following DX information.
3A PIRATE. Gino, 3A2MF, informs OPDX that a
station operating on CW signing 3A/I1YRL between August 1-22nd
was a pirate. Gino has talked to Luc, I1YRL, and it was confirmed
that Luc was not in Monaco during this period. Do not QSL because
cards will be returned to sender.
5R, MADAGASCAR. John, SM0DJZ, reports that
from October 21-31st, he will visit Ake, 5R8FU, and hopes to be
able to operate as second operator from his home station. He will
try to activate 160 and 80 meters, if they can find ways of
erecting an large enough pool supporting antennas for these
bands. Also, he will be active on WARC bands and maybe 6 meters
and RTTY. John states that they will enter the CQWW DX SSB
Contest as a Multi/Single, but on a small scale! (At least 5R8
and Zone 39 will be activated!!). He provides the "Sunrise
and Sunset" for 5R8 around October 25th, which is approx:
0215/1457z. An online QSO-look-up will be available after his
return in November. Please check the Web page: http://dx.qsl.net/logs.
Contacts for 5R8FU are already now avaible for all his activity
up to July 12th. John hopes he will be able to make some photos
available on some WEB-pages afterwards. QSL via SM0DJZ, Jan
"John" Hallenberg, Siriusgatan 106, SE-195 55 Mersta,
Sweden
7Q, MALAWI. Eli, 7Q7CE, has been very active
over the past weekend on 10 meters. Check around 28495 kHz after
1315z and as late as 1430z Meanwhile, look for Harry, 7Q7HB, to
be active from Club Makokola on the south west shore of Lake
Malawi as of Sunday, October 3rd. By the way, this is the same
QTH as 7Q7CE. Harry's activity will happen when time and work
permits him to operate. QSL via G0IAS (DIRECT only).
9U, BURUNDI. Ragge "Gus" Jagero,
SM5DIC (aka 5X1D, 9Q5TE, 9X/SM5DIC), informed OPDX by E-mail that
he is now active as 9U5D and will stay there up to Christmas. He
states that he received his new license last week by the Dept. of
Ministery of Defense (ARCT) who now gives out LEGAL licenses. Gus
reports that his license's serial number is 001! Gus will be
active on all HF bands including 6 meters. Also, Leif, SM0BFJ,
Gus's QSL Manager, has sent along some additional information. He
states Gus is in Bujumbura and has a station at his office which
is in another part of the city. Gus states that he will be active
on all bands, but unfortunately, 40, 80 and 160 meters may be
difficult because of the 1800-0500z curfew. However, Gus has
promissed to stay over some nights at the office in order to work
some lower bands. His equipment is an IC-706, and the antenna is
an inverted L with a total length of 41m. On 6 meters he will use
a yagi. QSL via SM0BFJ (Direct only, no bureau) at: Leif
Hammarstrom, Birger Jarlsgatan 38, SE-114 29 Stockholm, SWEDEN.
By the way, Gus has forwarded all his documentation to the ARRL,
who apparently accepted his documentation.

to participate in the CQWW SSB Contest (October 30-31st) as
CO9BCC from Boca Ciega beach. Operations will be 160-10 meters.

OPDX wishes Julio a complete recovery.
EAST TIMOR. Peter, 5X1T/ON6TT, reports that
one member of his team, Brian 'Joe' Poole, G3MRC (5X1P), is in
East Timor and Darwin installing their stations. He knows that
Brian has a VK8 license already, but forgot his callsign.
However, it will probably take a while before East Timor will be
qualified as a new country. It must conform to one of the 3
criteria for a DXCC entity.
GB2, GIBRALTAR. Gary, W5FI, informs OPDX that
he will be active as ZB2/W5FI now through October 10th. Although
this is a business trip for Gary and business will come first, he

Europe almost every day. His emphasis will be on RTTY, CW, and
SSB on 80-10 meters. QSL via W5FI.
HB0, LICHTENSTEIN. Helmut, DF7ZS, reports
that they will be active from here and participate in the CQWW DX

as they are trying to get a short callsign from the HB0 guys. The
worst case would be HB0/DL0TS. QSL info is via DF7ZS. They are
planning to operate mainly on 40 meters operating split (looking
for DX at night) and a second station on 10/15/20 meters. The
team is going to test the 40 meters band setup during the WAG
