3D2 FIJI. The "DX News
Sheet" states Tada, JA1WPX, will be active April 24-28th, as
3D2WP from Mana Island (OC-121). From May 5-6th, Tada will sign
as 3D2WP/P from Fiji Island. Activity will be on CW/SSB and RTTY,
80-10 meters. QSL via home call.
AX, AUSTRALIA. "The 59(9)
DXReport" reports that World Telecommunications Day, May
17th, will be celebrated with stations signing AX(#)ITU from each
call area, but only between 0000 and 2400z. Look for AX3ITU from
VK3. QSL via VK3ER.
CY9, SAINT PAUL ISLAND.
Operators Dan/K8RF, Geoff/W0CG and Ken/WA9S have announced that
an operation will start on May 28th. They will be a
Multi-Operator Single-Transmitter entry in the CQ WPX CW Contest
May 30-31st, using the callsign CY9/K8RF during the contest.
Individual operators will sign callsign/CY9 outside the contest.
Their plans are to concentrate on 160/80/40 and WARC bands before
and after the WPX Contest. QSL via operators home callsigns.
CY9, SAINT PAUL ISLAND. Mike,
VE9AA, reports he has officially received permission to operate
from St. Paul Island during the window June 25th - July 15th. He
mentions the total time of operation will likely be only 9-10
days. The callsign will be CY9AA as in 1997. QSLs will go to
VE9AA, the group leader. Operation will be 160-6 meters SSB/CW,
with one station dedicated to full time on 6 meters (this band
will take priority). No other modes or bands are planned at this
time. Usual DX frequencies will be employed. At this time, only
Mike is on the list of operators, and he will be seeking out a
few capable CW/SSB ops. If interested, contact Mike via E-mail
at: ve9aa@hotmail.com -or-
ve9aa@nbnet.nb.ca ADDED
NOTE: OPDX InterNet Subscribers will receive an additional
bulletin containing Mike's complete press release.
FATHER MORAN MEMORIAL STATION PLANNED.
Many DXers can remember Father Moran who gave many deserving
9N1MM over the past years. In his memory and for the furthering
of ham radio in Nepal, Mr. Satish Kharel (9N1AA) and Charlie
(K4VUD/9N1UD) have begun to establish a memorial club station in
Father Moran's memory. They will be asking for his old call for
the station and their plans are to locate a space which will
allow easy access for visitor operations and training for more
native Nepal hams. Charlie reportedly is looking for advice and
support to establish the 9N1MM station with funding, radios and
antennas. If you would like to help, contact Charlie direct or
via E-mail at: harpole@pegasus.cc.ucf.edu
FO0, MARQUESAS (French
Polynesia, possible new DXCC entity). Just a quick reminder that
Bob/W6RJ and his son Bob/W6KR, who were active this past week
from Austral Island as FO0FI, will be active April 21-28th, as
FO0FR from Nuku Hiva Island (Marquesa Island group). Activity
will be on CW/SSB 160-10 meters. QSL via K6SLO.
FT5X/W/Z CONTROVERSY. Gil,
F5NOD, and others from the French LDXG, have made claims that
Rene's (FR5HR) Crozet, Kerguelen and Amsterdam operations were
not valid. Naturally this is up to the right officials to decide
and announce if his operations are valid. It "may be"
recommended to hold off sending QSLs until this is done.
H40, TEMOTU ISLAND WRAP-UP. The
H40AA team went QRT on April 12th at about 1800z. They reportedly
made about 65000 QSOs. QSL via OH2BN. OPDX InterNet Subscriber
will receive the "H40AA - Final Update" as an
additional bulletin.

