3A, MONACO (HISTORICAL 50 MHZ ACTIVATION FROM MONTE
CARLO). Just a reminder that this week the last European
Country will be activated on 6 meters. The 50 MHz band is
currently allocated to Radio Monte Carlo, but with special
permission from Monaco Telecom, the subband 50.2 to 51.2 MHz will
be activated now through 2359 hours July 10th, Monaco time.
Several local stations, such as 3A2LF and 3A2MW, will be active
as well as the group of their guests from Finland, signing 3A/
their personal callsigns. The complete press release by Tim,
N4GN, will be provided to all OPDX InterNet Subscribers as an
additional bulletin.
5H, TANZANIA. Just a reminder to look for
members of the Royal Omani Amateur Radio Society (ROARS) and
Nasser/A41KG to activate the callsigns 5I3A and 5I3B from Yambe
Island (New IOTA) now through July 10th. Their operations will be
on CW/SSB/Digital modes on all bands. QSL via A47RS, Box 981,
Muscat 113,Oman.
7O1YGF STATUS. "The Daily DX"
reports that Franz, DK1II, states that the QSL cards for the
7O1YGF operation are being printed. He states, "Written
confirmation is still under processing by the relevant bodies in
Yemen. Again, we worked on invitation and with the approval of
the relevant authorities in Sanaa and got therefore the official
callsign 7O1YGF. We are grateful for the support we experienced
by the Yemeni authorities. We expect to give you more
comprehensive good news soon... We hope this answers a few of the
many questions raised by the fellow DXers, but we may ask you for
your kind patience now."
7P, LESOTHO. By the time you read this the
7P8AA should be active on all bands and on CW/SSB/RTTY until July
22nd. Please refer to OPDX.457. QSL via DL7VRO.
A5, BHUTAN. Sam, JA6NL (ex-V63KU), is now
active as A52NL until July 5th from Paro city. Activity will be
on 40/20/15/10 meters SSB. Recent QSN spots show activity on
14195 and 21295 between 1200 and 1430z and again after 0400z. QSL
direct only to JA6NL at: Sam Beppu, Nisshin-Cho 2-5-710, Kawasaki
City, 210-0024 Japan.
AX8, AUSTRALIA. Look for the special callsign
AX8ITU to be active August 28th through September 1st by the
Darwin ARC during the 11th IARU Region III Conference. Activity
will be on CW and SSB (no specific bands mentioned). A special
QSL is to be issued.
CY9, ST. PAUL DXPEDITION UPDATE. Duane, WV2B,
reports: "We are happy to report that the land use license
for our St. Paul expediton has been received, and our trip will
proceed as scheduled unless weather is a problem. One of our ops
has a new call. Henry {ex:KE1AC} is now KT1J. So look for
KT1J/CY9 on SSB. Please note that according to the licensing
treaty between the US and Canada we must sign Homecall/CY9. This
is the correct format and will be used for this operation."
DXCC NEWS. Bill Moore, NC1L, DXCC Manager,
informs OPDX that the XW2A QSL is now being accepted for DXCC
credit. Meanwhile, "QRZ DX" reports that the approval
for the operation by Charlie, K4VUD, as XW1UD is still pending.
FO, FRENCH POLYNESIA. The "DX News
Letter" reports that Walter, DJ0FX, intends to operate from
here between July 10th through August 18th as FO0PT. Activity
will be on CW and SSB on 80-10 meters. There is also a
possibility for a one week ZK1 operation. QSL via bureau to
DJ0FX.
IOTA NEWS...
AS-056. Masa, JA6GXK, will be active
from Danjo Archipelago (Meshima Island), during the
following dates and times as the follows:
July 3rd 1000z-1300z, 2000z-2400z
July 4th 1500z-1700z, 2100z-2400z
July 5th 1000z-1100z
July 6th 1000z-1300z, 2000z-2400z
July 7th 1500z-1700z, 2100z-2400z
July 8th 1000z-1100z
July 9th 1000z-1300z, 2000z-2400z
Suggested frequencies are: 14260+/-10kHz or 21260+/-10kHz
QSL via only Bureau. Please Note: This is not a
DXpedition. He will be active in his spare time.
EU-052. Roberto, IK7XIV, will be active
from Zante Island between July 22th and August 2th and
participate in the IOTA Contest (July 29-30th). He will
try to obtain the short callsign J48X, if not, he will be
using the callsign SV8/IK7XIV/P. Before and after the
contest his emphasis will be on CW and 6 meters. This is
an holiday trip for him and, his holiday will come first.

