Thanks to the Northern Ohio Amateur Radio
Society, Northern Ohio DX Association, Ohio/Penn PacketCluster
Network, WB2RAJ/WB2YQH & The 59(9) DXReport, K3ZO, N4GN,
N6RT, K8YSE, K9LA, K9VV, AH0W/OH2LVG, F6AJA, G3NOM, G3SXW, G4BUE
& DX News Sheet, HB9HFN, HS0/G4UAV and ON4VT for the
following DX information.
IMPORTANT NOTICE FROM EDITOR! It is a shame I
have to go through this again, but BARF-80 BBS (Basic Amateur
Radio Frequency) is NO (repeat NO) way connected or associated
with the B.A.R.F. (Better Amateur Radio Federation). The same
notice was issued several years back, but due to the numerous
messages appearing on the UseNet groups dealing with B.A.R.F. and
involving hatred towards individuals, this message is important
to circulate before confusion between BARF-80 BBS and B.A.R.F.
gets out of hand. PLEASE PASS THE WORD! There is NO ASSOCIATION
OR CONNECTION.
4X, ISRAEL. Look for Cedric,
HB9HZN, to be signing 4X/HB9HFN now until November 13th from
Tel-Aviv. He is there on a business trip but plans to be active
as much as possible during the evening. He will be taking an
IC-706 w/Tuner and wires. QSL to his home call (bureau preferred)
or direct to Cedric Baechler, Mettetlet 26, 1763 Granges-Paccot,
Switzerland.
5T, MAURITANIA. Members of the
International Amateur Radio Volunteers (IARV) led by Yoshi,
JA1UT, and Toshi, JA8RUZ, are currently in Nouakchott to
implement an aid project. This project will help in the setup of
hospital/ambulance radio communications, assistance to UNICEF,
and assistance to the Government with the famous Paris-Dakar
Motor Rally. The main activity will take place between November
6-13th. They hope and expect to have the 5T5U licence reissued to
them, but the operation may be supervised, so "pile-up"
type operations may not be possible. Their operating times are
subject to spare time. They will give an emphasis to CW on all
bands including the WARC bands, excluding 1.8 MHz (check +30 kHz
from the band edge, except for LF bands). They plan to operate on
RTTY (on 14, 21, and possibly 7 MHz, frequency not yet decided).
On SSB, check 14185, 21285, 28585 and check PacketCluster spots
for 7/3.8 MHz. QSL to JA1UT.
5V, TOGO (Update). Roger, G3SXW,
provided OPDX with the following update and reminder: "All
arrangements are in place for the 5V7A expedition to Togo, to
operate in the Multi-Multi category of CQ World-Wide CW Contest.
Before the contest (November 26th to 28th) we will operate on
contest bands, checking antennas. After, (December 1st to 4th) we
will also operate WARC bands. Arrangements have now also been
made to operate some RTTY. These operations (several simultaneous
stations) will be with personal callsigns: 5V7A/G3SXW,
5V7ZM/G3ZEM, 5V7FA/G4FAM, 5V7RF/GM3YTS, 5V7VT/K5VT, 5V7PN/K7PN
5V7MF/KC7V, 5V7BG/N7BG, 5V7MB/N7MB and 5V7BV/W6RGG." For
more details check out the following WEB site: http://www.getnet.com/~k7wx/5v7a.html
9A, CROATIA. Croatian club radio
station 9A1CRD will be celebrating its 20th anniversary until
December 31st, with special callsign 9A20D. All activity will be
on 80-10 meters frequencies with operations on CW and SSB. QSL
via 9A1CRD.
9Q ON SSTV! On Tuesday, November
4th, Peter/ON6TT made the first SSTV QSO ever from 9Q (Democratic
Republic Congo) using the call 9Q2T. The first pictures from 9Q2T
are already on WWW. Check ON4VT's WEB site at: http://www.ping.be/on4vt/
A6, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES (Update). David,
K3LP (ex AA6DC), will now be joined by Rich, KE3Q, for his
November 22nd to December 2nd operation as A61AJ. Activity will
be mostly CW and on the lower bands (watch their local sunset at
1327z). David (and probably Rich) will also be an entry in the
CQWW CW Contest. QSL this operation only to K3LP. Meanwhile,
disaster hits A6 operators by a cyclone that hit Dubai at the end
of October. "The DX News Sheet" reports A61AD lost his
KT34XA, A61AN lost his 20m yagi, A61AO's yagi is now vertically
polarised and partially damaged, but A61AQ's antennas survived.
