Sheet, GM0DEQ, GW0ANA, GW0VSW, HA5COK, HL2KAT, PY1KS, RA1WZ,
SM5MX, SP5ELA, VE9DX, VK8HA and YO3FWC for the following DX
information.
3W6, VIETNAM. "The 59(9) DXReport"
reports that Karl, W9XK, will be active June 1st-July 20th as
3W6XK. Activity will be on 20 and 15 meters CW/SSB. QSL via
homecall. ADDED NOTE: See XV7 below.
3W7CW UPDATE. Zygi, SP5ELA, from the Warsaw
University of Technology RC (SP5PBE) and President, reports that
Tom, 3W7CW/SP5AUC (ex-YI9CW), has been active from Hanoi, Vietnam
since April 11, 1999. Tom has a one year license to operate on
all HF bands plus 50 MHz, all modes. However, Tom's main interest
is in CW. He is planning to operate some RTTY once his station
gets fully set up. Tom's new QTH is on a second floor of a four
story building (A DXer's paradise: no nearby high-rises, open
horizon, tennis courts and parks all around. And, most of all, an
unlimited access to the building's roof where Tom mounted his
R7.) Tom is currently struggling with getting items ranging from
a coax cable to a laptop computer, most of which have to be
ordered from abroad. Fortunately, Tom took the majority of basics
with him. He operates his faithful TS-180 and reports hearing not
a single local 3W activity, only the neighboring BY, VS6, VK and
JA. He has spotted many West Coast U.S. stations during the ARRL
Contest, some of them really loud. Europe comes in with generally
poor signals that he has to combat because of the overwhelming
QRM from the local broadcasts, especially on 40 meters. Tom is
planning to stretch some long-wire antennas north-west and
possibly to other directions. He is a member of the Polish
diplomatic corps in Vietnam and signed a four year contract.
There should be lots of opportunities to work him, so dust those
keyers off... For those interested in operating from Vietnam a
word of caution: a one-year license fee is 500 (USD)! QSL cards
for 3W7CW should be directed to P.O.BOX 11, 02-800 Warsaw 93,
Poland. Tom has been heard recently on 17 meters between 1230 and
1600z.
6 METERS CONTEST. Ciprian, YO3FWC, wants to
remind everyone that the 1999 Oltenia Six Meter Contest will be
held on the last full weekend of May (First period: May 29th,
0400-2000z, Second period: May 30th, 0400-2000z). All hams in the
world are invited to participate in "Oltenia Six Meter
Contest 1999". Rules can be found at "Romanian Amateur
Radio Federation" Web site at: http://www.qsl.net/yo3kaa.
BY, CHINA. The "DX News Sheet"
reports that the Nanjing Agricultural University Radio Club will
be active June 1-30th as BT99WED to celebrate "World
Environmental Day".
BY, CHINA. Look for Pertti, OH2PM, to be
active this weekend (May 29-30th), from the BY1DX station in
Beijing for an all-band operation. Activity will be mostly on CW.
QSL BY1DX via OH2BH.
CF3/VA3, CANADA. Look for amateurs in Ontario
to begin using the CF3 prefix instead of VE3, and VX3 prefix
instead of VA3 June 1-30th, for the 75th anniversary of the Royal
Canadian Air Force (RCVAF).
CN, MOROCCO. Ben, DL6FBL/CN8WW, will operate
during the CQ WPX Contest as a Single OP/All Bands entry. There
will be some activity before the contest, but after the contest
there will be no or only little activity because he will take
down all antennas on Monday and go back to Germany early Tuesday
morning. Ben states, "Please: during the contest all QSOs
are welcome, of course. Outside the contest, please call me only
on bands/modes, we have not yet worked!!! After this activity ALL
logs will be merged and ALL QSOs (Oct.-Dec. 1998, Mar./Apr. 1999,
and now) will be confirmed in one step!"
CY6, CANADA. Look for amateurs in Alberta to
begin using the CY6 prefix instead of VE6, July 1-14th, to
promote the Calgary Stampede.
DX CONVENTIONS (Update). The Holiday Inn in
Visalia, where the International DX Convention is being held (in
the year 2000), has a new area code. To make early reservations
call 559-651-5000.
DX1S UPDATE. "QRZ DX" and "The
Daily DX" sent out a press release from Martti, OH2BH, on
his upcoming operation as DX1S. OPDX InterNet Subscribers will
receive a copy of the release as an additional bulletin. Here are
some excerpts from the release:
"Operators are Robin, DU9RG, Kan, JA1BK and Martti,

