QSL INFO AND NEWS.......
For those who have been asking, YES, logs are up on the
WEB for the BQ9P operation at: http://www.qsl.net/bq9p/
EX2M has a new QSL Manager. It has been reported that
"due to 'irregularities' with the previous manager
leading to rejection by DXCC" a new manager was
appointed. Send QSLs to W3HNK for EX2M contacts. His
address is: Joseph L Arcure Jr, POB 73, Edgemont, PA
19028, USA.
JUST ANOTHER REMINDER. HH2HM/F is not the QSL Manager for
BA4TB. The correct manager is 9A2AJ. 9A2AJ is the QSL
Manager for BG4TBD, BD4TB and BA4TB. QSL direct or via
bureau (Tomislav Polak, P.P., 34551 LIPIK, Croatia).
FM5GU and FM5GU/I QSL cards are to be QSLed via WA4JTK,
direct only. FM5GU reports to OPDX that WA4JTK does not
accept bureau cards.
Effective the 1st of December, QSL Manager Alan, VK4AAR,
will have a new mailing address of: Alan Roocroft, PO Box
421, Gatton, QLD 4343, Australia. QSL direct only to this
new address for a FAST turnaround for the following
stations: V63PD, VK8AN, VK8AN/6, VK8MI, YJ8AA, ZK2JJ,

sent to his old Dalveen address, it will reach him OK, so
do not re-QSL, but please use the new address for all
future correspondence.
Robin, DU9RG, has informed OPDX that he is no longer the
QSL Manager for 4G50N. The cards for this contact can be
sent via the bureau. All cards sent to him direct or via
the bureau will be forwarded to the station in Naga City.
Robin states he is not able to send out cards directly
from his end as he has not received all the logs from the
station. He has only the logs for the contacts made
during the first week of operation (January, 1998). For
those who have already sent the cards through him, there
is no need to send another QSL as all cards, IRCs, green
stamps, and SASEs have been sent to Naga City. He
suggests to be patient.

VE8/CG8, VE9/CG9, VO1/CJ1, VO2/CJ2, VY1/CK1 and VY2/CK2."
"Help take note of a very special event in the history of
International Amateur Radio, and work one of these
prefixes...73" de Eddy, VE3CUI
T30/T31/T32/T33 NEWS (DL1VU trip). This
information is courtesy of Tuck, KH6DFW (T32BI). Tuck has a daily
schedule with Phil, T32O, who currently has DL1VU and DJ5IW
(T32VU and T32IW) as guests at his QTH. Phil reports that Karl,
DL1VU, will not be going to T31 (Canton Island) as previously
announced due to transportation problems. The ship was already
booked full except for deck passage, which Karl declined. He will
instead go to Tarawa (T30) and then on to Banaba Island (T33). He
has confirmed transportation arranged to Banaba. The ship will
proceed from Christmas Island to Tarawa via Washington and
Fanning Islands. It is unknown if he will be able to operate from
those IOTAs. A detour of this ship to Canton would have cost an
additional 1500 USD, which Karl declined. The other operator,
Gert, DJ5IW (T32IW), will remain at Christmas Island until the
first part of December, when he will return to Germany. Phil does
not have the exact dates at this time for Karl to be on Tarawa or
Banaba.
TM, FRANCE. The LNDX reports to
look for Jean Yves, F5HWB, to activate the special event station
TM8UN for the French National Association for the Disabled from
November 28th through December 6th. QSL via F5HWB.
UA0, ASIATIC RUSSIA. Look for
Yuri, UA0SJ, to be active in the CQWW CW Contest 1998 from Zone
18 as a Single Op/All Band (100 watt) entry. Please send QSLs for
the contest and all QSOs direct only via: Yuri A. Maltsev, P.O.
Box 2304, Bratsk, 665700, Russia
UP5/UP6, KAZAKHSTAN. Look for
Yuri, UN6P, to be in the CQWW CW Contest as UP6P as Single Op/All
bands entry. This callsign will also be used by him in other
future contests. Also, Romeo, UN5PR, will be using the callsign
UP5P in some future contests (but not in CQWW CW Contest). QSL
for UP6P and UP5P are to be sent via UN5PR: Romeo Y. Loparev,
P.O.Box 73, Temirtau, 472300, Rep. of Kazakhstan.
V85, PULAU MUARA BESAR (Brunei).
By the time you read this V85QQ will be QRT. Activity from IOTA
OC-184 was by Hans, DF5UG, (assisted by Gary, V8GTW). QSL to
DF5UG. LAST MINUTE UPDATE/WRAP-UP: Hans became active at 1200z
November 20th. On arrival at the Island, he found it deserted.
Previously, a few people had been living there. Luckily he had
planned to be self-contained (Robinson Crusoe Style). He set up
the station under an unused wooden shelter, and installed the
vertical antenna supported by a bamboo pole on top of an old
water tank tower. He has two 70 AH Car Batteries to drive the rig
loaned by Gary, V8GTW. He plans to use one each night. He had
food and water prepared for just two nights. He had to cocoon
himself in the shelter with a mosquito net. Hans took a 2m rig
with him hoping to keep in touch with mainland Brunei via the
Saba Repeater. He can hear the repeater, but his transmitter
failed. So, all contacts were via HF. "This is the picture
behind the callsign HI" 73 de Ray, HS0/G3NOM. (ed. GEEE! The
things we crazy DXers do to put a new one on the air!)
VP5, TURKS & CAICOS ISLANDS.
Vic, N4TO, is currently on Middle Caicos and will be there until
December 2nd. Before and after the CQWW CW Contest he will use
the callsign VP5/N4TO and will be active on all bands 160-10
meters including the WARC bands. Operation will be primarily CW.
Vic mentions that he may also operate on 6 meters if an antenna
is available. During CQWW Contest look for him to operate as
VP5M. QSLs for VP5/N4TO and VP5M should be sent via N4TO.
WE STAND CORRECTED! In last
week's bulletin, OPDX.383, under "IMPORTANT NOTICE AND
REMINDER!", should have read ..... "the U.S. Postal
Service will increase their rate effective January 10, 1999, from
32 to 33 cents" (not January 1st). The actual announcement
dated October 13th is as follows (TNX WE9V):
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Stamp News Release Number 98-113
USPS Web site http://www.usps.com
POSTAL SERVICE TO ISSUE RATE CHANGE STAMPS
"H" STAMP FEATURES UNCLE SAM HAT
WASHINGTON. Non-denominated "H" stamps will go on sale at post
offices nationwide beginning November 9. The stamps are being
issued to support new postage rates effective January 10, 1999.
XZ, MYANMAR. If you are not an
OPDX InterNet Subscriber, you missed the special
announcement/bulletin which stated that the Central Arizona DX
Association and members of the XZ1N have extended their operating
date to December 14th (not the 6th as first announced). The first
group of operators have arrived and have began setting things up
while doing some operating. The second group of operators will
arrive on November 27th, just in time for the CQWW Contest. Dick,
N6FF, reports that the "XZ1N is still in the process of
putting up antennas. The 80M vertical should be up shortly. The
160M station is up and running. They made about 15 QSOs on 160M
last night. Even with the beverage antennas they have
considerable noise. They will be there for almost 3 weeks, so
everyone who needs them should have an opportunity." QSL via
W1XT. The XZ1N WEB site can be found at: http://ng7m.qrq.com/~xz1n/
