chance. Ghis, ON5NT, reports that Jose, FO5QG, is active from
Nuku Hiva Island in the Marquesas Group. He lives on the island.
Ghis states that he worked Jose on 14120 kHz at 0743z on SSB, and
it seems that he (Jose) is often around that frequency. That
portion of the band is commonly used by French speaking stations.
Also, OPDX did some searching and found that Jose has been active
this past week on 14190 kHz between 0230 and 0600z. QSL via XE1L.

days, and state landing permission has been granted. This will be
the first operation in 5 years. Check out the following WEB site
for updated details/maps at: http://home.fuse.net/k8rf/ Meanwhile, Randy,
N0TG, reports to OPDX that he has talked with the Dept. of
Interior (DOI) and the DOI is currently issuing applications only
for permits pending the results of a Science Study of the island
to be conducted in mid-July. Hopefully, this study will not
damage the chances for the K8RF's group plans to go to KP1.
Please stay tuned.
PJ8, SABA ISLAND. Don, KF4KRZ,
will be active as PJ8DM now until further notice. People looking
for him should be aware that he is a relatively new ham and with
him being at a somewhat rare DX location, this should be a new
experience for him! His main antenna right now is a dipole, and
he has some local QRN problems especially on 80 and 40 meters,
BUT he is willing to try! QSL via home call, KF4KRZ, Donald B.
McGehee, 90 Edgewater Dr. #901, Coral Gables, Florida 33133.

working on the equipment list but will be operating with Sean's

XV4, TRUONG SA (An operation
which did not take place from the Vietnamese Spratlys). Rolf,
XV7SW (SM5MX), has sent OPDX the following information:
"Some time ago, I, i.e. XV7SW, and my countryman Torsten,
XV7TH, were granted licenses to operate from the Vietnamese
Spratlys during the month of April. The callsigns we have been
given by the DGPT (the telecoms authority in Hanoi) are XV4SW and
XV4TH. Hurdle No. 1 thus cleared. Unfortunately, though, despite
official backing from my former workplace, our application for
actually visiting Truong Sa Islands was politely turned down by
the Ministry of Defence, replying, 'At the present time, the
Ministry of Defence of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam does not
have the policy to organize visits by foreigners to Dao Truong
Sa'. I will now frame my still valid XV4 license - a true
collector's item - put it on the wall in front of me and continue
working happily as XV7SW, for at least another month from Hanoi,
which isn't a bad location either for pile-up generation! QSL via
my home call SM5MX.... 73 de Rolf XV7SW (SM5MX)" Meanwhile,
look for Rolf between 1030 and 1130z on 20 meters CW!
ZD8, ASCENSION ISLAND. Paul,
ZD8V, reports that he and ZD8T are now back on the air in the
newly placed ham shack.. They are using a car battery to power
their radios with a long extension cord to power their chargers.
QSN Spots for ZD8T over the past week show activity has been on
17/15/12/10 meters between 1545 and 2000z. QSL ZD8T via AC4IV.
QSL ZD8V via KF4OOX.
