3W, VIETNAM. Eugene, RA0F,
reports to OPDX that Coly, UA0FM, will be active again from here
as 3W5FW during the middle of November. Coly's equipment is a
TS-520 (near 180W), ICOM-700 and FURUNO (marine TX for HF, 400W),
2 element Quad for 20/15/10 meters and a for 40/80/160 meters he
uses a GP's. Coly does not have antenna for the WARC bands, but
he will try using his Quad with tuner. On 160 meters, look for
him on 1826 kHz and RX +3 up (1400-1500z to USA, 1930-2030z to EU
and at his sunrise at 2300z. QSL via: P.O.BOX 66, Vladimir,

5N, NIGERIA. Bogdan, SP5CPR,
will be active as 5N3CPR once again. He will be here until the
middle of December. He will be active on all bands. The QSL route
is OK via his Polish callsign via the bureau, "he prefers
bureau confirming".
5R, MADAGASCAR. The French DX
Bulletin "LNDX" reports that Andre/F6AOI, Alain/F6BFH,
Bernard/F9IE and their wives will be in 5R-land from November
15th to December 7th. They will try to be active from Sainte
Marie Island and Nosy Be (both are IOTA AF-057). Activity will be
on all bands CW and SSB.
5R, MADAGASCAR. "The 59(9)
DXReport" states Ake, SM7CIP, will be active as 5R8FU for at
least one more year. His activity includes RTTY, but he is
currently putting up antennas for 160, 80 and 40 meters. He was
heard this past week on 28485 kHz arouns 1315z. QSL via SM0DJZ.
9Q, DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO
(ex-Zaire). The "DX News Sheet" reports that Pat, 5N0T,
and XYL Nicole, 5N0YL, who are waiting for licences, report an
application for the Association of the Radio Amateurs Operators
of Congo was made to the Government in Kinshasa in September.
Approval is awaited from the Minister of PTT, and then licences
should be issued.
AFRICAN ACTIVITY. From the
"Picture DX Bulletin", ZS6HZ states he will be
traveling to Arusha, Tanzania (5H), at the end of November, early
December, 1998. He will also be traveling through Zimbabwe (Z2)
and Zambia (9J). The actual dates are still unknown, but ZS6HZ
has to leave South Africa on November 27th and has to be in
Tanzania on December 5th. He is guessing that he will be in
Zambia around November 1-3rd and again around December 9-11th.
Callsigns are also unknown at this time as he is trying to obtain
license for these three countries. He states that he would like
to operate SSTV from these countries as well as SSB. Expect
signals to be weak because he will be operating from a vehicle
using dipole antennas.
BV9P, PRATAS ISLAND DXPEDITION. The
following was from a press release on the upcoming BV9P operation
which takes place 0600z November 12th through 0000z November
19th. Operators will be as follows: BV2KI/Bruce, BV2KS/Evan,
BV2VA/William, BV4AS/Jimmy, BV4FH/Paul, BV4ME/Chung, BV4QA/Ou,
BV7FC/Lieon, JA1BK/Kan, KU9C/Steven, OH2BH/Martti and the first
YL ham on Pratas XE1CI/Nellie. Suggested frequencies:
E3, ERITREA. By the time you
read this the "Space A DX Group" should have arrived in
Asmara, Eritrea, the nights of November 3rd, and 4th. They will
make every attempt to be active starting during the day of
November 5th. They cannot get their callsigns until they are in
Eritrea, but they were told it would be assigned starting at
E30AA and up. They will use only one call unless required to use
each operator's call. They will be active until midday of
November 17th, and fly out just after midnight the morning of
November 18th. With the added $500 dollars cost per operator for
the license, and the recent activity from Eritrea, they have
scaled down to 10 operators. They are: WD4NGB/Bruce, KO4RR/Joe,
N5VL/Vance, IV3FSG/Elvira, I8NHJ/Max, EA8AFJ/Michel,
OK1TN/Slavek, N9NS/ Mike, NF6S/Larry and DJ9ZB/Franz. They plan
on operating 3 stations 24 hours a day. This week's
complete/unedited press release will be sent to all OPDX InterNet
Subscribers as an additional bulletin.
E3, ERITREA. Zoli, HA5PP,
continues to be active as E30HA, reportedly making over 7000 QSOs
so far. He is trying to put up something for 40 meters, so keep a
lookout for him there. Also, he is going to try to be active on
CW. He wants to stay until November 8th, but he may go back with
better equipment just before the CQWW CW Contest. In between, he

