NEW ENTITIES ADDED TO THE DXCC LIST.
If you are not a subscriber to the OPDX's InterNet Mailing List,
you missed the announcement this past week that the ARRL Awards
Committee has accepted a recommendation of the ARRL DX Advisory
Committee to add the Marquesas Islands and the Austral Islands to
the DXCC List. The additions will be effective with contacts made
beginning 23:59 UTC on 31 March, 1998 and after. The DXCC Desk
will accept QSL cards for both the Marquesas and the Austral
Islands beginning October 1, 1998. QSL cards received before that
time will be returned without action.

will follow up with more details later. As some folks know, Ken
got married earlier this year to Irina, a YL from Moscow.
SPECIAL EVENT STATION. The
"DX News Sheet" reports to look for GB100AR next
weekend, September 19th, to celebrate 100 years of amateur radio
and the first two-way trans-oceanic amateur radio contact in 1923
between 8AD in France and 1XAM and 1MO in the USA.
SPECIAL EVENT STATION (FAR EAST OF
RUSSIA). Special event station UE0LLL will be active on
the air now until October 8th, in celebration of the 70th
anniversary of the first Russian Far East hamradio station,
"AS3KZ" (which began on October 5, 1928). The station
will also commemorate its 1st operator Vlad Mekhailoff, UA0LL,
(1911 - 1988), the radiopioneer. The station is located in the
port-city of Vladivostok (CQ zone 19). Activity will be on all HF
bands, CW/SSB. QSL via bureau or RW0MM, CBA.
SV/A, MOUNT ATHOS. Thanks to
Dominic, DL5EBE, a rare treat has taken place over the last week
and will possibly last until September 20th. Dominic is currently
visiting Monk Apollo, SV2ASP/A, and is installing some new
equipment which includes an antenna for 160 meters and new
antennas for 80/40 meters. While there, Dominic has been active
on "CW" as SV2ASP/A which is very rare from here. Also,
look for some RTTY activity while Dominic is there. By the way,
Apollo's station is ONLY 100 watts. QSL via Monk Apollo,
Dochiariou Monastery, GR-63087 Mount Athos, Greece - Europe.
V6, MICRONESIA. "The 59(9)
DXReport" states to look for JH1BLP, JP1WDN and 7L1PBB to be
active September 14-21st as V63LP, V63CV and V63DI. Their
activity will be on 160-6 meters, CW and SSB. QSL via respective
homecall.
VP8, FALKLAND ISLANDS. Carl,
G4VFU, who was active from here earlier this year is currently
back in the U.K. for a well deserved break. Carl will once again
be on the air from here (activity on 80/160 meters), beginning
September 20th to 23rd, as VP8CJZ. Carl states that there was
some confusion last time on where he was operating from when he
uses the /mm (maritime mobile). When Carl is operating as
VP8/G4VFU/mm, he is operating from the vessel. When Carl is
operating as VP8CJZ, his new callsign, he is operating from the
Falklands "on shore and ground". Carl is now on the
InterNet, and he will answer any of your questions or verify the
log at: CTFW18@hotmail.com
XX9, MACAO. Jon/WB8YJF and
Leo/K8PYD will be leaving September 20th to be active from here
and then return on October 1st. They plan to be active in the
upcoming CQWW RTTY Contest and hope to use the callsign XX9YD, if
they can get Leo's old callsign back, or else they will try to
get XX9TJF or XX9TRY. They also planned to be active before and
after the contest. Jon states that he will be taking his TS-830S
and AL-811 amp. They will use a 3 element beam on 10/15/20
meters, a vertical for 80/40 meters and dipoles for the WARC
bands. They will try to work some 30/17/12 meters RTTY. There may
also be some VR2 activity before and after the contest.
ZD9, TRISTAN DA CUNHA AND GOUGH ISLAND. A
station signing ZD9/ZS1B was up and active on 20 and 10 meters
this past week, but has now gone QRT. The operator named Bud who
came with the supply ship from South Africa, states that he would
be moving to Gough Island (rare IOTA AF-030) during this past
weekend. However, while preparing this bulletin it seems this
operation did not take place due to heavy winds gusting to 60
knots. Because of the high winds, the helicopter could not land
on the island. Access to Gough Island is via a helicopter due to
the steep cliffs. It was mentioned by Bid that if landing is
unsuccessful, the ship will return in two weeks for a 3-5 day
stay on the island. Hopefully, the weather will co-operate.