(LE) Italy. Cards will be sent out as soon as Roberto
receives them from the printer.
EU-060. Antonis, SV1ENG, states that he
will operate from the summer QTH Kalamos, about 40 km
north of Athens (Evoikos Gulf) as SV1ENG/A and during a
couple of weekends from N. Stira/South Evia, CW only and
above 30m.
EU-063. Look for the "LA7M Modum
Group of NRRL", active from Svalbard, to possibly
make a side trip to Kong Karl Island (MOST WANTED!!)
during the weekend of July 8-9th. The group will
participate in the IARU HF Championship (SSB/CW).
EU-064. Eddie, EA3NY, will again be on
Noirmoutier Island during the IOTA Contest as a Single
Op/All Band entry. His activity will be on for 24 hours
on SSB using a 3 element beam, vertical for 80-10 meters.
Eddie states that he will be on 5 hours before and 2
hours after the contest. He mentions that he has to drive
1000Km from Barcelona to the island and the same distance
back. QSL via his home callsign to the bureau or direct
via 2000 Callbook.
EU-100 and/or EU-164. Serge, F6AUS, will
be TK/F6AUS again now through July 31st. He will try to
be active from Petricagliossa (IOTA EU-100) and/or San
Baizo (IOTA EU-164) for the IOTA contest.
NA-NEW. Tom/W6IXP and Barry/K6ST, will
activate two previously unactivated IOTA island groups
during July. The plans are to visit Stuart Island in the
Nome County South Group between approximately 1700 hours
local on July 6th through 1100 hours local on July 8th,
and Chamisso Island in the Northwest Arctic County Group
between 1500 hours local on July 10th and 1800 hours
local on July 11th, extended if possible depending on
transportation. The callsigns to be used will be
KL7/W6IXP on Stuart Island, and KL7/K6ST on Chamisso
Island. John, WD8MGQ, will be the pilot station, and
Fred, N6AWD is the QSL Manager for both islands. The
primary frequency will be 14260, with some activity on
21260, 28460 kHz, or 50.110 MHz as schedules allow.
NA-032. A group will be operating from
Ile aux Marins, Saint Pierre et Miquelon Archipelago from
July 14-19th with the callsign TO0DX on satellite and
40-6 meters CW, SSB and SSTV. QSL via K1WY.
SA-NEW. Ronaldo, PS7AB, states to check
out the photos of the two new islands in the Santa
Catarina South Group - "Santana de Fora" and

SA-059. Ramon, YV5EED, Public Relations
Secretary for ARV/GDXC, informs OPDX that the Association
of Radioamateurs of Venezuela (ARV) and the Grupo DX
Caracas (GDXC) are organizing the 2000 Venezuelan Navy
Day DXpedition to Los Frailes Islands in the Caribbean
Sea from July 12-16th. The callsign YW5LF will be used on
SSB and CW. QSL via W4SO which is a mail drop QSL
Manager. A special plaque will be given to the DX station
that makes the most amount of QSOs on different bands and
modes. Last year's winner was N9NU, Tim Dickerson, from
Sandwich, Illinois, USA, who worked their station YW7C on
Coche Island (IOTA SA-012). Please Note: According to

OC-NEW. Alan, VK4AAR, informs OPDX that
a team is still on track to activate 2 new IOTA
references: Browse Island and Cassini Island. This
activity will be done by a team calling themselves
"The Timor Sea DX Group" and operators
included: Dan/VK8AN) Len/VK8DK, Terry/VK8TM), Wally/VK6YS
and "Curley" (not licenced). The callsigns are
VK6BM (for Browse) and VK6CJ (for Cassini). It is planned
to operate from Browse from September 1-5th and then over
to Cassini (nearly 2 days sailing on the
"Tearaway") from September 7-11th. OPDX

J7, DOMINICA (Update). George, K5KG, reports
this past week that he is still on target for the J75KG operation
July 1st through July 11th. He is expected to be active by the
time you read this, depending on travel, customs clearance,
equipment set up, etc. There will be daily operations, including
activity in the IARU contest. He thanks the efforts of Lambert,
J73LC, for the help in planning. Latest word is that Dominica is
experiencing some power shortages due to equipment outages. They
are using load shedding throughout the island to deal with the
problem, so he may experience some unexpected outages.
Expectations are for daily outages in the order of 6 to 8 hours,
so if he QRTs abruptly, this is no doubt the cause. Art, N2AU, is
serving as pilot for the operation and is doing a yeoman's job

JW, SVALBARD. Look for the "Modum Group
of NRRL" to be active as JW7M from July 6-13th. The team of
operators are as follows: LA7IL/Jon, LA3OHA/Terje, IK2XDE/Andrea,
IK2JYT/Giovanni, KF6XA/Dave, KG0VL/Jeffery, OE3GEA/Gerhard,
S57FYL/Alexandra, S57AC/Atila, SM3EQY/Haakan, SM3JGG/Staffan,
SP5DRH/Jacec, and their Artic guide Eugeney Bouzney (from
Russia). Operators may sign homecall/JW sometimes. Suggested
operating frequencies are:
Also, look for activity on 144 MHz. They will be on the air on
all bands and modes 24 hours a day. They will work also on RTTY
and frequencies will be announced later. For 6m enthusiasts, look
for the beacon JW7SIX on 50.068 MHz. The QSL Manager is LA7M (via

