3V, TUNISIA. Giovanni, I5JHW,
will once again be active from 3V8BB. His activity will be from
March 25-31st. Also joining him will be Sergio/ I5SNR,
Danio/I5OYY, Gabriele/IK5ZTW and Roberto/IK5FTQ. The group will
be active in the upcoming CQ WPX SSB Contest as a Multi/Single,
possibly as 3V5I. QSL via I5JHW.
8Q7, MALDIVES (UPDATE). Lorenzo,
IM5MDF, states he will now be active from Alimatha Island (IOTA
AS-013) as 8Q7DF, May 2-10th. His activity will be on 80-10
meters and he provided the following suggested frequencies: 3780,
7080, 14180, 21280 and 28480 kHz. His equipment will be a Kenwood
TS-50 w/AT-50 tuner using a "new Multicres Vertical
Multiband" antenna and inverted "V" dipoles. QSL

A4, OMAN. The "DX News
Sheet" reports that the Royal Omani ARS (ROARS) hopes to be
active in the last week of March, probably as A43DI from
Daymaniyat Island. There is planned activity on 6 meters with
IC-706 and 5 element yagi. Also, a 6m beacon, probably on
50100kHz, will be available. Permission has not yet been given
for general 6m use in Oman, but Tony, A45ZN, is ready to be
active when it is given. He will use a FT-690 and IC-706, 100W to
a vertical and 5 element yagi at 60ft. Tony will also run a
beacon on 50110 kHz.
A6, U.A.E. Bernie, W3UR, Editor
of The Daily DX, reports that Ali's, A61AJ, station will be very
active on all bands CW and SSB from March 21st through April 1st.
Ali will also be active full time during the CQ WPX SSB Contest.
By the way, Bernie is the QSL Manager for Ali and states a very
nice color photo QSL card is available. QSL via W3UR, Bernie
McClenny, 3025 Hobbs Road, Glenwood, MD 21738, USA. He mentions
no E-mail bureau cards.
CV8, URUGUAY. Look for Al,
CX8AT, to be active during the 1998 CQ WPX Phone Contest (March
28-29th) using the special callsign CV8D. He states for QSLing to
PLEASE send via his regular callsign CX8AT. All returns wil be
sent via the bureau.
EP, IRAN. The "DX News
Sheet" reports Hamid, EP3HR, is active, especially on 17
meters. Check 18150 kHz between 1400 and 1500z. QSL via I2MQP or
direct to Hamid Reza Rahimi, P.O. Box 71555-158, Shiraz, Iran.
JAPANESE IOTA. Seven JA
operators will be active from Awashima (IOTA AS-117) in the Sea
of Japan. Activity will be for only two dates, April 17-18th.
Operators will sign JG1SZE/0, JJ1SLI/0, JP1TBG/0, JQ1ALQ/0,
JI3DST/0, JR9MAR/0 and 7K4FGQ/0. The group will set up three
stations and operate on 40-10 meters CW/SSB. QSL via JARL Bureau
to their homecall or direct.
JW, SVALBARD. Ragnar (Rag),
OZ8RO, reports to OPDX that he has been bitten by the Arctic bug
again and will be active as JW5HE, April 3-9th. If he can get the
computer/modem operational, he will spend some time on RTTY this
time. Otherwise, he will focus on 10 and 18 MHz and possible 24
if there are openings. QSL to OZ8RO CBA.
KH0, MARIANA ISLANDS. Zorro,
JH1AJT, will be active from the island of Saipan as KG6SL.
Activity will be mainly SSB on 40-10 meters. The length of his
stay is not known. QSL via home call. Meanwhile, KH0AC was heard
on 15 meters this past weekend on 21255 kHz at 2215z and 21295
kHz at 0215z. QSL via K7ZA. Also heard on 15 meters was Larry,
KH0I, on 21280 kHz at 0145z. He was also heard on 80 meters (3793
kHz) beginning around 1300z.
NEW PREFIX. It has been reported
that Terry, VR6TY, on Pitcairn Island, has stated that the VR6
prefixes will switch to the VP6 prefix beginning May 1, 1998. The
VR prefix was apparently given over to China on or about the same
time that Hong Kong was returned (July 1, 1997).
OTHER NEW HAT TO WEAR. According
to the "ARRL Letter", the current ARRL DXCC Manager
Bill Kennamer, K5FUV, will replace Chuck Hutchinson, K8CH, as
Membership Services Manager at ARRL Headquarters effective April
20. Hutchinson is stepping down and into a part-time role for
medical reasons. The "Letter" did not mention whether
Bill would be replaced or stay on as DXCC Manager.
PACIFIC DXPEDITIONS. Members of
Yamato ARC (JA1JQY, JA1KJW, JA3MCA and JA8VE) will be active from
Tuvalu (T2) and Fiji (3D2). The group will be in Tuvalu from
April 25th to May 1st and their call signs will be issued upon
their arrival. They plan to have three 100 watt stations on
160-10 meters CW/SSB. From May 2-3rd, they will be active from
Fiji as 3D2HI (JA1KJW), 3D2KZ (JA8VE), 3D2SH (JA1JQY) and 3D2TK
(JA3MCA). QSL via their home callsigns.
PORTUGUESE DX NET. Paulo,
CT1ETE, reports that the Portuguese DX Net will be reactivated
again. The net will be held on Saturdays between 1000 and 1200z
on 21280 kHz or 28480 kHz. Net Controller will be CT1ERK.
Mike, NF4W, states he would like to become a QSL Manager
for a DX station and mentions he has plenty of time to

