3D2, FIJI ISLANDS. Shozo,
7N2PYF, will be active from here as 3D2PY between August 7-9th.
Activity will be mainly on 20, 17 and 15 meters SSB. Operating
frequencies will be around normal DX windows or IOTA window. He
will use a TS-50 with a 100 watts into a wire antenna. He
mentions, "Depending on the condition, I will try another
bands" on SSB and CW. QSL via home call 7N2PYF (1997 and
1998 callbook address only or via the Bureau).
3D2DX ROTUMA DXPEDITION
(Update). Roberto, EA4DX, reports that the 3D2DX operation is on
schedule. 3D2DX will begin August 29th from the village of Fapufa
on Rotuma (OC-060). He will be there for three weeks. After
Rotuma, he willl sign 3D2DX/P from Fiji (OC-016) for 4 days more.
He is leaving Madrid on the 24th, and after a short stop at
Phoenix, AZ, where he will meet with members of the CADXA
(8Q7AA-XZ1N guys among other ops) he will then head to Rotuma.
The operation will be on 160-10 meters (WARCs included) SSB/RTTY
only and on the usual DX frequencies. QSL via EA4CP: Jose Dmaz,

7X, ALGERIA. By the time you
read this Mark, ON4WW (ex-9X4WW), will be here again and hopes to
be active soon. He expects to be issued the license/callsign
7X0WW. Activity will be CW on all bands. QSL via ON5NT. ADDED
NOTE: While here, he will try to obtain a Mauritania (5T)
license.
9M0, SPRATLY ISLANDS. The
"DX News Sheet" reports that Uwe, DJ9HX, will be active
from here August 11-19th. Activity will be on 40-10 meters with
an emphasis on 12 and 10 meters. QSL via home call (he prefers
the bureau).
9M6, EAST MALAYSIA. Before and
after his Spratly Island activity, Uwe, DJ9HX, will be active
from two IOTAs. Look for him to be on Sabah (OC-088) August
6-10th and August 26-29th. Then from August 20-25th, look for him
to be on Sipadan (OC-133). Activty and QSL info is the same as
his 9M0 operation (above).
AH4/WH4, MIDWAY ISLAND. Ron,
WA6FGV, and Frans, K6SHJ, will be active from here now until
August 6th. Activity will be on 40-10 meters CW and SSB. They
will be signing AH4/WA6FGV and WH4/K6SHJ, respectively. QSL via
home call.
AND NOW FOR SOMETHING DIFFERENT!
(Watch-a-Contest live on Internet). Ben, DL6FBL, has informed
OPDX of a unique and different way to watch a contest. His group
of contesters will be using a "WebCamera" in the shack!
You will be able to see DJ9MH/Hajo, DL1MFL/Markus, DL2CC/Frank,
DL2ZAV/Udo, DL4NAC/Martin, DL6FBL/Ben) and some other young
SWLs/computer kids from DL6FBL's QTH during Worked All Europe DX
Contest CW (WAE). The show begins August 8th (0000 UTC) and ends
August 9th (2400 UTC). The contest callsign will be DA0FF. Ben
suggests the following:
Find us on the air. Try +/- 3507, 7007, 7033, 14007,
14033, 21007, 21033, 28007, 28033 kHz.
For live video, choose "Server push" or
"Java image".
Watch us for a while...
If you are not in Europe - call in and work us. (Sorry,
no EU-to-EU contacts allowed)
If you are online, sign "WEB" after your report
(like '599 001 WEB').
The crew will do funny things you can watch on the web.

FP, ST. PIERRE & MIQUELON.
Look for the Praire DX Group to be active from here August 26th
to September 1st as FP/N9ND. Activity will be CW/SSB and RTTY
with operations on 80-10 meters and possibly 6 meters. QSL via
N9ND.
HL0, YOUNG-HEUNG ISLAND (South
Korean IOTA). The Korea University Amatuer Radio Club (K.U.A.R.C
- HL0T) has announced a five day IOTA DXpedition to Young-Heung
Island from August 6-10th. KUARC was founded in 1976 and now has
about 80 members. About twenty members will activate IOTA AS-105
using the callsign HL0T. This is the 7th DXpedition the group has
put together since 1991. Young-Heung Island is small island that
is located west about 80km from Seoul City, the capital city of
South Korea (ROK). This island is famous for blue sea and
beatutiful beaches and many travellers have visited this island
for summer vacation. Activity will be on the following (REPORTED)
suggested frequencies: 40m (7090-7095 MHz SSB), 20m (14015-14030
MHz SSB), 15m (21020-21030 MHz SSB) and 2m (145.000 MHz). QSLs
can be sent to the KARL bureau or directly to the address: 1,
5-Ka, Anam-Dong, Sungbuk-Ku, Korea University Amatuer Radio Club,
Seoul, 136-701, South Korea.
MEDITERRANEAN IOTA DXPEDTION.
Alvaro, EA3BUF, reports that he will be activating some French
IOTA's during the month of August. Look for him to sign
F/EA2BUF/p from Provence-Cote d'Azur Region Group (EU-95), Hyeres
Islands (EU-70) and Lerins Islands (EU-58). QSL via F8REF
(Bureau) or EA2BUF (Direct).
NEW IOTA TO BE ACTIVATED! Michael,
BY5QN, reports that he and others will be going Pingtan (Haitan)
Island (no ref. number yet), which is located to the Southeast of
China's mainland near Fujian Province. This will be the first
time amateur radio transmission will be used from this island.
The callsign will be BI5P. Dates were not mentioned, but stay
tuned for updates.
OPDX INTERNET SUBSCRIBERS will

called "CY9AA - Summer 1997" by Dennis Motschenbacher.

