands, on CW/RTTY/SSB. Mack
informs OPDX, "I know 9M6 is not so rare of an entity, but I
would like to take as much time as possible to be on the air
based on QSO requests." For any SKED on a particular
band/mode or comments, please visit the Web page at: http://jj2qxi.tripod.com/.
QSLs should go to operators' home callsign.
9N, NEPAL. Kiyo, JH3PAS, will take a holiday
in Katmandu, Nepal, August 11-19th. He will be using the callsign
9N7AS on the HF bands, CW, SSB, RTTY and PSK31. This is his third
visit to Nepal, and this time he wants to make many contacts with
U.S. and S.A. stations. He will concentrate on 30 meters and CW,
RTTY/PSK31 modes. Don't expect any low band activities because of
the summer season. QSL via his home callsign by SASE direct only
to: Kiyotaka Ichikawa, IssikiI-Nishi 1-74-3, Hiraoka, Kakogawa,
675-0117 JAPAN.
BN0, TAIWAN. Mark, JJ1TBB, informs OPDX that
he has just received his authorized license and callsign from the
Taiwan Authority to operate as BN0F dated July 1, 2003. He passed
Taiwan's Advanced class examination during this past March. The
CTARL executives said that he was the first case as a foreigner
to pass Taiwan's exam written in Chinese. Mark would like to
operate 80-6 meters CW/SSB and is preparing to import a Cushcraft
R6000 antenna. The BN0F QSL route is via JL1ANP, Mr. Tadashi
Watanabe. Mark adds that he still has permission to use/operate
as BU2/JJ1TBB. The BU2/JJ1TBB QSL route is the same as BN0F.
C6, BAHAMAS (Update/Additional). As mentioned
in last week's bulletin, Steve/AK0M and his wife Sandy/KC0RD will
be active as C6ASB and C6ASC, repectively, on Abaco Island

The complete RTTY logs for the 9N7DX
Nepal DXpedition (April-May, 2003) are now available

T5/EI5C (Where are the doc's? -- Update!).
Last week OPDX was asked to send out a "feeler"
about the 1994 T5/EI5C operation. OPDX was contacted by
ex-DXCC Manager Bill Kennamer, K5NX (ex-K5FUV), and he
reported: "That operation was bogus. The reason they
never sent doc's was that there are none. I found the
operator had no license of his own, was bootlegging the
club call, and had no authorization for Somalia."
TI2, COSTA RICA. Bob, W2BZY, will be active
as TI2/W2BZY from now through July 21st from San Jose, Costa
Rica. Activity will be on 40-6 meters. QSL via his home callsign.
TZ, MALI (Update and AMP put to the test!).
The August 12-23rd DXpedition to Mali keeps preparing for their
operation. They announced this past week that the team will be
testing a new concept in Amplifiers. These amps are tiny and
light but very powerful amps build in Spain with 400 watts
outpower on SSB and CW. This DXpedition will be the amp's
presentation and hard test to show that they are designed
specially for DXpedition and mobile operations. The DXpedition
team will keep preparing everyhthing to work SSB, CW, RTTY and
AO-40 SAT, all bands and especially 6 meters (if there is opening
from Africa on this magic band). Antennas will be outstanding
since they will use a very big roof surface to install them over
a 4 floor building by the Niger River coast. Verticals, yagis and
dipoles will be used to be on the air with 3 stations, 24 hours a
day. The QSL Manager is EA4URE, the Spanish National Bureau.
VP2M, MONTSERRAT. Look for several members of
SWODXA Southwest Ohio DX Association (SWODXA) to be active from
July 23-29th. Thanks to Keith, VP8MEG, the group will be on the
island for the IOTA Contest. The 8 members are: Joe/W8GEX,
Byron/WA8NJR, Kirk/W8QID, Jim/K8FL, Wayne/K8LEE, Bill/W8KVU,
Phil/W9IXX and Mike/N9NS. The team plans to have 5 stations on
the air. Two on SSB/CW both with a 3 element triband beam and a 5
band HexBeam. They would like to thank Mike Traffie of Traffie
Technology for the use of the HexBeam antenna. The PSK-31 and
RTTY stations will use a R-7 vertical and 3 element beam on 6
meters. The two HF stations will be running MFJ 500 watts solid
state amps. On six meters they will be using a 3 element beam
provided by WZ8D and a Icom 706. Their grid square will be FK86.
They also just received the callsign VP2MX which used to belong
to Bob Billings, VE1YX. Please do not send Bob all the QSL cards.
The QSL Manager is N8QET. Please mail them with a SASE for USA.
All others send at lease 1 up-to-date IRC or 1 USD, include a SAE
also. This trip is dedicated to the memory of Frank Schwab, W8OK,
who was a long time member of the SWODXA.
XU, CAMBODIA (Update). OPDX was informed that
Danny/M0GMT and Oliver/DJ9AO will use their assigned callsigns
between August 3-18th as follows:
XU7ACT for normal operations
XU7ACU for the WAE CW Contest, August 9th and 10th only
QSLs are via G3SWH. A Web site is available, as well as online
log checking. Please visit for updated information at: http://www.geocities.com/dxpedition2003.
YJ, VANUATU. Operators Trent/VK4TI, AJ/VK2IR,
Chris/VK3FY and Les/VK3WA will be active as YJ0X in the CQ World
Wide DX SSB Contest (October 25-26th) as a Multi-Single entry.
Other operators are invited to join the crew by sending an E-mail
to: trent@sampson.net.au.
QSL via VK4TI, using the QRZ.com address.