9M6OO AND OTHER 9M6 QSLS. Bob, N2OO, reports that he has
caught up with the direct QSLs for 9M6OO, 9M6HIL and
KP2/N2OO. Except for recently received cards, all have
been answered which were sent direct with appropriate
return postage, etc. Bureau cards will be next but expect
the normal delays on them. 9M6AAC QSLs have been ordered
from the printer. That will take a month or two. PLEASE
NOTE: Anyone who sent their N2OO/KH9 QSL to Bob instead
of via WA4YBV need not resend. Bob will be forwarding
everything to the correct manager as soon as the cards
are printed. Same is true for N6MZ/KH9 cards sent to N6MZ
and N2WB/KH9 cards sent to N2WB and K8XP/KH9 cards, too.
Mike, Bill and Tom will also forward the cards sent to
them. But please note that the correct QSL route for all
of our calls/KH9 is via WA4YBV.
9M2YXI QSLS. Keith Kerr, GM4YXI, who was active as
9M2/GM4YXI from Pulay Besar Island (AS-097) in West
Malaysia from April 16-19th, should be QSLed direct to:
Dr.K.Kerr, East Loanhead, Auchnagatt, ELLON, Scotland.
K7K, K4M and XW30(A) QSLS. Frank, AH0W/OH2LVG, reports
that the K7K Kure and K4M Midway cards are still being
processed, and there are still a few thousand yet to go.
The expectation is that these will be finished before the
Visalia Convention. Frank also learned that the XW30 and
XW30(A) QSLs have been printed (in Germany), so these
will start flowing very soon. QSL the XW30(A) Laos
DXpedition via SM0AGD.

Island (NA-142) on April 25 from 1400-2000z. The club callsign,
W4IAX, will be used on 14260 kHz +/- QRM.
SPECIAL EVENT (RUSSIAN SUBMARINE ON THE
AIR!) A memorial S56 Guard Red banner submarine, located
at the Russian Navy base in Vladivostok (CQ zone 19), will take
to the air waves the weekend of April 25-26th, for Submarine
Memorial Radio Reactivation Day. The frequencies are (+/- QRM):
SSB - 7040, 14240 and 21240 kHz // CW - 7010, 14040 and 21040
kHz. The amateur radio callsign possibly to be used is RS56M (or
UE prefix). QSL/SWL reports via RW0MM : P.O. Box 73, Vladivostok
690090 Russia. For more details on this event and Submarine
Memorial Radio Reactivation Day, please refer to OPDX.349.
TF, ICELAND. Sigi, DL7DF, and
his crew (Tom/DL7BO, Ben/DL7BY, Frank/ DL7UFR and 2 YL's) will be
active from June 15th to June 21th. They will operate especially
on the low bands and on CW, but SSB and RTTY are also possible.
They will be running with 2 tranceivers and power amplifiers.
Their antennas are a 3 element beam for 20, 15, 10 meters, 3
element beam for 17 and 12 meters, GP for 30, 40, 80 and 160
meters and beverages. Look for them on the usual DX frequencies.
QSL via DL7DF.
TYPO ERROR REPORTED. Declan,
EI6FR, reports there was a typo error in the ZL9 press release he
sent out last week. The correct callsign of Jun Tanaka is JH4RHF
and not JH2RHF as reported.
VK9L, LORD HOWE ISLAND. Paul,
N0AH, reports to OPDX that his VK9LZ DXpedition is on sked. Force
12 has prepared a DXpedition 12/17 meter beam for him and he will
be bringing a home brew 30 meter dipole antenna. Due to equipment
problems, his Yeasu FT-900 is being replaced with an ICOM-756 and
his R-7000 is also being left at home due to weight limitations
from the trip to Sydney to Lord Howe. Instead, Paul will be
bringing a Cushcraft AP8A 10-80 1/4 wave vertical. He will only
run a 100 watts, but still plans to focus on the WARC bands. His
modes of operation will be CW and SSB, sorry, no RTTY. The Mile
High DX Association has helped him with shipping costs and Force
12 gave him a big break on the 12/17 meter beam. Icom gave Paul a
banner and Cushcraft is sending him some spare parts for the
AP8A. Paul should be on the air from April 25th-30th.
XU, CAMBODIA. Amateur radio club
of Korea Telecom will visit Cambodia from April 22-24th (about 48

operate on 20, 15, and 10 meter band CW and SSB. Please check
14210, 21210, 28420 kHz. Their callsign will be either XU3MTM or
XU7MTM. The operators will be HL2AQN, HL3APP, HL2ACI, and HL1OXR.
QSL requests must go to HL2AQN.
XUF2, CAMBODIA. Harv, XUF2B
(Yes, the callsig is correct!), has been very active past week on
RTTY on 20 and 15 meters. Check around 14085 and 21085 kHz.
Activity has been reported as early as 1245z on 20 meters
(lasting as late as 1830z). On 15 meters, activity usually starts
around 1600z. QSL via N4JR.
