JUST A REMINDER THAT NODXA
MEMBERS WILL ACTIVATE THE MARQUESAS ISLANDS ON RTTY. Northern
Ohio DX Association members Bill/W8JGU and John/K8YSE will
operate Nuku Hiva (OC-027, Marquesas Islands) from June 14-18th.
Their main focus will be on RTTY. Look for John and Bill to sign
FO0PAP and FO0MAC, respectively. Again, this island may count for
BRAND NEW RTTY entities once voted and approved by the DXAC.
Activity will be on 40, 30, 20, 17, 15, 12 and 10 meters on the
usual frequencies. All QSL requests go to K8OU. ADDED NOTE. Since
John is the caretaker of the OPDX Web page the site will not be
updated until his return.
9N, NEPAL (Update). Charles,
K4VUD, reports that beginning July 10th, he will be operating
9N1UD and will be looking especially for stateside contacts. He
will stay in the Kathmandu area until about December 5th. He
suggests looking for him during Nepal's sunrise and sunset times
daily (he can not predict which days). He will first try 14195,
then 14023 kHz; and then 21295 and 21023 kHz. He has a daily sked
with Southeast Asians on 14215 at 0100z, via either his 9N
callsign or 9N1AA, or if they get it, 9N1MM. He plans to try the
lower bands this time (also 10 and 6 meters). Charles intends to
E-mail the DX-Reflector's Mail List on any specific skeds when
and if he can make things specific.
AFRICAN ACTIVITY. Charlie, W0YG,
will once again head to Africa in July and August. He currently
holds V5/ZS6YG, A22/W0YG and Z21/W0YG licenses. Operations will
be limited to CW and possibly RTTY only. Most operating will be
done 40-10 meters with specific attention to the WARC bands. He
will be advising OPDX of the exact dates when they are firm. QSL
all contacts via W0YG. DO NOT send cards via the ZS bureau. They
will not be answered.
BI4, PING ISLAND, PRC (Update).
The Jiangsu DX Club (JSDXC) plans to be active as BI4Q from Ping
Island (new IOTA) between June 19-21st. The team will consist of
Jin/BA4TA, Deal/BA4TB, David/BD4RF, Ken/BD4RD and possibly

DAYTON 98 PHOTO GALLERY IS NOW
UP AND RUNNING! Tom, K8CW, reports to OPDX that there are 105 new
pictures this year on his home page. Most of them were taken at
the Crowne Plaza Hotel (where a lot of famous DXers meet). Some
were taken at Hara Arena. Also, Tom mentions that he has added a
new "Buy, Sale, Trade" page (Hamfest Gallery) were you
can post your ham equipment in 15 different categories.
"This is a free service. Feel free to use it as often as you
like," states Tom. The "K8CX Ham Gallery" can be
found at: http://paradox2010.com/ham/
ET3, ETHIOPIA. Steve/G3VMW,
Alan/G3XAQ and Andy/G4ZVJ, will be operational from Addis Ababa,
as ET3AA, between September 18th and 27th. Activity from ET3AA,
the club station of the Ethiopian Amateur Radio Society, will be
on all bands from 160-10m but with emphasis on the LF and the
WARC bands. The operation will be mainly CW with some SSB and
RTTY if there is sufficient demand. Operating frequencies will be
as follows: 1829, 3508, 7008, 10108, 14026, 18076, 21026, 24896
and 28026 kHz. Always split frequency, listening up between 1 kHz
and 5 kHz. QSLs via Steve Wilson G3VMW, 3 Crag Gardens, Bramham,

ET3AA DXpedition are available on G3VMW's Web page at: http://www.bramham.demon.co.uk
There will be an on-line log search utility immediately after the
operation. During the visit to Addis Ababa, it is hoped to obtain
personal callsigns from the Ethiopian government in readiness for
a sustained two-week DXpedition during 1999.

Groups there. Matthias will operate mainly on CW, and Ron will
conduct the SSB operations. They will operate under the CEPT
Rules as LA/, SM/ and OH/homecall. The following schedule is
planned:

July 18-19 - EU-062
July 21-22 - EU-079, Hareidlandet
This schedule is subjected to some changes depending on
weather, how-to-reach some islands and other activities. Their
first priority is to give as many OMs a new IOTA-Group. QSLs are
100% via bureau. For direct QSLs: DK4WD via callbook address and
DK4UN via Ronny Triemer, P.O.Box 47, D-09023 Chemnitz, Germany.