SPECIAL EVENT (Submarine
Memorial Radio Reactivation). On April 25th and 26th, the radio
rooms on as many as 23 memorial submarines will come alive with
ham activity. This year's lineup will include the Torsk in
Baltimore, the Cod in Cleveland and the Growler in New York City.
The suggested frequencies will be 3843, 7243, 14243, 21343 and
28343 kHz. QSL information will be available on the air. For more

S0, WESTERN SAHARA. Look for
S08R and S0RASD to be active on the air between March 24th and
April 20th. Activity will be mostly on 40, 80 and 160 meters, but
20/15/10 meters will also be used. Reports indicate that the area
shall become independent and may receive a new prefix in 1999.

S2, BANGLADESH. Mamtaz (YL),
S21J, has been quite active on 20 meters (between 14200-14216
kHz) this past weekend between 1230 and 1400z. QSL via Mamtaz
Shahid, G.P.O. Box 3512, Dhaka-1209, Bangladesh.
USI/IOTA ALERT. The group from
the USI Award informed OPDX that Dennis, AA3ID, will be on
Hatteras Island (IOTA NA-067, USI NC-005S) from March 16-28th. He
will have 80-6 meters available. They indicated that if you need
this island, try giving him a call on 14260 or 14265 kHz because
Dennis will be monitoring while doing "useful" work
down there.
VK9, NORFOLK ISLAND. "The
59(9) DXReport" states Jim, VK9NS, is now active on RTTY (No
QSNs mentioned). His activity on 160/80 meters continues. Check
around 1831 kHz between 1115 and 1145z and on 3507 kHz at 1100z.
Jim can also be found daily on 14222 kHz beginning about 0400z.

XV, VIETNAM. Torsten, XV7TH, was
heard active this past week on 28500 kHz (long path) around
1430z. He was also heard on 14195 kHz around 1500z. Meanwhile
Charlie, K4VUD, who was recently in Nepal and work Torsten from
9N land, states that XV7TH can be found on Sundays at 1000z on
21250 or 21179 khz.
YB, INDONESIA. Jorma, OH2KI,
will be active until March 30th, either as YB9BV or YB9/OH2KI.
Activity will be mainly on CW. QSL via OH2KI.
ZP0, PARAGUAY. Tom, ZP5AZL, will
be using the special callsign ZP0Z in the CQ WPX SSB PHONE
Contest. He will be in the contest as a Single Op 20 meter Hig
Power entry. QSL via W3HNK or in Paraguay via ZP5MAL.
1998 Visalia DX Convention. The
Southern California DX Club is pleased to announce the programs
for the upcoming DX convention. The dates for the convention are
