8Q, MALDIVES. Marco, IK1ZPA,
informs OPDX that he will be active from Giravaru Island,
December 14-20th, as 8Q7IK. He will operate with an ICOM 7O6MKII
+ antenna tuner + power supply.... using an inverted-V dipoles on
a fishing-rod. QSL via his home callsign: Marco Bottino, Via
Priv. Terrazzi 7, 18010- Diano Castello (IM), ITALY
8Q, MALDIVES (Update/Reminder).
Lee, G0ULN, will be active as 8Q7LE from the Maldives December
22nd through January 12th (1999). He will be active on SSB only
on 14260 and 21260 kHz (also 10/17/40/80 meters). QSL is via the
bureau or to his home callsign G0ULN.
9G, GHANA. Michael, WK6O, is
currently here and is helping a Missionary friend named Sidney
Barnes, 9G1TB. Michael mentions that he recently operated the
CQWW CW Contest and made over 2000 QSOs on the 10 meter band
using Sidney's callsign. He will soon be picking up his own
callsign from the Ghanaian Radio Frequency Board in Accra which
will be 9G5MG. The G.R.F. Board has given Michael permission in
the mean time to use Sidney's callsign while waiting. He plans to
do more CW operating before he returns back to California in
January. All QSLs for 9G1TB and 9G5MG should go to WK6O. Please,
do not send cards to Sidney/9G1TB via the Ghanaian QSL bureau,
nor via Sid's home address. Only QSL via WK6O to have cards

ANTARCTICA ACTIVITY......
Sarah, KC4AAD, is active from Siple Dome, Antarctica a
few nights a week with her QSL Manager Bob, K4MZU. They
can be found on 14270 kHz after 0100z. Sarah's signal is
pretty week since she is only running about 100 watts and
a dipole. QSL to K4MZU.
Oleg, UA1PBA, is active as R1ANF from the club station at
Bellingshausen Base for one year on King George Island.
His activity this past weekend was on 30 meters between
0200 and 0400z. Also, check 20 meters CW starting around
2330z. QSL via RK1PWA.
A3, TONGA. Lee, A35VR (ex-VP2VE,
3D2VA, K3RGD), is now active from the QTH of Paul, A35RK. He has
been very busy on 10 meters CW (28025 kHz). He has also been
heard on 12 and 30 meters. Lee will be there until February,
1999.
EF1, TOXA ISLAND (Spain). Look
for special station EF1IAT to be active until December 31st
(1998). The Spanish islands reference is IDEA EA1-1-5. It is
located in the IOTA group EU-080. The station will be active for
the USA on 21.200 Mhz about 1800z. You can take a look at the

FT5ZH, AMSTERDAM ISLAND DXPEDITION
(Excerpts from a WA6KBL press release). Eric/F5SIH and
Mehdi/F5PFP on Amsterdam Island continue to be very active. The
pile-ups are still huge, so they are concentrating on the main
bands and modes. They have reportedly assembled their WARC
antenna and are active on those bands. They have announced that
they have begun RTTY operations. They ask the DX community to
understand that they are on a very small scientific and military
base with a fixed meal schedule. They must QRT at about 1400z, or
they will not eat. They do not have their own food or any cooking
facilities, so please don't criticize them. OPDX InterNet
Subscribers will receive complete copies of the press releases as
an additional bulletin.
HD6DX COTOPAXI DXPEDITION. HC DX
Group informs OPDX that they will be active December 19th
(beginning 1100z) until 1500z December 20th, from the
"Snow-White Volcano Cotopaxi" (Highest inactive volcano
in the world 5.897 mts.) in the Republic of Ecuador. A group of
10 operators will be active on 40/20/15/10 meters. QSL via HC6DC.

