3W, VIETNAM (XU Also). Members of the Tallinn
Youth Radio Club (TYRC) ES1AKM and ES1AX will be active from
Saigon starting December 4th, lasting until January 4, 2000.
Callsign possibly may be 3W6KM, but it is not final yet. Activity
will be all bands and all modes. QSL via ES1AX CBA. Jack, ES1AKM,
told OPDX that after their 3W operation they will be active
during 2 weeks from Cambodia (XU). Callsign is not sure yet, but
possibly XU7AKM.
4U1VIC, VIENNA INTERNATIONAL CENTRE. Remember
this station will be participating in the CQ WW SSB contest in
Multi-Single cathegory. QSL via OE Bureau or CBA.
5W, SAMOA. Steve, G4EDG, CW operator of
"Double Trouble" team, has left Tokelau, and is now in
Samoa. He has obtained a license with the callsign 5W0ST. Steve
does not have a radio with him, but fortunately he has his CW
keyer. He will try to visit Atsuo, 5W1SA, and operate from his
QTH. Steve is a CW only operator, and he is very interested in
low band operation. He will stay in Samoa probably for one month.
QSL via G4EDG.
5X, UGANDA (Last good chance to work Peter!).
Peter, ON6TT/5X1T, will be active in the CQWW SSB Contest as
Single Op/Single Band (10 meters). However, Peter also mentions
that he has been in 5X for almost 4 years, and his time in Uganda
comes to an end. During this stay, Peter has made roughly 150,000
QSOs as 5X1T on SSB/CW/SSTV/PACTOR/RTTY from 160-6 meters. He
will leave 5X on November 5th, and will go back to Kosovo. From
then on, Peter will only be back in 5X twice for one week until
the end of January (once middle December, and once middle
January). He will keep his station and the setup there until the
middle of January, though activity after this coming CQWW SSB
weekend will be very limited. OPDX InterNet Subscribers will
receive Peter's complete press release as an additional bulletin.

callsign 8S7A during the contests in October and November. He is
on IOTA EU-037. QSL via W3HNK.
9M6, EAST MALAYSIA. Just a reminder! Phil,
G3SWH, will be active as 9M6PWT from Sabah between November
3-15th. He will be on a holiday, so times of activity will be on
an "as and when" basis, but he will probably follow his
established pattern of early mornings and late afternoons, local
time. Operations will be on all bands 40 to 10 meters, CW only.
He will be staying in three different hotels, and he has already
received permission to put up his antennas. QSLs will be via his
home address of: Phil Whitchurch, 21 Dickensons Grove,
Congresbury, Bristol, BS49 5HQ, United Kingdom (with SASE and
return postage, or via the RSGB bureau).
BY, CHINA. BY1PK, the headquarters station of
Chinese Radio Sports Association will participate in the CQWW SSB
Contest as a Multi-Single entry. Operators will include
Yan/BA1AB, Wang/BA1OK and some students. QSL via BY1PK.
CX, URUGUAY. Jorge, CX6VM, will be operating
as CX5X in the CQWW SSB Contest as a Single OP/Single Band (15
meters). QSL Manager is W3HNK.
E4, PALESTINE. Pekka, OH1RY, is reportedly
headed back to be active as E44DX or E44/OH1RY from Gaza, now
through November 1st. His goal will be to break the Asian record
on 80 meters in the CQWW SSB DX Contest. QSL via OH1RY.
EA8BH CQWW SSB OPERATOR CHANGE. Due to some
unforeseen factors, Martti, OH2BH, cannot run his EA8BH site, but
he has invited a "skilled guest operator" to make a
serious effort in the 1999 CQWW SSB contest. Jeff Steinman, N5TJ,
35, will pilot an SOAB effort using the latest contesting
technology, including FT-1000MP dual-radio operating. Jeff is
remembered for his WRTC-96 victory in San Francisco. Please
listen for Jeff--give him a call and earn a special Yaesu
certificate and a folded QSL card for your four-band QSO with
EA8BH. The team behind Jeff is: EA8ZS, N5NJ, OH1RY, OH2BE, OH2BH,
OH2MM and OH3QK. The station will be on all six bands in the
single operator category. Contest participants are invited to
please take a moment to record the relative signal strength of
EA8BH compared to other Zone 33 stations. After the contest,
E-mail your reports to Martti at: oh2bh@n4gn.com.
Stations reporting and/or confirming QSO with EA8BH on at least
four bands will receive a direct QSL and a special award. Reports
and QSL requests may also be sent via regular mail to OH2BH:
Martti J. Laine, Nuottaniementie 3D20, 02230 Espoo, Finland