GD4, ISLE OF MAN. Steve, G4UOL,
will be active as GD4UOL on CW only on all the HF bands from
2000z Friday, November 20th to around 1600z Friday, December 4th.
QSLs should go to the GD bureau rather than his home callsign as
this speeds up the process. QSLs direct are via his home callsign
of G4UOL. Skeds via email are welcome outside the contest. Send

Steve expects to concentrate this year on 18 and 24 MHz, as long
as the bands produce QSOs. More information about his previous

In the CQWW CW Contest he will be Single Op/Low Power,
unassisted.
HI8, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC. Another
Bavarian Contest Club (BCC) operation will take place from as
DL1HCM/HI8, from November 24th until December 6th, from Samana
Peninsula in the northern part of the Dominican Republic. Mike,
DL1HCM, will be an entry into CQWW DX CW Contest as SOP/all band/
high power. Outside the contest the main emphasis will be CW on
160m, 80m and WARC bands. Mike states, "I will take a
microphone with me for SSB operation, but please don't expect too
much, I am a very untrained SSB operator." QSL to DL1HCM,

LA, NORWAY (Special Suffix).
Ben, OZ5AAH (ex: OY5IPA,OX3IPA, TF/OZ5IPA+), will be active as
LA/OZ5IPA from Oslo, Norway, November 6-9th. He will also be an
entry in the IPA (police) Contest (Nov. 7-8th). Ben works all
bands CW/SSB. He will be "OK" for most police awards.

PACIFIC DXPEDITION (Update).
Last week we reported that Karl/DL1VU and Gerhard/DJ5IW would be
active this week from T32-land (Christmas Island), but this is
just a start of a string of activities. The "DX News
Letter" reports that Gerhard, DJ5IW, will return (not sure
where) on Decemeber 1st, but Karl will go on and travel to the
following: Kanton Island signing T31AF, to Western Kiribati as
T30CT and to Banaba as T33VU. More activities are planned, but
they will depend on the transportation facilities. All QSLs via
buro for T32IW/T32VU via DJ5IW, all others via DL2MDZ.

PY1MF/P DXpedition to Ilha Grand Island (SA-029) can be
QSLed via the bureau or to PY1MF.
Andy, RW3AH, reports that a new WEB site is now active
for the 1997- 1998 9X0A DXpedition. For QSL information

NOT ME! Roger, G3SXW, informs OPDX that the callsign YA1R
was issued to him in 1970. Many QSL directories/lists
currently list Roger's callsign and his QSL Manager at
that time, G3TXF. Roger reports just recently he has
received inquiries about YA1R who has been active this
month, and he has started receiving direct QSL cards.
Roger states, "This is not me! I have not been in
Afghanistan since 1973. Sorry - I know nothing about this
operation and cannot help with information or QSL

Bernie, W3UR, Editor of "The Daily DX", reports
that on October 30th, he mailed out all the A61AJ bureau
QSLs (3,000+) to the ARRL out going QSL bureau. He is
still missing logs from April 1, 1998 to date, November
26, 1996 to November 22, 1997, and logs prior to November
17 1996. He does have logs for these dates: November 17,
1996 to November 25, 1996, November 23, 1997 to March 31,
1997. All direct requests for these dates have been
mailed out. Anyone still needing a QSL may send to:

Josep/EA3BT and Nuria/EA3WL report that their activity
from Martinica logged 7085 QSOs in just 6 days of
operation, during which they were active on all modes
(SSB, CW and RTTY) with the callsigns FM/EA3BT, FM/EA3WL
and TO8B (during the CQ WW SSB Contest). Their logs are

Their WEB page will be updated with their operation as
soon as they get some pictures processed. Remember that
the QSL route of all the 3 callsigns is: Josep Gibert,

