NODXA MEMBERS TO ACTIVATE AUSTRAL AND THE
MARQUESAS ISLANDS ON RTTY. Northern Ohio DX Association
members Bill/W8JGU and John/K8YSE will operate from Rurutu
(OC-050, Austral Islands) and Nuku Hiva (OC-027, Marquesas
Islands) with the main focus on RTTY. Their tentative schedule is
to operate from Rurutu Island from June 8-12th and Nuku Hiva
Island from June 14-18th. There may be some operating from Tahiti
as well. John and Bill will sign FO0PAP and FO0MAC, respectively.
These may count for BRAND NEW RTTY entities once voted and
approved by the DXAC. Look for them on RTTY on 40, 30, 20, 17,
15, 12 and 10 meters on the usual frequencies. At times there
will be 2 stations on the air with one on RTTY and the other on
CW or SSB. They will try to give attention to Europe as openings
permit. Operations on 80 and 160 meters is reported unlikely. All
QSL requests go to K8OU. ADDED NOTE. Since John is the caretaker
of the OPDX Web page the site will not be updated for the next
two weeks.
3D2, ROTUMA (and Fiji Islands).
Roberto, EA4DX, who you may remember from last September as
8Q7XX, will be active from Rotuma Island August 29th to September
19th (3 weeks), and from Fiji (Viti Levu) September 20-24th. He
will sign from Rotuma as 3D2DX and from Fiji as 3D2DX/P. Activity
will be on all bands 160-10 meters including the WARC bands on
the usual DX frequencies. Operations will be on SSB and RTTY.
Most of his activity from Fiji will be on the low bands and RTTY.
His equipment includes a Yagi for 10/12/15/17/20 meters and a
vertical for 40/80/160 meters, plus a 1 kw linear. QSL via
EA4DX's callbook address or E-mail QSLs to: 3d2dx@earthling.net. There
is a Web page for this operation, and it can be found at the URL
address: http://www.qsl.net/ea4dx/index.html
8P, BARBADOS. Dennis, K7BV, and
his wife Lieska will travel here and be active from 8P9Z's QTH
July 7-14th. A 8P callsign will not be assigned until their
arrival on the island. Dennis will operate CW extensively on all
HF bands and RS12 prior to the IARU HF Contest July 11-12th (He
is expected to enter the contest as a Single Op/All Band High
Power CW category). As is always the case when Dennis operates
from the Caribbean, he will make special effort to catch as many
Asian band openings as possible. Whenever possible, he will
respond to 9BDXCC QSY requests. QSL via K7BV CBA.
9K2HN/P OPERATION DELAYED.
Hamad, 9K2HN, reports that he had to delay his operation to Kubar
Island (AS-118) due to a conflict. His friends (not hams) who
were going to join him on this trip to the island are taking
final exams now!!
AP, PAKISTAN. The "DX News
Sheet" reports that Amir, AP2AGJ, is a newly licensed ham in
Karachi. He has been heard on 17 meters (18150 kHz) SSB. Look for
him between 1500 and 1800z. QSL direct to: Amir Gulistan Janjua,
Governor House, Peshawar, Pakistan.
BI4, PING ISLAND (New IOTA!). A
group from Jiangsu Province of China are planning to be active as
BI4Q from Ping Island either June 13-14th or June 20-21st. Ping
Island is in the Huanghai Sea, 62 miles east of the cosat. This
will be the first time anyone has activated this island, so no
IOTA number has been issued. They will on 80-6 meters (including
the WARC bands) on CW and SSB, using a 1KW AMP, A3S, R7000 and
dipoles. The team consists of Jin/BA4TA, Deal/BA4TB, David/BD4RF,
Ken/BD4RD, Chen/ BD4SE and possibly others.
CY9RF CQ WPX CONTEST OPERATION CANCELLED.
Dan, K8RF, reports that the reason no one heard CY9RF from St.
Paul during last weekend's contest is that the operation was
unfortunately cancelled due to various factors, mainly last
minute conflicts with one of operator's schedule. They did not
have enough manpower to properly mount the operation, so Dan felt
it was best to cancel rather than do a poor job. However, Dan may
help out with Mike's (VE9AA) upcoming operation this summer.
GM, SCOTLAND. Look for F5VCR and
G3OCA to be active from July 10-17th from various Scottish
islands (NH07, NH13, NH26).
IOTA NEWS.......
EU-032. Patrick, DL4VBP, reports that he will activate
EU-032 during his holiday from June 6-20th. He will
operate from two French Atlantic coast islands: "Ile
de Re" and "Ile d'Oleron" (both EU-032).
Besides operating SSB, he will also be active on CW and
RTTY.
EU-090. The Radio Club Split, 9A2A (9A1AKL) is planning
to activate Palagruza Island during IOTA contest. The
callsign will be 9A8P, same as the previous expedition.
QSL via 9A1AKL, bureau or CBA.
KH6BZF PROPAGATION REPORTS. OPDX
InterNet Subscribers will receive Part 1 of Lee's forecast for
the month of June as an additional bulletin.
MU, GUERNSEY. Tom/DL4SZ and
Arno/DL1CW will be active from here June 10-13th, signing
MU/DL4SZ/p and MU/DL1CW/p, respectively. Arno will be active on
CW only, but Tom will be active both SSB and CW.
QSL INFO AND NEWS......
