QSL INFO AND NEWS.....
Alan, VK4AAR, has informed OPDX that Dan Holloway, VK8AN,
has been unable to contact his QSL manager, VK4FW, Bill
Horner. This has, no doubt, got some connection with the
announcement Bill has apparantly put out in which he
stated that he is undergoing serious personal problems.
Dan has asked Alan to help pick up the pieces in handling
all Dan's cards. Alan states he has access to all Dan's
earlier logs, and can also confirm "old"
contacts. So, if your QSL request has gotten lost, you
can re-QSL to Alan. He has the cards for VK8AN and
VK8AN/6 (Troughton Island, OC-154). Alan mentions that
there is no sponsorship involved, and he is paying all
the bills himself ...so, DIRECT QSLs only with return
postage, please to: Alan Roocroft, VK4AAR, c/o Post
Office, Dalveen QLD 4374, Australia. His E-mail address
is: almee@halenet.com.au
ADDED NOTE: Alan also mentions that some people have been
sending QSLs via the bureau to him for VI0ANARE (Victor
Italy Zero Alpha November Alpha Romeo Echo). THEY MUST
QSL FOR THIS CALL TO "VK4ARB" VIA THE
BUREAU.....** NOT VK4AAR **.
Steven, FE11DX (Fox Echo Eleven Dx), FE11DX, states he
would like to become a QSL Manager for a DX XYL/YL
station, who is very active on the LF bands. He mentions
that he has plenty of time to take care of business.
Steven can be reached at: Steven Box 4, 28111 Luce Cedex,
France. His E-mail address is: fe11dx@wanadoo.fr
C21NI INFO. Jack, VK2GJH, who was active in the Pacific
as T30JH, C21JH, V63JH,... etc., has been getting many
QSL cards (mostly from overseas) for C21NI. C21NI used to
be the callsign of the Nauraun Amateur Radio Club which
is now defunct. Jack operated from C21NI until about
November 1991, and he is happy to QSL the contacts before
that date, and also QSOs made with his own callsign C21JH
since that date. However, he is unable to QSL C21NI
contacts after November, 1991, and will return the cards
if reply postage was included. Jack is not a member of
the Bureau and all QSLs should be sent direct to: Jack D.
Haden, P.O. Box 299, Ryde, NSW, 2112, Australia.
RARE IOTA. A team of 8 operators
(CT1CJJ, CT1EEB, CT1EEN, CT1END, CT1ENQ, CT1ETZ.... the 7th and
the 8th operator will be announced at a later date) will be
active between July 24th and the 27th from Pessegueiro Island
IOTA EU-167. All licenses and permits to operate on the Island
are in hand, "INCLUDING THE VERY DIFFICULT PERMIT TO STAY
OVERNIGHT". They state that usually spending the night on
Pessegueiro is not allowed by the authorities, so, any operation
taking place during the night without this permit cannot be
credited for IOTA by the new rules of creditation. There will be
two kilowatt stations, beams and special antennas for 80/40
meters. Their main goal is giving this IOTA reference to those
areas of the world where EU-167 is a most-wanted IOTA. Therefore
the Team will concentrate on working North America, Asia and
Oceania. During the IOTA Contest, a Multi effort will be made
with the call CQ2P. The authorities stated that future visits
(daylight visits) to Pessegueiro will be restricted and only with
the presence of an official guide because of the Islands
Archeologic and Biologic presence. QSL each callsign/portable via
the home callsigns. QSL CQ2P via CT1EEN.

VM4AA, NOT A PIRATE. If you have
worked "Macka" VM4AA from Queensland, Australia, he was
Not a pirate. The holder of this unique callsign, the ONLY one
amateur callsign in Australia with an VM prefix, is a retired
Royal Australian Air Force Squadron Leader (AFC,AFM,AE), who is
now 87 years old. Macka was first licensed in 1932 as VK3FX. The
special callsign VM4AAA was awarded to him in 1983 by the
then-Minister of Communications of Australia in recognition of
extended participation in amateur service. The callsign VM4AAA in
1997 was modified to VM4AA. Keith McCarty known by his amateur
name as "Macka" is not often on the bands, but from
time to time he can be found around 14020 kHz or near using his