Charlie, W0YG, reports that all direct requests to date
for his A22 and Z21 operations, were answered as of
October 30th. PLEASE NOTE: Charlie states that he has
been getting lots of requests with IRCs that are
"not stamped". Please make sure your IRCs are
stamped (refer to OPDX.370.2 and OPDX.371). Charlie
states that he cannot use unstamped IRCs, so he will
return those cards via the bureau.
SILENT KEY. Egene Korotkov,
RW0AY, became a Silent Key on October 7th. Egene enjoyed working
DX and designing radio equipment. Condolences to his wife and
family.
SK7, VEN ISLAND (Rare Swedish
Island, IOTA EU-137). A group of 9 operators from the Swedish
DX-club SSRA (SM7AVZ, SM7BCX, SM7CQY, SM7DAY, SM7DDR, SM7DXQ,
SM7EQL, SM7MPM and SM7NGH) will operate from this island from
1500z on November 6th to 1300z on November 8th. Theu will use the
callsign SK7DX. Two stations will be active: One station
consisting of IC-765, Drake L4B and a 3 element tribander; the
other one with a Kenwood TS-570 and a R7 vertical. Both stations
will be on the air around the clock. Listen for them on the
normal IOTA frequencies. QSL to SM7DXQ direct: Mats Freden,
Klagerupsvagen 258. S-21232 Malmoe, Sweden or via the bureau.
TM5, FRANCE. The LNDX reports
that Dominique, F5SJB, will once again be active as TM5CW from
November 27th to December 7th. He will participate in the CQWW CW
Contest.
TY, BENIN (Just a reminder!).
Look for the German team of Sigi/DL7DF, Tom/DL7BO & YL,
Frank/DL7UFR and Tom/DJ6TF to be active this week from November
4th to November 17th. They will operate especially on the low
bands and on CW, but SSB and RTTY are also possible. They will
use 2 complete stations. Look for them on the usual DX
frequencies. QSL via DL7DF.
VK9C, COCOS-KEELING ISLAND.
Hide, JM1LJS, informs OPDX that he will be going here December
26, 1998 to January 2, 1999. His callsign will be VK9CL. Hide
will operate on 80-10 meters bands CW/SSB/(FM). He states that
his operating station will be a "simple system" due to
the weight limit of the airplane: 400W+DP or GP. Hide adds that
from January 2-4th, look for him to use VK6SJS. If you hear him
sign VK6SJS/HRP on January 3rd, his QTH is the "Hutt River
Province" (He states there is no credit of DXCC for this

VK9L, LORD HOWE ISLAND. Plans
are well underway for a DXpedition to Lord Howe Island between
November 22nd and December 1st. The callsign to be used will be
VK9LX. It has been reported from a press release that the bulk of
the equipment has arrived, and the team members are signed up.
The team leader is Nick, VK2ICV. The other team members are:
Bill/K6KM, Charlie/N0TT, Ray/N4RU and Mary Lou/NM7N. The
DXpedition has two purposes: to provide a DX contacts with Lord
Howe Island and to participate in the CQWW CW Contest. Before the
contest they will be operating 2 stations on all the HF bands,
including the WARC bands and 160 meters. Operations are also
planned for 6 meters. Modes of operation will be CW, SSB, and
RTTY. Before the contest they will be emphasizing operations on
the low bands and WARC bands, propagation permitting. During the
contest they will be operating as Multi/Single working all HF
bands except the WARC bands. Propagation information for the
various bands has been prepared by Bob, NM7M, and is available on

VU4, ANDAMAN AND NICOBAR ISLANDS. Ted,
W2FG, reports that Nat, VU2NTA, is now making another attempt to
try to obtain permission for a VU4 operation. Nat states the the
going is pretty tough with the government, and they are
"very unsupportive on the matter", but he is hopeful.
He (Nat) has requested for all DXers to send him an E-mail
showing their callsigns requesting the activation of Andaman
& Nicobar Islands by Indian amateurs. (PLEASE NOTE: Nats
states, "THAT ANY REQUESTS TO JOIN THE EXPEDITION BY NON
INDIAN HAS and WILL DEFINITELY MAKE THE EXPEDITION A NON

YA, AFGANISTAN. The "DX
News Sheet" reports that Mike, K5KWG, is trying to obtain
permission to be active during his regular work trips. However,
Mike is currently active in a Albania until December 1st as
ZA1MH. QSL via Z32KV.
ZK3, TOKELAU. It seems that Ron,
ZL1AMO, was not able to book passage on the boat to the island to
operate as ZK3RW during last week's contest. Reports indicate
that he will try again this week.
ZL8, KERMADEC. Bob, ZL1RS, has
announced to look for ZL8RS to be active from the Kermadec
Islands, November 9-17th. Bob states that he intends to focus
mainly on 17/15/12/10 meters SSB with some slow CW on 30 meters.
Operation will depend on his work schedule. QSL via ZL1RS (R
