ECUADOR DXPEDITION. Rick, NE8Z,
will once again be returning to Ecuador for a 3 week visit from
July 5-26th. He will be traveling to different areas in Ecudor
using the following callsigns:
HC1MD - QTH: Amaguana
HC1MD/HC4 - QTH: Atacames/Pacific beach area
HC1MD/HC4 - QTH: IOTA SA056, "La Isla" in the
Esmeraldas Province Group
He will be using a Kenwood TS-50/AT-50, Heath SB-200 AMP,
Cushcraft R-7 Vertical and AEA PK-232MBX for RTTY. His activity
and operations will be mostly on the WARC bands CW and 20 meters
RTTY. From "La Isla", IOTA SA-056, he will operate as
HC1MD/HC4 for 8 hours on either July 22, 23 or 24th from
1500-2300z only on 21260 or 14260 kHz SSB. John, WD8MGQ, will
have full information as to which day he will activate SA-056. He
can be reached daily on 14260 kHz or via E-mail at: wd8mgq@tir.com The IOTA trip
will be planned according to the weather and malaria conditions
in the area. All of Rick's CW/RTTY operating as HC1MD/HC4 will be
from Atacames on the mainland between July 19-25. Thanks to Bill,
W8HVX, who has helped Rick set up for his first ever RTTY
transmissions from Ecuador. It is suggested to watch 20 meters
mainly for RTTY. Bill will have regular contact with Rick and can
be reached via E-mail at: w8hvx@ismi.net
-- All QSLs should go via: K8LJG, John Kroll, 3528 Craig Drive,
Flint, MI 48506 USA (John E-mail address is: k8ljg@tir.com). A short story and
photographs will be posted after the trip on the new Web page for
the Southeast Michigan DX Association (SEMDXA) at: http://www.semdxa.org/
IOTA NEWS....
AF-010. Elmo, EA5BYP/3C1BC, and Vic/EA5YN/3C1PN, will be
on Bioko Island from June 30th to July 7th using the
callsign 3C5DX. They plan to be active to 80-10 meters
CW/SSB. The QSL via EA5BYP. ADDED NOTE: The new color QSL
for 3C1GS is back from the printer. All the cards
received will be answered once Elmo returns back from
Malabo.
EU-032. Phil, F5PHW, will be on holiday from Re Island
and will be active as much as possible during all of
August. Re Island also has a reference number of DIFM
AT-022 (French Islands Awards). He reports that he will
be active almost on CW (90 per cent) and sometimes on SSB
or RTTY. If asked, he will QSY to SSB or RTTY when
possible at any moment. He states EU-032 is not very
rare, but has made around 5000 QSOs since 1991. Activity
will be 80-10 meters using the callsign F5PHW/P. Phil may
also be active in the IOTA Contest (if his boss lets
him!) as a Mono Op 12 or 24 hour CW entry. QSL via F5PHW,
bureau or direct to the address: Berger Phil, 19 Rue de
L'Embellie, 56100 Lorient, France (Only to this address.
Address in CBA not available).
EU-039. The Belgian DX Pedition Committee will head to
this rarely activated French Island called Chausey
Islands to take part in the next IOTA Contest on July
25-26th. The Chausey Islands also has a reference number
DIFM MA-004. The Belgian team will be composed of
ON1KSZ/Stef, ON1MCT/Phil, ON4LAM/Mike, ON4LCW/Maxime,
ON5PV/Phil, ON5OO/Jack, ON6QR/Fred, ON7LX/Carine,
ON7PC/Pierre, ON7RN/Eric, ON7TK/Claude. They will be
using the callsign TM5T. Because of the special
regulation of this Island and the prohibition of any tent
or camping, they had to receive permission to use an
official building and the use of poles and beams. Two
stations will be set up, one running and one multiplier
station both connected to beams, verticals and dipoles
during the 24 hours of the contest. They will be
operating both CW and SSB on the 5 bands during the
contest. The QSL Manager is ON4GO/Mike. Before and after
the contest, listen near the IOTA frequencies and on the
WARC bands. Also, look for F/ON4LCW during July. He will
activate a lot of little islands from the Chausey
archipelago counting for the French islands award DIFM.
For more information, contact Fred, ON6QR, via E-mail at:
on6qr@ping.be Or check

is the Soroyane Group).
NOT ZS8, PRINCE EDWARD & MARION
ISLANDS! Ed, ZS6Y, informs OPDX a lot of individuals are
getting the impression that ZS80NRM is operating from ZS8-land.
He is NOT. Ed is operating from the Republic of South Africa.
OOOPPPSS! Last week we mentioned
Mark as ON5WW, this was wrong. Mark, who was active as S07WW this
week is ON4WW, not ON5WW.
P4, ARUBA. The Aruba IARU Member
HQ Station (SA, ITU Zone 11, IOTA SA-036), will be active during
the 1998 IARU HF Contest weekend July 11-12th. The callsign P43R
will be active on all bands SSB/CW, and a special QSL card will

stamp to send mail to the boundary countries, 1.25 U.S.
green stamps to other American destinations and 1.50 U.S.

his activity.
ZL8, KERMADEC ISLANDS. Bob,
ZL1RS, reported earlier in the week that "Everything is
going to plan, and later this week I am departing for Raoul
Island (Kermadec group)." By the time you read this, Bob
should be operating between his work commitments from Raoul until
July 15th. He states, "I'll TRY to get on as much as I can
... especially nearer the end of the trip when my work will be
finished." Watch out for ZL8RS mainly on SSB, with a little
(slow) CW on 160 and 30 meters. Lee, ZL2AL, has kindly loaned Bob
a laptop computer so there will be some RTTY. Also, Bob finished
building a compact 8877 amplifier to take along. He states,
"Please note that the generator power supply is SUPPOSED to
be off from 1100z to 1900z. There is nothing I can do about that.
Any operation between these hours will be battery powered and
"QRP". Bob provides the following POSSIBLE operating
frequencies and times (all subject to change due to his work
schedule):
160 meters - CW on 1828 (RX up 2 khz and higher for JA).
Listen for his CQ at 0505z (ZL8 sunset) and 1845z (ZL8
sunrise at 1850z) for 10 minutes. There will be an
announcement of moves to 160m from the higher bands to
call CQ for 5 to 10 minutes periodically between 0700z
and 1100z.
80-10 meters - SSB on or near the usual DX frequencies,
around 0700z to 1100z initially, other times as work
allows, particularly at the end of the trip and on any
"days off" that he manages to have.
10-6 meters - 29495 and 50110 kHz. He will leave the
radio running in the background WHEN he is working inside
during the day. A CW CQ beacon on 50110 kHz is likely,
break in on SSB or CW.
