Karel/OK1CF and Milan/OK1DWC members of the OK DX Foundation will
be active from here for one week starting April 4th. Using the
callsigns 3D2CB/R and 3D2WC/R, look for CW/SSB activity on 160-10

5R, MADAGASCAR. John, SM0DJZ,
QSL Manager for Ake, SM7CIP, reports that Ake is active in
Madagascar and is now using the new callsign 5R8FU. Ake can
sometimes be found on the WARC bands (24899 and 18072 kHz) or on
15 meters (21010 kHz) CW. His activity seem to be centered around
1500-1800z. John states that Ake activity is "a low profile
all band operation. He will probably stay in 5R8 for a long
time." John has just received Ake's logs for February and
March, and he has managed to work over 600 QSOs, mostly on CW and
on higher frequencies. Ake has some wire/GP antennas and an
antenna for 160 meters but only has a 100 watt station. Plans are
in the works for him to have a linear amp running along with
directional antennas. QSLs for Ake are still under the printing
stage and John will make an announcement when they are ready to
go out in the mail. So PLEASE be patient. Ake also held the
former callsigns YA1AR and T5AR. John still has the logs for
YA1AR/T5AR ("They will NEVER be closed!!!"). QSL
requests are welcome via the bureau or direct at: SM0DJZ, Jan
"John" Hallenberg, Siriusgatan 106, SE-195 55 Mersta,

MORE NEW COUNTRIES (OOOPPPSS! I
mean "ENTITIES"!). Paul, F6EXV, reports that on April
1st (1998), he filed a petition on behalf of the "Clipperton
DX Club" for the addition of two new counters to the DXCC
list, namely the "Marquesas Islands and the Austral
Islands". Pauls states the following:
"Under the new definitions of what constitutes a
'political entity', namely IARU membership, French Polynesia
is clearly a 'point 1 country'. Furthermore, any island of
the Marquesas group is situated more than 350 km way from any
other island of the parent country. Any island of the
Australs is situated more than 350 km away from any other
island of the parent country, and more than 800 km away from
any island of the Marquesas. The submission asks for addition
to the list as of June 2nd 1983, date when the CORA,
representing French Polynesia, joined the International
Amateur Radio Union (IARU)."
SIDED NOTE: The DXAC voted against the
addition on these islands before because they felt that the
French Poynesia is not considered to be a "PARENT"
country and that France is the parent country...... Stay tuned!
Also, the Marquesas Islands have a WEB site available at: http://www.geocities.com/TheTropics/4269