GD6/MD0, ISLE OF MAN. GD6IA will be active
during the upcoming ANRTS Contest, June 12-13th. Activity will be
on 160-10 meters, but their objective is to get some of the local
hams active on RTTY. Also, Doug, N6TQS, will be active as MD0BPI
on RTTY from here May 21-27th. He will be using a wire antenna
for the first two days, then he will have a beam up and running.
QSL via N6TQS or the G or W bureaus.

is only available from May 6th to July 31st and has been
specially granted by the Radio Communications authority
to mark the Scottish Elections and the first sitting of
the Scottish Parliament. (The 2S replaces GM and of
course other GM stations can use the 2S prefix) The
station will be active on 160-10 depending on conditions
and aerials available. Jeff states that Pabay issues its
own stamps (carriage labels) and a special 2S0PNS stamp
will be available.
EU-052. Jenci, HA5FA, will be active
from Korfu Island with his CEPT license as SV8/HA5FA/P
between May 27th and June 2nd. QSL via HA-Bureau.

Activity will be on 10/15/20/40/80 meters SSB/CW. Last
year's visit was cut short due to one operator suffering
a heart attack. QSL via GM0KVI.
EU-124. Glyn, GW0ANA, will be on
Flatholm Island from August 27th through September 1st.
The callsign will be GB5FI. He states that this will be a
big event mounted by members of his club "Barry

bands (Top band to 70cms) and modes (A1A, SSB, SSTV,
RTTY, AMTOR, PACTOR, and they will try PSK31). They will
also have 6 meters. QSL via GW0ANA bureau or CBA.
J6, ST. LUCIA. Jim/KF8VX and Cathie/KG8QL are
announcing their summer vacation/DXpedition to St. Lucia from
June 19-26th. Callsigns are expected to be J6/KF8VX and J6/KG8QL.
They will be active on SSB and RTTY on all bands based on
propagation. QSL to home callsign or the W8 bureau.
KH0, MARIANA ISLANDS. Another group will be
active from here during the All Asian DX Contest. Look for
Asa/JA6AGA and Tony/JA6CNL to be active June 18-21st as KH0/AF4IN
and KH0N. Listen for them on CW, 25 kHz up from band edge.
NEW #CQDX HOME PAGE. Doug, N6RT, reports that
the new home page of the IRC #CQDX Chat channel (with realtime
spots from DX Summit) is now: http://dx.qsl.net/cqdx. The new page includes
a java based IRC applet which you can try out if you have been
curious about #CQDX but did not want to download and install any
software.
OJ0 & OH0, MARKET REEF AND ALAND ISLANDS.
A few press releases by Dennis, K7BV, announced that plans are
now firm for the OJ0 and OH0 DXpedition. On May 25th, Dennis will
fly via helicopter from the Aland Islands to Market Reef with
Lars/OH0RJ, Seppo/OH1VR and Pasi/OH1MM. Operations will begin
that evening (local time) after the antenna work has been
completed. Listen for OJ0/K7BV, OJ0U, OJ0/OH0RJ and/or OJ0/OH1VR.
Dennis will depart the reef for the Aland Islands OH0 Friday
morning May 28th. One or two or all of the others may stay behind
to operate in the CQ WPX CW Contest. K7BV will operate as
OH0/K7BV from the OH0Z super station beginning the evening of May
28th and continuing until June 4th. He will use the OH0Z callsign
during the WPX CW contest. Expect appearances on all bands 160-10
meters, the WARC bands and the RS12 satellite. A strong emphasis
will be placed on CW. The 6 meters operation is questionable at
this time. QSL OJ0/ OH0/ K7BV via KU9C. QSL OJ0U and OJ0/OH1VR
via OH1VR. QSL OH0Z via OH1EH. The DXpedition Web site is now up
and available for viewing at: http://www.qth.com/k7bv/.