QSL INFO AND NEWS......
QSL ROUTE CHANGE. Active contester Andy Melanyin, UA3DPX,
frequently uses AC6WE for his overseas operations. His
most frequent operations have been 5B4/AC6WE and
IG9/AC6WE. Please send all QSLs to Andy direct at Box 9,
141400 Himki 7, Russia. Andy is currently unable to
retrieve cards sent to the AC6WE address in Oregon or the
W6 bureau.
1A0KM LOG SEARCH WEB PAGE. Sante, IK0HBN, reports that
his Web page has the logs for the 1994, 1995 and 1996
operations of 1A0KM. His Web page also has the 1998's
operation which is continuously being updated. Check it

XV7SW QSLS. As reported earlier, Rolf, SM5MX, has now
returned to his native Sweden after wrapping up his
operation as XV7SW. Upon his return, about 500 QSLs were
awaiting him with requests for direct replies. Rolf
reports to OPDX that "All have now been
expedited". Rolf also explains that many did not
understand that XV7SW and SM5MX are the very same person,
hence direct cards to Rolf's SM address could not be
handled until his return recently.
ED2IZA QSL Route. Rafa, EB2DJB, reports that ED2IZA,
which was active from July 24-29th from Izaro Island
(North Spain), has the QSL Manager of EA2URV. Cards can
be sent via the bureau or direct to: URV-ABRA, P.O.Box
323, E-48080 BILBAO, SPAIN. For more info, send an E-mail
to: urv@kender.es -- If possible, the logs will be
available on a Web page, in September.
EW5O QSLS. This is a special callsign being used during
contests in 1998 by the Gomel Radio Club (EW8WA). QSL
via: P.O.Box 105, Gomel 246050, Belarus.
Steve, W6MD, reports that he is NOT the QSL Manager for
YB2PBX. Tony's QSLs can ONLY be sent direct. However,
Steve is the QSL manager for the following: YB2BRW,
YB1XUR (new as of 7/20/98, but has logs for all QSOs) and
YC9WZJ (also, new as of 7/20/98). All can be sent DIRECT
via CBA ONLY.
Steve, W6MD, is also QSL Manager for T93Y, T93Y/5B4 and
T94EU. Please send DIRECT (preferred) or bureau (only
shipped out once a year). He mentions that the T93Y/5B4
cards are not ready; please be patient. It will be
another month or so, then direct cards will be answered
first.
BI4Q QSLS. Deal, BA4TB, reports that the first 2000 cards
for BI4Q (AS-135) are printed in full color. QSLs are now
beginning to go out as of July 26th. Any questions, send

QSLS for 8P9IF (IOTA contest). Bob/G3PJT and Derek/G3KHZ,
who operated 8P9IF during the IOTA contest last weekend,
requests QSLs should be sent directed to Bob, G3PJT.
Derek states, "Without thinking, I said to several
station to QSL to me (G3KHZ)!"
NOT THE QSL MANAGER. Paul, F8PX, reports that he is NOT
6W1RE's QSL Manager. Paul has received many QSL for
6W1RE. The correct manager is 6W1QV. F8PX had returned
all QSLs received to the right QSL Manager, 6W1QV, with
all green stamps and IRC.
S0, WESTERN SAHARA. The "DX
News Sheet" reports that Mark, ON4WW, hopes to return here
again sometime after August 3rd, as S07WW, when he goes back to
7X. QSL via ON5NT.
SPECIAL EVENT. Special event
stations EU200A, EV200M and EW200M will be active from now until
December 31st. The station will be on the air to celebrate the
200th anniversary/birthday of Adam Mitskewich. QSL Managers are
as follows:
TT, CHAD. Jim, WA4KKY, is
reportedly back in Chad. If he becomes active again look for
TT8JWM. This could be the last time you hear him. He is scheduled
to leave August 7th or 8th. Activity will be SSB and RTTY with
operations on mostly 20, 17 and 15 meters. QSL via N4RXL.
USI Alert. Hank, K2HJB, reports
that he will be active from Montauk Point, Long Island, NY
(NA-026) and Block Island, RI (NA-031) during August 17, 18, 19
and 20th. He will be around 14260 kHz (20 meters only). QSL via
K2HJB or KB2PFP.
YL DXPEDITION/GATHERING. A group
of YLs from 14 different countries will be active as JW0YL from
the Svalbard Polar YL's 1998 gathering August 20-24th. They will
be active on all bands.