KH6BZF PROPAGATION REPORTS. OPDX
InterNet Subscribers will receive Part 2 of Lee's forecast
(Band-by-Band Propagation Expectations) for the month of June as
an additional bulletin.
QSL INFO AND NEWS.....
Dwaine, K8ME (ex-WA8MEM), would like to notify the DX
community that he is NO longer the QSL Manager for OD5ZZ
or OD5RAK. QSLs that arrive will be returned. Dwaine
states he has NOT heard from Walid or his group in 4
years.
H75A LOGS. Chris, N1HRW, just wanted to let OPDX know
that the logs from the H75A IOTA NA-209 DXpedition has
now been placed online for searching. The log is on the
Islands on the Web website at: http://islandchaser.com
in the "Logs Online" section of the site.
Log search for YS1X (OH-activity and VP8CTR [OP Roman
EM1KA]) is now available on the Web. Check out the URL
address: http://www.qsl.net/gdxf/
ED1SCR was on the air to celebrate the 125th aniversary
of the Spanish Red Cross in Salamanca, Spain. QSL info:
EA1EAU (OK via bureau).
The Barry Amateur Radio Society activated GC4BRS/MM
during last weekend from on board the "PS
Waverley" cruising in the Bristol Channel off the
coast of Wales GW. This ship is the last ocean going
Paddleship in the world. QSL Manager is GW0ANA (direct or
via Bureau).
9M0C QSLs Update. Phil, G3SWH, reports that, to date, he
has received 5735 items of mail and is dealing with them
strictly in their order of arrival. So far, he has opened
4115 of them and is working on mail which arrived on
April 6th, i.e exactly two months ago. There has also
been 176 E-mail requests for cards to be sent via the
bureau, but so far no cards have been received via the
bureau (too early at this stage). There has been 9037
QSOs confirmed, along with dealing with dozens of queries
of various sorts, all of which are time consuming. It
should also be noted that many replies to Australia, New
Zealand and the Far East have been sent by surface mail
due to insufficient return postage (while an IRC covers
basic rate postage to all destinations, from the UK this
is only for items up to 10g. The double-side card, along
with inserts which we are obliged to include on behalf of
various sponsors, takes the weight over this, especially
where the return envelope is heavy of itself). Please do
not send second requests at this stage, as they will
merely go into the pile for the date on which they are
received and not be dealt with any faster. They will
announce when they are up to date with direct requests.
Right now, Phil is taking a well-deserved break in
SV-land but will take up the QSL task again shortly. (via
G3XTT)
Alan, VK4AAR, is getting requests for VK9WM and VK9WY
cards. He is NOT the QSL Manager for those stations.
Perhaps people are thinking that Alan has taken over for
VK4FW...this IS NOT TRUE. Only VK8AN has transferred QSL
chores over to him. Alan is the QSL Manager only for the
following list of the stations: V63PD, VI0ANARE, VK8AN,
VK8MI, YJ8AA, ZK2JJ and ZK2PJ. QSL via: Alan Roocroft,
VK4AAR, c/o Post Office, Dalveen QLD 4374, Australia
AP2AGJ CORRECTION. Tariq, AP2TJ, reports to OPDX that
Amir, AP2AGJ, has been licensed since 1991. His QTH is
Rawalpindi not Karachi. The correct QSL info is direct
to: Amir Gulistan Janjua, House No. 56, Chaklala 1,
Rawalpindi, Pakistan.
SPECIAL EVENT. By the time you
read this, two special callsigns, OZ2GBE and OZ2GBW, from
Denmark, will be active until the end of the year. This is in
celebration of the June 14th opening of the world's second
longest hanging bridge (Great Belt East Bridge). Contacts count
towards "The Great Belt Award". Operations will be on
all bands and modes.
S0, WESTERN SAHARA. The "DX
News Sheet" reports that Hamdy, S01HA, is newly licensed and
was active June 6th between 2000-2200z and June 7th between
1700-1900z on 14210 kHz.
S0, WESTERN SAHARA. Look for
Mark, ON4WW (ex-9X4WW), to be active as S07WW starting June 15th
for 4 to 6 days. His equipment is a TS-440 to wire antennas; no
linear. He is preparing an inverted L for 160 meters. His CW
frequencies will be: 160m - 1827.5 +/-; lower bands +/- 10 kHz
from the bottom edge; higher bands - 022-024 kHz and the WARC
