3W, VIETNAM. Jani, YB0US/NM6US,
will be operating from Vietnam as 3W6US. Operation will be from
October 22-26th, this is including the CQWW SSB Contest. Overall
operation will be SSB only. Watch 14195, 14260, 21295 and 21360

4L, GEORGIA. Omari, 4L5O, will
be active in the CQWW SSB Contest as a low power Single
Operator/Single Band (3.8 MHz) entry. QSL ONLY via CBA. If

9A, CROATIA. QSL Manager Mac,
W3HC, states that next week will be a good time to work Croatia.
Look for 9A1CHP and 9A1CEI to operate as 9A7P during the upcoming
contest and during the upcoming months. W3HC will handle the
cards direct with postage.
A6, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES.
"The 59(9) DXReport" states to look for Frank, DL2CC,
to be active as A61AC during the CQWW SSB Contest. QSL via ON7LX.
BJDXC AND SCSDXT JOIN FORCES FOR 1998
CQWW SSB CONTEST. Tim, N4GN, reports in a press release
that two major activities have been planned to provide you with
Zone 24 contacts on a variety of bands. From Beijing, China, the
South China Sea DX Team (SCSDXT) has teamed up with the newly
founded Beijing DX Club (BJDXC) and drafted a first-ever
Multi-Multi operation to take place from mainland China. The CRSA
and Chinese government have allowed the team to use the historic
call indicator B1A (Bravo One Alpha). The 6-station affair will
use Yaesu FT1000MP radios and Alpha 91B amplifiers with beam
antennas. The Finnish operators involved are OH2BH, OH2KI, OH2PM,
OH2TA, OH2YY and OH6LI while the Chinese team consists of BA1AA,
BA1AB, BA1AJ, BA1DU, BA1FB, BA1HAM, BA1KA, BA1OK, BG1AC, BZ1DCH,
BZ1BM and BA4TB. From Macau, at the QTH of XX9X in the heart of
Macau, look for activity by the visiting U.S. group of N6AA,
K6JL, K6MC, AB6BH, K5OT, N6ZZ and W6XD together with XX9AS, XX9MD
and XX9XF. They will be racing against B1A in the Multi-Multi
category. XX9X is a joint contest callsign of A.R.M. Macau,
SCSDXT and Alberto Simao, XX9AS, which was used in several
activities in the past. The build-up of the station will bring
the XX9 signals on the air the week prior to the contest by this
group using their own personal callsigns. QSL both B1A and XX9X
via Steve Weatley, KU9C.
C6, BAHAMAS. Operators
Kevin/N8ZJN/C6AKL, James/KB8YKR, Byron/WA8NJR, Joe/W8GEX/C6AJR
and John/WZ8D/C6AIE will be active as C6DX from December 8-16th,
from the island of Abaco (IOTA NA-080). Activity will be on 160
meters through 6 meters and maybe 2 meters. Their main focus on
this trip will be the ARRL 10 Meter Contest and 6 meter F2, TEP,
and E-skip. Their callsign last year was C6AIE. QSL to WZ8D at:

