been the Oceanic leader in the Multi-Single category in the last

will make an effort to build a much better score and aim for the
World's Top 10. Operators will be Aki/JI3ERV/NH2C,

KP5, DESECHEO (OPPS!! Not the prefix KP1 as
reported last week). Over the past week, OPDX has learned that
there are more than one group trying to activate this one. All

Contest. Look for LU4FM to operate as LO1F in the CQWW CW Contest

LAST TWO CRACKDOWN (Update). You can find a
more clarified version of FCC Enforcement Chief Riley
Hollingsworth comments about the last two letter crackdowns on
the ARRL Web site ( http://www.arrl.net
) and this week's ARRL Letter. In short, Hollingsworth states,
"All we said was that if only the last two letters are
given, it doesn't meet Part 97". Hollingsworth pointed out
that if a calling station using an abbreviated ID is never
acknowledged and given a chance to give a complete callsign, a
legal ID would be lacking for that communication. To be strictly
legal, stations using a suffix-letter ID always must identify at
some point in the communication with a complete callsign. To be
completely legal, a station using a two letter suffix ID always
must identify within the first 10 minutes of the communication
(and each 10 minutes thereafter) with a complete callsign. You
can also hear Riley Hollingsworth's discuss this issue (using
Real Audio) on the Web at: http://www.rainreport.com/.
OD, LEBANON. Slavek, OK1TN, with
Vladimir/OK1CW and Pavel/OK1MU, will operate in the CQWW CW
contest as OD5/OK1MU. QSL to OKDXF, Bradlec 73, 293 06 Kosmonosy,
Czech Republic.