bands wherever he finds a spot. Mark mentions this is a working
trip, so activity will be mostly (local) evening and night times.
Operations also depend on availability of electrical power. He
may have to operate from the car, which could mean SSB only. QSL
via ON5NT.
S0, WESTERN SAHARA. Ghris,
ON5NT, informed OPDX just after we released OPDX.361 that Mark's
(ON4WW, ex-9X4WW) activity as S07WW may be delayed by 5 days. His
operation may start around June 21th. Ghris (QSL Manager for
Mark) states this date could be changed again (forwards or
backwards). There is no way Mark can provide an early warning. It
is suggested to "Keep Your Ears Open and Listen". The
only thing certain is that Mark does have a license to be active
from S0-land. Activity is depending on his work schedule.
SV5, DODECANESE. Look for Vito,
I3BQC, to be active this week beginning June 16th as SV5/I3BQC
from Astypalea Island. His stay will be until July 12th. Also, he
will possibly activate other Greek islands. QSL via home
callsign.
SV5, DODECANESE (and YU-land).
Nenad, VE3EXY, reports that he will have a low profile vacation
operation from Rhodes Island (EU-001) between June 17-24th. The
operation is intended for first-timers with focus on DX stations.
He will sign SV5/VE3EXY/P and operate mainly on CW. Operations
will be on 40/30/20/17 meters and 15/12/10 meters if conditions
are good. Look for him 10 kHz off the band edge, listening 2-5 up
(+- QRM). His operating schedule: 1300-1700z, 1900-2100z and
0200-0600z. This may change to take advantage of band conditions.
Following a small vacation in Greece, Nenad may go to Yugoslavia
between June 29th and July 6th and be active as 4N7ZR from Sr.
Mitrovica. Activity again will be mainly CW, but there may be
some RTTY and SSB. Bands of activity will be 80/30/17 meters and
possibly the others if conditions are right. His operating
schedule: 1700-2100z and 0300-0600z. QSLs via VE3EXY via bureau
are OK or direct to: N.Stevanovic, PO BOX 65046, Nepean, ON, K2G
5Y3, Canada.
TF, ICELAND. If you missed Sigi,
DL7DF, and his gang from here, OPDX was advised that TF3IRA will
be operational again July 12-13th during the IARU contest as the
TF-land's HQ Station. TF3IRA has again been granted full power
license and the "BIG OLGA" antenna will be used on
lower frequencies. The Club's C3 antenna will by used for 20
meters and above QSOs. QSL via TF3GB.
USI ALERT. Greg, NS8O, will be
active from June 14-20th on Long Beach and Yaupon Beach Island.
These are in North Carolina and appear to be new ones for the
"United States Island Award". Greg also says that there
are some other islands that are close by, and he might hop over
to them. Look for him about 2000z on 20 and 40 meters. As Greg
says, "Activity will probably be during the
afternoon/evening as FISHING will be the morning priority. Hey, I
can't do anything until I have dinner caught and in the
marinating sauce!".
VP5, TURKS & CAICOS ISLANDS. Bill,
K5YG, will be active as VP5/K5YG from Providenciales (IOTA
NA-002), from June 14-20th. Bill will operate mainly CW when he
and his wife Susan are not SCUBA diving. Most operations will
begin after 2000z. He has a daily schedule with ZS6YQ on 21235 at
1500z. QSL via K5YG. All QSLs received for his 1996 and 1997 VP5
operations have been answered.
XR, CHILE. "The 59(9)
DXReport" states that the World Scout Jamboree will be held
in Hacienda Picarquia, December 27, 1998-January 8, 1999, and
Special Event Station XR3J will be active on 20 and 15 meters.
YS NET MOVED! There stations of
El Salvador, who have been operating a DX Net on 40 meters, have
moved to 20 meters due to the new winter season in their country
(they report a lot of static noise on 40 meters). They will
operate on 14165 kHz between 0200 and 0330 every day. Look for
stations YS1FEA/Federico, YS1SH/Oscar and YS1CQ/Robesrto to be
there every day. They report, at the present time, there are no
more 10 HF stations on the air in their country. QSLs for the
three go to: P.O. BOX 517, City San Salvador, El Salvador,
Central America
ZD8, ASCENSION ISLAND. Paul,
KF4OOX, is back from his stateside vacation and hopes to be back
on the air again soon as ZD8V.