CP6, BOLIVIA. Mats, LU9AY,
reports that he will be signing CP6/LU9AY, from November 25th to
December 5th. Activity will be on 160-10 meters CW/SSB. QSL via
LU9AY: 670 Honorio Pueyrredon, ZIP 1405, Buenos Aires, Argentina
(DO NOT use the old LU9AUY via POB 13, ZIP 1411). Bureau cards
are OK.
CQ9, MADEIRA. The team of CT3HK,
CT3IA, CT3BD, CT3HF, CT3BM, CT3DL and CT3KN will be active in the
CQWW SSB Contest with the special callsign CQ9K as a Multi-Single
entry. QSLs via CS3MAD (or CT3 bureau).
E3, ERITREA. By the time you
read this, Jacky, F2CW, should be QRT from here and on his way to
the southern part of the country. He will not operate from this
area, but he will return to his operating location and operate
for 4 days between October 21-25th. It has been reported that he
has made about 16000 QSOs so far. Jacky will leave next week and
head to Djibouti. Look for him to possibly operate as J28AG for 3
days before heading to Nairobi, Kenya.
EL, LIBERIA. The "DX News
Letter" reports that EI5GIY is here on a work assignment but
wants to become active as EL2VO. Look for him to possibly be
active until October 29th. QSL via EI5GIY.
FR/G, GLORIOSO ISLAND. Jacques,
FR5ZU, who is only active on SSB, will remain active as FR5ZU/G
until October 30th. He was heard this past weekend on 14256 kHz
around 0245z and on 28480 kHz bewteen 1245 and 1300z. QSL via
VE2NW.
FT5X, KERGUELEN ISLAND. The
"DX News Sheet" reports that Helios, FT5XN, will once
again be active in January. QSL via F6PEN.
HB0, LIECHTENSTEIN. A Hungarian
group consisting of HA0HW/Laci, HA4XG/ Geza, HA6NL/Laci,
HA6PQ/Tibor, HA6PX/Csaba and HA6ZV/Tibor will be active during
this year's HA-QRP Contest (sponsored by Radiotechnika the
journal of Electronika), starting 0000z, November 1st, and until
0700z, November 7th. During their activity they will be on 3511
kHz, +/-QRM, 24 hours a day with the callsign of HB0/HA5RT/p (As
a QRP station, which means that power input is 10 watts or less).
They will operate from Triesenberg at 1400 meters ASL. The
operators will use HB0/callsign/p on other bands, mainly on CW
and RTTY with TEN-TEC OMNI V, FT-840, GPs and dipoles. Their
suggested frequencies are:
QSL cards for confirmation with HB0/HA5RT/p QSOs should go to
HA6NL and for the others should go via their home callsigns.
HI8, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC. The
German team of DL1JDK, DL3ALI, DL4JAN, DL4JS and DK8YY will be
active as homecall/HI8 from October 21st to November 1st. Their
activity will be on all bands CW/SSB. Also look for DK8YY/HI8 to
be an entry in the CQWW SSB Contest. QSL via DL4JAN.
INDIAN OCEAN DXPEDITION UPDATE.
Charlie, W0YG, reports to OPDX that the callsigns have now been
issued for their intended Indian Ocean operation next February.
They are VK9XX for Christmas Island and VK9YY for Cocos-Keeling.
Operations as VK9XX will be from February 6-13th (1999) and from
VK9YY from February 13-20th (1999). W8UVZ, K9FD and W0YG will
operate, concentrating on 80/160m, the WARC bands, RTTY and some
6m activity if there is an opening.
J3, GRENADA (Update and
Reminder!). Look for J3A to be a Multi-Multi entry in the CQWW
SSB Contest. The group is planning six complete stations
operating from the Grenada Emergency Operating Center. About
one-half of the group will arrive on October 20th and the balance
the following day. Expect non contest operating to begin late
October 21st. Several members will remain a few days after the
contest while most of the operators will return home on October
28th. Participating amateurs are: WA8LOW, W8KKF, NH7C, HN7CC,
N0AT, N0KK, W5WW, K5PN, VE3RZ, IK3VIA, DL6LAU, ES7RE, IK6CAC,
N6HR and KP2A. Operators' Grenada calls are expected to be
J3/homecall, although previously assigned callsigns might be
reissued (W8KKF as J37K, WA8LOW as J37L, KP2A as J37A and N0AT as
J38AT). Activity will be on all bands, but there are plans for
six meters and the WARC bands. Also, a RTTY station will be
available. QSLs for J3A should go to WA8LOW. QSL individual
callsigns to home call or as announced. Do not, repeat not, send
cards to the J3 bureau. Please do not combine mailing of J3A
cards (expect J37L,WA8LOW) with cards for the individual
oparators. It has also been announced that K2KQ will lead another
group in November to activate J3A in the CQWW CW Contest. WA8LOW
will also handle the QSLs for this event.
QRP ACTIVITY. James, NN5O,
reports to OPDX that between October 26th and November 8th, he
will be operating QRP (using a MFJ-9420, 9 watts) on 20 meters
SSB/CW. Look for him to be on 14040+, 14160+ and somewhere above
14300 kHz for Generals from IT/, HB9/ and DL/ from
hotels/B&Bs and occasionally from his rental car. James
states, "Although this is not a rare DX, it should be a
pretty good test for all concerned as to what you can and cannot
do with a small, light setup while on vacation in Europe with a
little planning."
QSL INFO AND NEWS.....
5R8GC from the Malagasy Republic was Baldur, DJ6SI. His
operation ended on October 16th. QSL via his home
callsign.
P40N during the upcoming 1998 CQWW SSB Contest is via
WJ5DX direct.
LOG Search Server for the August EU-155 operation by the

CW4CC was the special callsign for the Ciudad De La Costa
Anniversary of the largest demography increment in the

SPECIAL PREFIXES. To commemorate
the 75th anniversary of the first two-way trans-Atlantic exchange
between Amateur Radio Operators", Industry Canada (Canada's
FCC) has authorized the use of the following special callsign
prefixes from December 1st to December 31st (1998) (normal
prefix/special prefix): VE1 to CG1, VE2/CG2, VA2/CF2, VE3/CG3,
VA3/CF3, VE4/CG4, VE5/CG5, VE6/CG6, VE7/CG7, VE8/CG8, VE9/CG9,
VO1/CJ1, VO2/CJ2, VY1/CK1 and VY2/CK2. "Help take note of a
very special event in the history of International Amateur Radio,
and work one of these prefixes... 73" de Eddy VE3CUI
T32, EASTERN KIRIBATI.
Karl/DL1VU and Gerhard/DJ5IW will be active as T32VU and T32IW
respectively starting November 3rd. Karl will be handling the CW
action while Gerhard does the SSB part.
VP2E, ANGUILLA. Joe, W1EK, is
attempting to operate from the island of Anguilla during the CQWW
DX PHONE Contest October 24 and 25th. He has not been assigned a
callsign yet. Joe's station will consist ICOM 735, dipoles and
maybe a vertical antenna, and possibly an amplifier. The hotel
has their own electric generator for public power failures, but
Joe is attempting to ship a small 22 LBS generator in case ALL
FAILS during the contest. Joe hopes to be active on the air by
October 22nd, for a few contacts before the contest. He departs
on October 26th, and will make as many contacts after the contest
as human energy and coffees allows. You can QSL via W1EK any

UA0, ASIATIC RUSSIA. Yuri,
UA0SJ, reports to OPDX that he is now active RTTY and is trying
PACTOR. He is also sometimes on SSTV. If interested in a contact,

and the upcoming CQWW SSB DX Contest are to be sent direct ONLY

WP3, PUERTO RICO. Jimmy, KP2BH,
reports to OPDX that with a last minute setup due to hurricane
Georges, the WP3A team will be active in the CQWW SSB Contest.
The WP3A team consists of: WP3A/Jaime, WP4NHM/Rafael and
KP2BH/Jimmy.
ZC4, UK BASE ON CYPRUS. An
operator name David, signing ZC4DG, has been active over the last
few weeks on SSB. He was heard this past week on 18150 kHz
between 1400 and 1430z. There has been another report stating he
has also been on 20, 12 and 10 meters (28455 kHz just be 1200z,
The Daily DX). His length of stay is not known. QSL via G0OAB.