QSL INFO AND NEWS...
4U1UN QSLS. The recent operation by
Peter/ON6TT and Mats/SM7PKK should only be QSLed to: POB
3873, New York, NY 10017. (Remember ONLY this operation).
FT5ZH QSLS. Gil, F5NOD, reports that
around 4000 FT5ZH QSLs have been mailed out, and the next
4000 QSLs will be mailed out in about one to two weeks
maximum. They have received 8000 QSL currently. Some QSLs
were received direct without postage contribution. These
will be returned via the bureau. You can see the FT5ZH
QSL on the following Web site: http://perso.easynet.fr/~f5nod/ft5z.html.
The QSL route for 8P6AW is NOT via
WB4RRK or K1XN. John has never been the manager for this
club station. He suggests sending all QSL requests direct
to 8P6AW: Amateur Radio Society of Barbados, Box 814-E,
Saint Michael, Barbados.
The logs for the FO0AWI (Marquesas,
January 1999) and FO0AWI (Australs, February 1999) are
now online (as well as the FO0XUU operations) at: http://dx.qsl.net/logs.
NOT THE QSL MANAGER! Steve Hurst,
KA7NOC, reports that he is not the QSL Manager for YU1OJ.
He has received many QSLs for this station over the last
five years and has recently returned all cards to the
hams who sent them. Steve WAS the manager for YU1PJ
several years ago, but he has not heard from Zoran since
the outbreak of war in YU-land in the early '90's. He
feels this is why hams are sending him the QSLs. Should
you require any further information, please refer to his
Web site and follow the "YU1OJ" link at: http://www.magiclink.com/web/shurst.
QSL YC0MZI via Muhamad Zaini

WIA/IARU/VK8HA QSL BUREAU. Henry, VK8HA,
states in reference to OPDX.409, Alan VK8AV does not
refer to the WIA/IARU/VK8HA QSL Bureau. This bureau
receives QSL cards for members as well as NON-members of
the WIA. The WIA/IARU/VK8HA QSL Bureau address is: Box
619, Humpty Doo, N>T> 0836, Australia.
ZL9CI QSLs. These cards are expected to
start coming out, and they expect to have all of the
cards sent out by the end of June.
R200, RUSSIA. Look for special event station,
R200AP, to be active on all bands and on all modes from June
5-7th to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the great Russian
poet Alexander Pushkin. QSL via RA1WZ either direct (Al
Trubchaninov, Rizhskij pr.51-104, 180016 Pskov, Russia) or
through the bureau.
S9, SAO TOME (New on the Satellites?). Hardy,
DC8TS/KC2DMA, states he will activate this one on the satellites.
If you remember, he was active in 1996 as 5R8EO from Madagascar.
He feels that it is now time for another "new one" on
the satellites. However, he mentions that this is NOT a
Dxpedition, but a holiday with his wife combined with a bit of
satellite activity, if the licensing authorities allow this to
happen. He has not heard anything yet about his license, but he
will visit the Sao Tome Telecom to hopefully pick up a license on
Monday the 31st of May. Activity in the hotel will be limited.
Look for him between 1600-2000z. QSL is via the German QSL Bureau
to DC8TS or direct. Direct QSLs for destinations outside of
Europe require 2 USD return postage.
SV8, ZAKYNTHOS (Zante). Carl, GW0VSW, will be
operating from this Greek island (IOTA EU-052) from June 1-14th,
as SV8/GW0VSW. This will be mainly a vacation for Carl, but he
hopes to be active every day. Activity will be on all bands
mainly CW. He will also be looking for low power stations on the
usual QRP frequencies. QSL via the bureau or direct to his home
callsign.
XJ9, CANADA. A special prefix has been issued
to be used by stations in Saint John, New Brunswick during the
period of 0000z May 22nd through 2359z June 6th. There will be
several stations active during this period. This prefix was
issued to recognize 150 years of operation by the Saint John
Police Dept., the oldest force in Canada. Andy, VE9DX, reports
that he will be active during the CQWW WPX CW Contest as XJ9DX.
Look for him before and after the contest on SSB, RTTY and PSK31.
XV7, VIETNAM. Rolf, SM5MX, is about to travel
from Tokyo, his present QTH, to Hanoi to revive his call XV7SW
for two weeks, May 23 to June 5. Rolf will take part in the WPX
CW Contest. He is now the only remaining XV7 on CW. From now on,
only 3W calls will be issued. QSL via SM3CXS.
YS, EL SALVADOR. Jack, KE4LWT, will be active
as YS1/KE4LWT through at least August 15th. Activity will be on
10/12/15/17/20 meters. QSL through July 1st to: Jack R. Smith,
Unit 3105, JTF New Hope, APO AA 34023. After July 1st, QSL direct
to his home callsign. Bureau cards to the home callsign are
always welcome.