EL, LIBERIA. "The 59(9)
DXReport" states that Joe, K3KN, who has been active as
EL/K3KN is now sporting his new EL2JR callsign. OPDX has found
him to be active on some of the WARC bands. This past weekend he
was heard on 30 meters between 0000 and 0530z and on 17 meters
(around 18074 kHz) between 1930 and 2330z. QSL via KB3U.
FO, RIMATAR ISLAND (Postponed).
Albert's (FO5JR) planned activity from this Polynesian island
(IOTA OC-50) in December has been postponed due to the projected
weather forecast. The forecast states a very bad and hard summer
season and Albert wishes to stay at home. He will now try to be
there next July.
HS0, THAILAND. Tony, HS0/G4UAV,
announces that the Radio Amateur Society of Thailand is planning
an all-out multi effort in the 1997 CQWW CW from its club station
HS0AC at the Asian Institute of Technology near Bangkok Airport.
SM3DYU and LA7JO are organizing the effort which will also
include VK3DXI, E21CJN and EY8MM. However, they would like to
have five or six more operators to really make a full go of it.
PERMISSION FOR THE OPERATION TO UTILIZE 80 AND 160 METERS HAS
ALREADY BEEN OBTAINED. If you are interested, please contact Tony
(quickly) at his E-mail address: tonyw@mozart.inet.co.th
Fred, K3ZO, added something to this annoucement which readers may
find interesting: "Granted, this announcement is being made
on very short notice. But consider the fact that Thailand, never
an expensive tourist destination to start with, is now a real
bargain with the dollar worth 60% more in the local currency than
it was a few months ago. The Institute has a comfortable and
inexpensive hotel right on the campus within easy walking
distance of HS0AC. Persons flying in on that Thursday or Friday,
from the U..S. at least, can often get special discounts because
of it being the Thanksgiving holiday whereby most people have
already arrived at their destinations. No visa need be obtained
in advance in order to enter Thailand; you will be given a 30-day
permit to stay in Thailand on arrival at the airport."
J2, DJIBOUTI. Jean, F6AJA,
reports Dominique, J28DB (home callsign unknown), will be active
for the next 3 years. QSL via F4AAQ.
J8. ST. VINCENT. "The 59(9)
DXReport" states that Volkmar, DF2SS, will be active from
here December 20th through January 20, 1998. No callsign was
mentioned, but the "DX News Sheet" reports that their
activity will included operations on 160 meters and RTTY.
JD, MINAMI TORISHIMA. Look for
Take, JG8NQJ, to be active as JG8NQJ/JD1 from Marcus Island,
starting November 25th, and lasting until February 20, 1998. He
will be working at the meteorological station on the island. QSL
via JA8CJY.
NH2, GUAM. Bill, NH6D, who lived
in Honolulu and operated off and on from Midway last year, has
permanently moved to Guam. He will be using the callsign
NH2/NH6D. Over time, he will be more and more active on the low
bands. QSL to his manager N6FF.
P4, ARUBA. Bob, K4UEE, will be
active once again as P40R during the CQWW CW Contest as a
Single/OP entry. QSL via NK4U.
QSL INFO AND NEWS...
Tim, N4GN, reports that the OH0/N4GN and OJ0/N4GN
DXpedition logs are now searchable at the following URL: http://www.iglou.com/n4gn/oj0/
He states, "Much of the original logs were on paper,
so there are likely a few data entry errors. Please
notify me of any discrepancies. Details regarding the QSL
status are also available at this same URL, and will be
updated as necessary. The bottom line now is that I
expect to answer direct requests by the end of December.
Please do not send second (or third!) requests before
then. Tnx for your patience! 73, Tim Totten, n4gn@iglou.com....."
Doug, N6RT, wants to remind everyone that the FO8DX QSLs
for 1997 CQWW SSB Contest go via KG6AR: Chris Williams,
1117 So. Del Mar Ave., San Gabriel, CA 91776-3034. He
also mentions that their FO0 2x2 callsigns listed in the
bulletins before the contest were never issued. Please
remove them from any QSL info lists you see. All current
visitor licenses are 2x3 FO0 callsigns with the suffix
being the first three letters of your last name (or the
closest unissued callsign). The following are the actual
callsigns issued and their QSL routes:
