7Q, MALAWI. Edwin, ZS5BBO, who went to Malawi
during December 1999, reports to OPDX about his 7Q7BO operation
and states, "Unfortunately the operating time was restricted
due to numerous factors. However there will be another DXpedition
to Lake Malawi. The plan is to go back in December 2000. If
anybody is interested in being part of this team I would like to
hear from him or her and I will be able to pass on any further
information. This time I would like to have a station on all band
160m - 10m plus 6m CW, SSB and RTTY. I need specialists on RTTY
as well as CW for this operation." Meanwhile, Edwin is very
busy doing QSL cards as they come in daily. He would like to
request that if you or if you know of anyone who worked him as
7Q7BO to please QSL as soon as possible. He would really like to
get all the QSL cards out and sent by the end of March. The QSL
address is: Edwin Musto, P.O. Box 211032, Bluff, 4036, South
Africa. ADDED NOTE: Edwin mentions he is also in the process of
doing all the GM8V QSL cards. He also suggests to send your card
A.S.A.P to the above address.
9J2, ZAMBIA. Brian, 9J2BO, has been active on
40/30/12/10 meters. Look for him on 40/30 meters CW after 0400z.
Check for him on CW around 24910 kHz between 1445 and 1900z.
Also, check 28410 kHz after 1130z. ADDED INFORMATION: "The
59(9) DXReport" reports that Brian is not working RTTY at
present due to a faulty F3 key on his keyboard. He is looking for
a replacement but parts are scarce in Lusaka.
CARIBBEAN OPERATION. George, W3EH (ex-K2KTT),
informs OPDX that he will be at his home in Sint Maarten, Dutch
West Indies from March 1-5th. He plans to be active as PJ/W3EH
with operations on 80-10 meters. Also, look for him to be active
as FS/W3EH but only on 20-10 meters (which includes the WARC
bands). George states activity will definitely be on SSB and
hopefully CW as well. QSL via W3EH or N2VE.

will try to string up a 10 meter dipole for 28885 kHz liason

KG4, GUANTANAMO BAY. Karl, K1KO, informs OPDX
that he is planning to be in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, for about one
week beginning the evening of Tuesday, February 8, 2000. He will
be operating as KG4KO at various times and will try to emphasize
the lower bands, especially 160 and 80 meters. However, there has
been a lot of problems attempting to use the lower bands there
due to electrical interference from the nearby desalinization
plant. There are plans to move the KG4 Club shack some distance
away from the current location, but Karl is not sure whether that
will have already happened when he arrives. Regardless of this,
Karl will also attempt to provide KG4 to the Far East stations if
the bands are open. The operation, on any band, will be primarily
CW on the usual DX frequencies working split. QSL direct only to
K1KO: Karl Oyster Jr., 1448 Lotus Drive, Virginia Beach, VA

MD, ISLE OF MAN. A group of German operators

be a Multi-Two entry in the ARRL DX CW Contest. Before the
contest they will be active on 160-10 meters including the WARC
bands but mainly on CW with some RTTY. Their callsigns will be
MD/homecall and QSLs go to the operaters' homecall.

Pick, WA5PAE, received/provided the
following information about S07UN QSLs from Dani/ZP6CU,
XYL of Doug/ZP6CW, which she wants the DX community to
know about. Dani states,".... you might want to let
them know about the riots that trashed the post office
(few people dead too!), and the recent fire. I always
answer within a day of receiving the QSL requests so if
any are pending -- taking into consideration of course
for international mail timing -- have them e-mail me or
resubmit. Be glad to make duplicates.." Dani's
E-mail address is: zp6cw@sce.cnc.una.py.
Charles, K4VUD, reported this past
weekend on the current status of QSLing for his
operations as 9N1UD and 9N7UD, HS0ZCW, and XW1UD.
9N7UD (and 9N1UD) - All direct QSL requests are
filled as of January 29th. Also, ALL contacts made
prior to August 1999, have been sent a QSL either
direct or via the bureau (11 pounds of cards went to
the bureau last week). NO December 1999/January 2000
contacts will be sent QSLs unless requested via
direct mail to Charles or via the bureau... that is,
no more blanket total log QSLing for him, but he will
answer all incoming QSL requests arriving by any
means.
HS0ZCW - Same as above for 9N, except he still has
about 40 direct QSLs that need answering. (Part of
the eleven pounds of bureau cards noted above were
for HS0ZCW).
XW1UD - Received cards from the printer January
29th. He will answer the direct requests now on hand,
and all incoming direct and bureau cards as they
arrive. Charles will answer all requests but will not
blanket QSLs to everyone in the log. Direct cards go
directly back. Bureau cards go via bureau, of course.
Charles states that if you have not received any of these
cards yet, send again or wait some more. Please do not
ask Charles if you are in his log..."no time to
provide that time-consuming service." Finally,
Charles states, ".... all hams who made donations of
gear or money to 9N hams and the 9N1MM memorial club
station in Kathmandu, Nepal should shortly receive a
thank you directly from 9N1AA, either by E-mail or snail
mail. If you were a donor, and you do not receive thanks
from 9N1AA, please let me know so I can get your name and
address to Satish. I think I got everyone's name to
Satish 9N1AA, but mistakes do happen. Thanks again for
all the outpouring of generousity." de K4VUD Charlie

the QRP freqencies on 40-10 meters in the mornings and again in
the late afternoons and evenings. However, he will favor 30/17/12

joining him: Jim/GM0FET as V47JW and Ann/GM0RAO as V47AW. His

band enthusiasts,...... A listing of all 160-meter QSOs with XZ0A
as of 1/25/00 has been added to our web site. This area will be
updated every 24 to 48 hours. You are welcome to check to see if
you are in the log..... The 180-foot transmitting tower and
multiple wavelength beverages for both LP and SP are all working
well...... there should be many opportunities to us on work zone
26." From another press release by Dick, N6FF, sent out on
January 29th states: "The XZ0A operation is in its final
week, only 6 operators remain on the island. 15 operators are now
in Yangon, and may be heard as XZ1DX (Dan), XZ1YL (Sally), XZ1L
(Luis), XZ1ZZ (Rich), etc. These are really not pirate stations,
and their operating schedule is unknown. There are 3 operating
stations remaining, and XZ0A will continue to operate right up
until the 5 or 6th of Feb, and then back home by the 7th of Feb.
They realize that everyone did not work them on all the desired
band/modes, but hope most folks got either a brand new one, a new
IOTA, or a band/mode filler. For the latest updates, check the
Web page at: http://www.getnet.com/~k7wx/flash.htm.
