VP8GEO VIDEO (Review by Editor Tedd Mirgliotta,
KB8NW). I really enjoyed viewing Part 2 of "The
Mirco-Lite DXpedition" video titled "VP8GEO South
Georgia 2002" (Written and Filmed by James Brooks, 9V1YC)
over the past weekend. James has once again shown his talents in
filming and writing this latest video. As with his past videos,
this is another ***** (five) star presentation showing the beauty
and history of the islands. Granted this is a ham radio video,
but this video and narration can pass as a PBS program.
Naturally, the video does show the Mirco-lite team setting up
antennas and operating as VP8GEO. The video also includes
personal interviews from the members of the Mirco-lite team.
However, the main thing I noticed on this video compared to the
others is the team's working relationship, not just between the
Micro-Lite team, but with the crew of the Braveheart and the
locals on the island. Between the operating, making friends on
the island and helping free a seal from a fishing net around its
neck, this video was truly enlightening to watch. It is must for
anyone who collects DX videos. This video is also available on
DVD (the first DXpedition on DVD). To order this video/DVD or
some of the other videos James has filmed, please go to the
following web site at: http://home1.pacific.net.sg/~jamesb.
VP9, BERMUDA. It's contest time for Joe/K1JB
and Mike/K1EU as they are off to another location for this year's
CQWW Phone Contest weekend. For the last 2 years they operated as
GD6IA from the Isle of Man and the 2 years prior (1999 &
1998) as VE2CSI from Zone 2 and a stint from Lord Howe as VK9LV.
This year they will operate as VP9I once again as a Mulit-Single
and part of the Y.C.C.C. QSLs for this contest ONLY will be via
K1EU direct at Mike Russo, 8 Rocky Hill Rd Scarborough, Maine
04074 or through the bureau. Prior to the contest, they will sign
VP9/homecall and will work all bands 160-10 meters on CW/SSB.
Look for them on the "36" frequencies (....14036,
21036, 28036, 21236, 14236, 28336.... If this sounds a little
strange, it is because our local DX repeater is 147.360).