OX, GREENLAND. By the time you
read this Michael, OZ2ELA, will be active from Qaqatoq in the
southwest part of Greenland until December 16th, as OX3LG. His
activity will be on 10/15/20/40 meters. QSL via OZ2ELA: Michael
Jensen, Kanalens Kvt. 6, 2620, Albertslund, Denmark. Also, look
for Olso OX3UB, to be active from the same radio during the same
time period. QSL via OZ1GER.
PV5/PW5, PAZ ISLAND. By the time
you read this, the short operation from this Brazilian island
will be active and will only last until December 14th. Look for
PV5V (on SSB) and PW5W (on CW) to be active on 80-10 meters.
Also, look for them on the IOTA frequencies and the Brazil DX
Net. This island has the following reference numbers: DIB-63,
DFB-SC 01 and IOTA SA-027. QSL via PP5LL (direct or Bureau).
QSL INFO AND NEWS.....
QSLs for WH7/K9NW (Hawaii) are via WW9DX (Western
Wisconsin DX Association) direct or via the bureau is
"OK". The direct address is: WWDXA, PO Box 411,
La Crosse, Wisconsin 54602 (WWDXA states, "It seems
to be taking forever to have this updated at the FCC...
And, yes, we WILL get caught up on the '97 contacts as
well. Please no second requests.") Thanks! 73, WWDXA
J3A QSLS. Don, K2KQ, reports that he has been receiving
QSLs for J3A, both SSB and CW. ALL QSLs for J3A, both CW
and SSB go to WA8LOW. Under no circumstances send QSLs to
K2KQ. Your response will be delayed if you do, as Don
will collect them and send them to WA8LOW. Don also
states that QSLs for the CW operation will be a picture
QSL card. They have not been designed yet. Be patient!
NEW QSL MANAGER. Paolo, IK2QPR, has been reported to be
the new QSL Manager for UA0YAY who is operating from Zone
23.
5V7A QSLS. Roger, G3SXW, reports that the 5V7A operation
netted nearly 16,000 QSOs. QSL cards are being printed
now and will start to flow before Christmas. The QSL

Franck, FK8HC, was active in the ARRL 10 Meters Contest
this past weekend. QSL via VK4FW or direct to: Franck

Tom, N4XP, has announced that as of Tuesday, December
8th, all KH9 (Feb 1998) and ZK1XXP QSLs received direct
have been mailed with the exception of those received at
WA4YBV in the past 7 to 10 days. If you have not received
your card(s) and it does not arrive in the next week,
contact Tom via E-mail (n4xp@juno.com),
and he will be glad to research the contact. Bureau cards
will be processed after a short pause.
The QSL route for station EC1BXI in the CQ WW SSB Contest
and 10m ARRL Contest is via G4RRA (Bureau) or Callbook
(if via direct).
SAD NEWS. It has been reported
that Robert Dow, WB2CJL, one of the editors of the VK2SG RTTY DX
Notes, has become a "Silent Key" due to a heart attack
during the last weekend in November. He was 68 years old. Robert
reportedly issued his last RTDX Bulletin on November 19th. His
signature motto at the end of each bulletin was "REMEMBER,
DX DON'T SLEEP." OPDX would like to send our condolences to
the family.
SPECIAL EVENT. The General
Secretary of Yugoslav Amateur Radio Union, Mr. Srecko Moric,
YU1DX, announces that six stations in Yugoslavia will be active
to celebrate 800 years of the Hilandar monastery on Mount Athos.
Look for the following stations with the special prefixes:
A YU-SV team is trying to get a licence to work from Mount
Athos. Stations are active now until March 31, 1999. Activity
will be on all modes including RTTY, on all HF and VHF bands.
Stations will also be active during contest. All QSLs go to
YU0SRJ (P.O.BOX 48, 11000 Beograd) or via bureau.
SPECIAL EVENT. On December 19th
and 20th, the Catalonian Ham Radio Union and the Television of
Catalonia will put on the air the very special callsign EG3TVC.
The station's activity will be on the air during this year's 7th
Marathon devoted to collect funds for the scientific study of

T8, BELAU. Look for Hiro/JF1OCQ
and Tatsu/JA0QBY to be active from Palau Island December 19-22nd,
as T88HM and T88TN respectively. They will be operational on all
HF bands and 6 meters SSB/CW. QSL infomation is as follows:

UN, KAZAKHSTAN. "The 59(9)
DXReport" states that Valery, UN3G, has a permit for 6
meters (CW/SSB) to run 175 watts, good until September 10, 2001.
VU, INDIA. Miku, VU2WAP, has
been very active on 75 meters this past week. Activity has been
between 3785 and 3795 kHz between the times of 0045 and 0200z.
The East Coast stations of the U.S. report Miku has a big signal.

XT, BURKINA FASO. The "DX
News Sheet" reports that Mike/F5RLE and Joel/ F5AOW will be
active again from February 7th to March 1st, as XT2OW and XT2DM.
Mike will do the CW and Joel the SSB using an IC-706 w/100 watts,
2 element beam for 20-10 meters and a G5RV on the other bands.
Look for activity on the WARC bands. QSL via F5RLE.
XU, KAMPUCHEA. The "DX News
Sheet" reports that F5NRY is active as XU5NRY on RTTY. His
length of stay is not known. QSL via home call.