active! Tell the kids!). Santa Claus will be active as OH9SCL,
December 17-19th, from Rovaniemi before he makes his world-wide
tour. Activity will be on all bands and modes. There will be real
time logging on the Web. For more information, check the Web page
(site still under construction) at: http://www.oh9scl.com.
Or send E-mail to: oh9scl@sral.fi.
OH0, ALAND ISLAND. The B.I.G. Contest Station
on Aland Island, OH0R, will be active during the CQWW CW Contest
with, if possible, even better signals than ever before due to
newly installed antennas. They will participate in the
Multi/Single category with a joint venture of OH and DL teams
(OH2TA/OH0TA, DL1EFD and DL3KDV) representing the Contest Club of
Finland (CCF). OH0R QSLs are via OH2TA.
OZ, DENMARK. The Bavarian Contest Club (BCC)
will be active from here as OZ/DJ9RR in the CQWW CW Contest as a
Multi/Single/High Power entry. The operators are: DJ9RR, DJ7LX,
DL8HCO, DK3LT and DL1HCM. Pre-contest activity will start
November 23rd. QSL via DJ9RR (via bureau).
QSL INFO AND NEWS...
Some QSL Manager databases have N6TR
listed as manager for FR5FD. Larry Tyree, N6TR, has been
asked about this and he states he knows nothing about it.
The best route is direct to: Patrick Labeaume, 40 Rue
Louis des Jardins, Bois de Nefle, F-97411 St. Paul,
Reunion Island via France.
Some databases also list NJ2D as the
manager for LA6WEA. This is incorrect. QSL LA6WEA via
direct to: Kaare Olufsen, Levang, 8890 Leirfjord, Norway.
FT5WH QSLs. Gil, F5NOD, reports sending
out around 350 FT5WH QSLs this past week. All QSL
requests received before November 5th have been returned.
He states that he has the FT5WH log for QSOs up to
October 14th. He will have the complete log in January
when Gilles, FT5WH, returns back home (leaves December
7th). Next batch will go out in the middle of December.
QSL cards for the following special
event stations from Republic of Moldova (ER1A, ER1CW,
ER27A, ER50A, ER50CE, ER7A, ER8C, ER9V, ER0ITU, and
ER200P) are to be sent only to ER1DA to the following
address: Valery Metaxa, P.O.Box 9537, Kishinev, Moldova,
Europe (Direct or via the Bureau). Valery, ER1DA, states,
"QSL cards sent to I8YGZ, RW6HS, or to any other
address are as good as thrown into a garbage can for I
didn't authorized them to do this, and I'll inform DXCC
commitee about that." He also states that due to the
considerable increase of postal charges in Moldova, it is
necessary to send 2 IRC or 1 USD for direct return QSLs.
Please don't send envelopes with Moldavian postage stamps
for the postal charges can change any time.
Steve, P29BI, should be close to going
QRT on Bougainville Island (OC-135). However, he will
remain on the island until November 27th, but he must
send his equipment and personal effects home early. His
QSL Manager VK4EJ states that he is still waiting on some
logs as the mail is sometimes slow, but will QSL as soon
as he receives them. QSL to: Bernie McIvor, 30 Brennan
Parade, Strathpine, QLD, 4500, AUSTRALIA.
Chris, KL9A (ex-WL7KY), reports cards
for KL9A, WL7KY and KL1SLE can be QSLed via NU4N, but
KL9A cards have not been received from the printer yet.
ADDED NOTE: Chris wants to remind everyone that Alaskan
stations are NOT just KL7, WL7, NL7, or AL7. They are KL,
NL, WL, and AL, ANY number, 0-9. The only exception being
KL9KAA-KHZ which is South Korea.
PIRATE. On November 17th, a station signing
PY0FA was active. This station is a pirate. PY0FA doesn't live on
the island anymore and is somewhere in Brazil. Do not waste your
time or money sending QSLs. The only stations active from
Fernando de Noronha are PY0FF (Andre) and PY0FMZ (Helmut, DL2HMZ
until November 25th).
PY, BRAZIL. Alex, PY1KS, states he will be
active in the CQWW CW Contest as PY1KS as a Single Op/All
Band/Low Power entry. He mentions to look for him 160-10 meters,
but his best band is 10 meters. He will try some 80/160 meters
(only 100w). QSL via PY1KS: P.O.BOX 18123, Rio de Janeiro-RJ,
20722-970, Brazil.
PY0S, ST PETER AND ST PAUL ARCHIPELAGO (Delayed
Again!). Once again, the NATAL DX GROUP advises that the
DXpedition has been postponed until April of 2000. The Brazilian
Navy, through the Secretary for Ocean Resources, advises that the
trip to the Archipelago St. Peter & St. Paul has been
postponed due to the reconstructing of the wooden building and
anchorage by the Navy and the Brazilian Environment Department
which were destroyed by heavy seas. It should be completed by the
end of March, 2000 - probably! The NATAL DX GROUP sends apologies
to those who may have been disappointed; they hope to contact
them on their next DXpedition.
R1, ANTARCTICA. Oleg and his colleague Alex
will be using the callsign R1ANF/A during CQWW CW Contest from
the Korean station "King Sejong". QSL via RK1PWA direct
to: Nick Shapkin, P.O. Box 73, 164744 Amderma, Arkhangelskaja,
Russia. ADDED NOTE: Oleg, R1ANF, reports that his QSL Manager
Nick, RK1PWA, is having "big problems" in receiving
direct QSL in Amderma. Oleg has decided to keep Nick as QSL
Manager for his activities under the callsign R1ANF from the
Russian Antarctic station "Bellingshausen", South
Shetlands. However, for his operations as R1ANF/A from the
Chinese Antarctic Base "Great Wall" (first ham
activity) and the Korean Base "King Sejong", cards
should only be sent to the following direct address: P.O.Box 10,
Novodvinsk-1, Arkhangelskaja obl., 163901 RUSSIA. Cards will be
answered after Oleg's return to Russia in spring 2000.
S9, SAO TOME AND PRINCIPE. Matt, DA1MH, and
Markus, DL5OBZ, will be signing either S92CW or S92DX now through
December 4th. They will be active on 20-6 meters and intend to
participate in the CQWW CW Contest on 10 meters only.
V6, MICRONESIA. Hide, JM1LJS, will be active
as V63LJ from Ponape from December 26-31st (possibly until
January 4, 2000). Look for activity on 80-10 meters CW/SSB. QSL
via JH8DEH: Akira Miyata 4-28-5, Minami Nishi 23 Jyou, Obihiro
080-2473, JAPAN.
YU8, YUGOSLAVIA. Andy, RW3AH, will be in
Kosovo during the next 2 years and will use the callsign
YU8/9X0A. QSL info is not known yet.
ZM7, CHATHAM ISLAND. Lothar, DJ4ZB, will
travel here in the new year and be active from January 31st
through March 3rd. His callsign will be ZM7ZB. His activity,
reportedly, will be maninly on 10 meters using a Quad antenna.
Suggested frequencies are: 28395, 28495, 28595 or 28460 kHz.
ZP5, PARAGUAY (Update). Dale Long, N3BNA, and
Darrell Nerron, AB2E, will join the Multi/Multi team of ZP6T for
the CQWW CW Contest. Also joining the team will be Jorge Diez
Furest, CX6VM (CX5X). The ZP operators will be Juan/ZP5MAL,
Tom/ZP5AZL, Anibal/ZP5VAY and Luis/ZP5WBM. The station is now
equipped with 4 towers with stack monobanders from 40-10 meters
and a two element wire beam for 80 meters. Also, there is a high
inverted L for 160 meters plus phased beverages for low bands.
Their last operation in a contest from Paraguay was in November
of 1997. They will make a special effort on the low bands for
those who need ZP on CW. They plan to have three stations on at
the same time. The QSL Manager for this operation is Juan,
ZP5MAL, which is "OK" in all callbooks.