he will be operating as GU0AZT along with Phil, GU0SUP, and

T31, KANTON ISLAND. "Good News"
reported by Lech, LA7MFA, states, "Last Sunday, Kanton
Island was QRV once again. After using the T31K callsign with
LA7MFA/MM for a few times, Ueata (resident on the island) has
received his own license with the callsign T31UA. He is running
FT-747 with 100W into 20m vertical or longwire...... Please be
patient with him, and take good care of him if you hear him. I
hope his interest in amataur radio will not get spoiled by some
DX maniacs, who just want another "59" QSO. I guess he
is not able to run big pileups yet! He is very new to Amateur
Radio, although he is a professional radio operator, and he even
knows CW and the Q-code...... We will try to send him ARRL
Handbook, and maybe even a CW keyer for Xmas. The supply boat
reaches Kanton only 3-4 times a year, so I guess it is better to
send your QSL card via LA7MFA. I will try to get his logs
somehow, and print a nice color QSL cards together with my own
for KH8/KK6HC operation..... I have told Ueata... about the
upcoming CQWW DX Contest on SSB. He should be able to make some
QSOs, and he knows his zone number. He will probably only call
other stations, and please be patient with him if you receive his
call!"

CQWW SSB Contest as a Single Op/Single Band Low Power (3.8 MHz)

AYDOGMUS, P.O. Box 876, 35214 Izmir - TURKEY (E-mail: ta3yj@yahoo.com).
V3, BELIZE. By the time you read this Joe,
K8JP, and his XYL Beverly should be in Dangriga (they were
scheduled to arrive October 30th) where he will operate as V31JP.
Joe told OPDX that he will be here until the 1st of April 2000.
They are driving to Belize so travel time may vary due to the
flooding and mud slides in southeast Mexico. Joe states that he
expects to operate in most major contests with varying levels of
activity. Outside of contests he will be active on 160 through 6
meters, mostly CW, but with some phone and RTTY. QSL via KA9WON,

3rd) Gerd will continue his trip with a stay at VP2M-land,
November 18-29th. His expected callsign is reportedly VP2MGU. The

VK0M, MACQUARIE ISLAND. The "DX News
Letter" reports that Alan, VK0LD, is currently on contract
with the Australian Antarctic Research Division and will be
active until January 2001 from Macquarie (AN-005) and possibly
other Australian Territory locations. There is a possibility for
a special callsign (VM0xx) during December 1999/January 2000.
This is NOT a DXpedition, but Alan has many years of experience
for DXing from different locations and is used to working
pile-ups. There is no QSL manager at present. A Web site is under
construction at: http://www.geocities.com/vk0ld/.

with the same commitment and devotion). Millions of points have
been scored from this station by contesters from all corners of
the earth in recent years and millions more will come in the
years to come. The station website will be updated shortly
describing the changes. Dennis will make a few other exciting
additions which will make the station even more competitive and
user friendly...if that is possible. The Web site is: http://www.qth.com/windwood/.
In the mean time, please feel free to contact Dennis with any
questions you might have regarding this fantastic contester's
dream QTH at: K7bv@aol.com.
ZB2, GIBRALTAR (Update from OPDX.431). Dave,
ZB2/W8DO, reports to OPDX that he will be active from ZB2 for
approximately two more weeks. The best time for contacts is about
2:00 on EST on the FISTS frequency of 14058 and 21058 kHz. He has
made over 1,200 contacts (he states, "big pile ups for