Peter, ZS6PHD, reports that South Africa has rejoined the
UPU and IRCs can now be used within South Africa. The
current cost for IRCs is SAR 5-00, which is worth
slightly under 1 USD. The airmail rate for postal items
up to 10 gram is R 1-90 to anywhere in the world, so one
IRC is more than enough for ZS-land.
Steve, K9VX, reports that the turn-around time for his
EP2MKO QSLs from UA6HCW is about 4 months. He just
received his card for a late January contact, via regular
air mail.
Jose, CT1EEB, reports that the 1997 Kure Island
DXpedition (K7K) Web page is up and running. The site
contains inoformation and photos. Check out the URL
address: http://www.qsl.net/ct1eeb/index.htm
QSLs for CT98ELP, as well as CQ7ELP (used in WPX SSB
Contest), are via CT1ELP. The address is: Pedro Pedroso,
P.O.Box 116, 2806 Almada Codex, PORTUGAL
DX Log Search for Andy, 9X0A, can now be found on the
Web. Logs for his 9X/RW3AH, 9X0A, and 9U/9X0A operations
can be found at: http://www.qsl.net/n6ed/9x0a.html
Kingman Reef, Johnston and Howland Island QSL cards. Mac,
WA4FFW, reports that all QSL cards for the February-March
operations from N4DAZ/KH3 Johnston Island and for
N4BQW/KH5K, Kingman Reef have been mailed. If you sent a
QSL for one of these station's contacts along with a card
for the Howland, WA4FFW/NH1, in the same envelope, you
will have to wait until the Howland cards go out.
Gene/WJ4T, Joe/N4DAZ and Mac are beginning to process the
Howland at the present time and expect to have them
completed in the next few weeks. Harold, K4AU, reported
to Mac that he is current with all QSL cards received to
date for the Howland SSB operations K4AU/WH1. Mac also
reports that all cards for the previous operations of
Chuck, N4BQW, from Palmyra, Tern, Kure and Midway have
been caught up and have been mailed. They appreciate
everyone's patience as post DXpedition requirements have
consummed more time than expected.
SV, GREECE (Now on 6 meters).
Manos G. Darkadakis, SV1IW, R.A.A.G. General Secretary, informs
OPDX that Greece is now using the 6 meters band on a secondary
basis (primary use reserved for the Greek army), therefore the
Greek ministry does not issue licences for visitors (either
reciprocal or CEPT) for that band. Any operation from Greece,
Crete or Rhodes from amateurs other than Greek citizens
is illegal.
SV9, CRETE. Juha, OK1KAG/OH9MM,
reports to OPDX that he will be celebrating his graduation in
Crete, June 9-15th. He did not provided us with his Crete
callsign, so he may be signing /SV9. Juha did say his planned
activity will be on 40-10 meters CW/SSB/RTTY. QSL via OH3LQK
(prefer via bureau).
TF, ICELAND (Update to
OPDX.358). Sigi, DL7DF, and his crew (Tom/DL7BO and his YL,
Ben/DL7BY, Frank/DL7UFR and Wolfgang/DL2NWK) will be active from
June 15th to June 21th. They have now reported that they will be
active on 6 meters besides the other announced bands. They will
use an IC-706 and a 5 element yagi for 6 meters. QSL via DL7DF.
WWSA CONTEST HAS BEEN
CANCELLED/DISCONTINUED. Gilberto Affonso Penna, PY1AFA,
the organizer of the WW South American CW Contest and former
Chairman of the Antenna-Electronica magazine (contest sponsor),
became a Silent Key (SK) as of September, 1997. With the passing
of PY1AFA the magazine's new Board of Directors has decided to
cancel the 1998 contest. The contest was to take place June
13-14th. Some Brazilian hams are trying to make arrangements to
have the WWSA contest back next year, meanwhile the 1996 and 1997
results are avaiable on the WEB at: http://www.qsl.net/cwsp/wwsae.htm
VK9, LORD HOWE ISLAND. Nick,
VK2ICV, is currently looking for 3-4 contest operators willing to
operate from VK9LX during the CQWW CW Contest in November. The
VK8LX team will spend 10 days on the island. Nick states,
"All equipment will be on Lord Howe prior to contest - just
bring your laptop and tooth brush." If interested, contact
Nick via E-mail at: watchman@tig.com.au
-- To look at last year's operation, check the Web site: http://www.watch4you.com/vk9lx/
ZK1, SOUTH COOK ISLANDS. Ed,
K8VIR, who was signing ZK1EHH from Rarotonga Island (IOTA
OC-013), is now active from Aitutaki Island (IOTA OC-083) until
June 10th. Check 21300 and 14267 kHz between 0130 and 0800z. QSL
via K8VIR (GreenValley, AZ. address).
ZL8, KERMADEC ISLAND. Bob,
ZL1RS, will be on Raoul Island in the Kermadec Island Group
(which is 1000 KM N.E of ZL-lans), from June 28th - July 17th.
His work on the island has priority, so ham radio activity will
be sporadic. Look for ZL8RS on all bands from 160-6 meters,
mainly on SSB with some CW on 160 meters and 30 meters. There may
also be some RTTY activity if Bob can borrow a laptop. QSL via
ZL1RS only 97/98 CBA: R Sutton, 109 Wright Rd, RD2, Katikati, NEW
