EDITOR'S NOTE: Due to the upcoming CQWW SSB DX
Contest and some additional announcements of stations
participating in the contest, I felt that an earlier release of
the OPDX bulletin was warrented.
A22, BOTSWANA. Charlie, W0YG,
will be returning to South Africa on November 4th. He states that
he will probably not operate from there this trip, but he will go
to Botswana on November 15th, where he will again be active from
his vehicle as A22/W0YG. He will attempt some 80 meters operation
when in the bush, but he is not optimistic because mobile
antennas on the low bands are more or less dummy loads. Charlie
will be on the WARC bands regularly as well as the normal bands,
40 through 10 meters. As before, QSL to W0YG. SPECIAL NOTE FROM
CHARLIE: "Please do not include cards from other operations
in the same envelope with A22 cards. Send requests for QSL's from
other operation in separate envelopes. I do not yet have cards
from my recent A22/W0YG or Z21/W0YG operations. While they were
ordered immediately upon my return, they have not yet been
shipped. I have been assured that I will have these in hand the
first of next week, so I should be able to at least get some
cards out before I leave."
CP6, BOLIVIA. Olli, OH0XX, will
operate CP6AA in CQWW SSB Contest as a Single Op/All Band entry.

XZ, MYANMAR. The following is a
press release by Dan Brown, NA7DB: "XZ1N will return to the
airwaves beginning November 21, 1998, through December 6, 1998.
The operation will take place from Yangon, Union of Myanmar. Most
of the team are members of the Central Arizona DX Association,
with some members of the original XZ1N operation in 1996. This
will be a multiple station operation covering 160 through 10
meters including the WARC bands. Modes of operation will be CW,
SSB, & RTTY. There will be entries in the CQWW CW Contest and
the ARRL 160 meter contest. CADXA and the team members are very
honored to be invited back by the government of Myanmar. Since
there have been no other Amateur operations for the last two
years from Myanmar, we are sure the DX community will be as
excited as we are. The solar cycle upswing leads us to believe
this can be a very successful operation. We are also honored to
have Bob Brown, NM7M, do our propagation studies. Original team
member WA6CDR, Robin, will be returning and will dedicate the
bulk of his time to 160 meters. Planned improvements over his
successful 1996 efforts give us great hope for even greater
success in 1998. Returning YL operators, Millie, WY7K, Sally,
KM5EP, and Jessica, N7ZRD, will give the operation a unique
flavor and an added incentive for those seeking YL contacts with
a rare country. Mike Bill, N7MB, a veteran DXpeditioner and
current President of CADXA, will be active on CW and RTTY.
Additional team members, web site address, propagation
information, and other details will be available in upcoming news
releases."
YL80, LATVIA. Amateurs from
Latvia are allowed to use the special prefix YL80 in October and
November to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the proclamation of
Republic of Latvia (November 18, 1918). An award is available for
contacts made during this period. For further information, please
visit the WEB site: http://www.hamradio.lv/
ZF2, CAYMAN ISLANDS. Robert,
KE5BR, will be operating under the callsign of ZF2UH again this
year from Georgetown, Grand Cayman, from November 6-14th. He will
work 40 meters in the early mornings SSB and all bands during the
day. During evenings he will work 10 meters, and after a hour or
so on SSB he will go to CW (as he states, "the five hams on
Cayman don't operate CW and there are those who need CW contacts
from ZF-land!"). QSL via KE5BR. SPECIAL NOTE: He will also
be operating on the NOVICE CW bands, and asks that no calls other
than NOVICES call him while in the NOVICE sub bands. Robert
enjoys giving the new comers the thrill of DXing and getting a
color picture QSL for their collection. He will QSL all NOVICE
contacts as soon as he returns to the states. Robert states,
"During the day I will be all over the bands and will be
giving daily info to the Kansas City DX Club and the Santa Fe
Trail ARC members of my activities so they can put it out on
packet. Thanks again and hope those who need ZF will try to get
me."
ZP6, PARAGUAY. Juan, ZP5MAL,
will be active during the CQWW SSB Contest as ZP6T, Single
Operator, Single Band (15 meter, HP). QSL via ZP5MAL. The the
Paraguay bureau is also "OK".