KP2, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS. Dave, AG8L, will be
making another trip to the Windwood contest station on St. Croix
where he will be active as WP2Z in the upcoming IARU Contest.
Before and after the contest he will be active as KP2/AG8L with
NN6C as the QSL manager. The QSL route for WP2Z is via KU9C. Both
managers accept bureau cards. Dave is not sure yet what (single
op) entry category he will be using during the contest. His
decision is to be made after he finds out the current status of
the station.
LIGHT HOUSE ACTIVITY. During the 2000
lighthouse weekend, SV1ENG and SV1EFP will operate from Akrotiri
Light house on Santorini Island with the special callsign SW8LH
(CW only). They will try to cover all the bands above 30 meters.
Perhaps there will be some PSK31 from SV1ELG. The team plans to
arrive on Augusy 17th for unpacking and antennas instalation, and
depart on Auguust 22nd. Out of the time limits of the
"Lighthouse Weekend", they will operate with their
homecall/8. QSL via SV1ENG. OPDX InterNet Subscribers will
receive more details on this event as as an additional bulletin
put out by Mike, GM4SUC.
MUSEUM SHIPS WEEKEND. The "Museum Ships
Weekend" event will take place starting at 1330z July 15th
through 1900z July 16th. They expect 42 museum ship to be taking
part in this year's event. Suggested operating frequencies are:
Several of the ships will also be running some of their
original radio equipment on AM and CW. THE USS Salem - K1USN is
again sponsoring this event. Certificates will be available for
working 5 or more ships. Send a large SASE to W1QWT. QSLs for

PETER ON THE MOVE AGAIN! "The Daily
DX" reports that well known DXer and world traveler Peter
Casier, ON6TT (5X1T), will be moving his work team to Pakistan in
September. Between August and September he'll be traveling to AP
- Pakistan, VU - India, A5 - Bhutan, YB - Indonesia and 4S - Sri
Lanka.
QSL INFO AND NEWS...
Jean Michel, F6AJA, reports that he
received the PY0F/PY2ZDX QSL cards from the printer. All
direct requests will be mailed soon.
PAPO, WP4Q, reports that QSLs for him
should now be sent to his callbook address. His QSL
Manager Augie, KP4CKY, (his father) died several weeks
ago.
Boris, T93Y, has informed OPDX that all
direct requests for T92000 have been mailed, and you
should be receiving them shortly. He also mentions that
he processed all bureau requests received before his trip
to Dayton and most of those cards were hand delivered to
respective national organizations during the "HAM
Radio" convention in Friedrichshafen. In addition,
QSLs for all callsign (5B4/T93Y, T92000, T93Y, T94EU,
T9DX) are being processed after he receives E-mail
requests. He planned to do more requests over the past
weekend from the batch he received from the EA, LY, OK,
RA and JA bureaus. These should be in T9 QSL bureau next

He has also mentioned that he has updated his WEB site
with some 45 Dayton 2000 pictures, pictures of the
Bosnia-Herzegovina stamp and envelope commemorating 50
years of the first HAM QSO and 6 pages of the DXCC list

R3, KALININGGRAD. The Russian HQ station in
the upcoming "IARU HF Championship 2000" will be active
from Kaliningrad (DXCC entity UA2) signing R3SRR/2. Victor,
UA2FM, reports that they will be glad to work as many stations as
possible on all possible bands/modes. This is great opportunity
to work and confirm UA2 for your DXCC listings. Another report
indicates that this is a multi-national operation with operators
from UA2, UA, EU, LY and DL with 12 stations active
simultaneously. QSL is 100% via the bureau. Besides the above
operation, Ulli, R2/DK4VW (SSB), and Stephan, R2/DK8LV (CW), will
operate on all HF bands, mostly WARC, until July 12th. QSL cards
via homecall.
T7, SAN MARINO. "The 59(9) DX
Report" reports that Jose/CT1BOH and Jim/N6TJ will be active
for the IARU HF Championship on CW and SSB. Their callsign and
QSL route is to be announced later.
T8, REPUBLIC OF PALAU. Nob, JA7AYE, will be
active as T88AY from Koro Island between July 19-23rd. QSL via
JA7AYE.
W.A.C.S. Award. Ted, W8TTS, states that the
W.A.C.S. (Worked All Caribbean Sea) Award is alive and well. Jim,

YS, EL SALVADOR (6 meters!). Andy, YS1AG, was
heard this past week working the east coast from Flordia to
VE1,2,3-land on 6 meters. For those that worked him, his callbook
listing of a QSL manager is wrong. All QSLs go to him directly
