5W, WESTERN SAMOA. Perry, WH6XY,
who is active as 5W1PC until November, can be found mostly
weekends operating SSB on 15, 17 and 20 meters using a FT-757 and
delta loop. He is currently working as a schoolteacher there.
7Q, MALAWI. The DX News
Sheet reports that Eli, IN3VZE (ex-9J2CE), will be active
now until August 25th as 7Q7CE. Operations will be on SSB, 20, 15
and 10 meters. QSL via homecall.
BT, CHINA. Lou, PA0LOU, will be
active from September 4-16th with the special callsign BT1IARU
while attending the IARU Region 3 Conference. Operations will be
from a hotel in Beijing where he is staying along with other
delegates.
FW, WALLIS & FUTUNA ISLANDS.
Paul, FW5IW, will continue to be active from here until August
14th. Reports state he will be active on CW only on 15, 20, 40
and 80 meters. Most of the QSNs reported so far have been on 20
and 40 meters. QSL via OH5UQ.
IOTA NEWS...
ED5HQ and EF5HQ will activate Columretes Islands (IOTA
EU-069) from August 7-10th. Look for them on the
following suggested frequencies: SSB - 3700 (under) and
21200 kHz and CW - 7025 kHz.
CT1FMX and CT1AXS will activate Berlenga Island (IOTA
EU-40) from August 10-16th as CQ1I. Operations will be on
80-10 meters. They will pay special attention to all
stations in the Pacific and also JA and VK land. This
team will also operate, if they have good conditions, the
other islands near Berlenga for the FIRST time ever. QSL

G3ZAY, GM0UGG, G0PCE, and G0PYA will be active from the
Scottish Island of Shiant (EU-112) August 16-17th
(weather permitting). QSL via G3ZAY: 41 Enniskillen Road,
Cambridge, CB4 1SQ, England, or via bureau.
NEW IOTA! BG7IA, BG7IB, BG7KR, BG7KT, BG7LP, BG7NI,
BD7JA, BD7JG, BG7JK, BD7KW are in the planning stage of
putting a new Island On The Air (IOTA). This island is
DanGan Island which is part of the Wai-Lin-Din
Archepelego (NE of HongKong) and is listed in the
Guangong Province East Group without a reference number.
They are planning for this to take place August 15-17th.
KH2, GUAM. Ray, WH6ASW, will
sign WH6AW/KH2 from here again from mid-August until December.
QSL via VK4FW.
KH3, JOHNSTON ISLAND. Al, KK5ZX,
will be active every third and fourth day during his stay
beginning August 23rd. His activity will be from the club station
there and operations will be mostly CW but, there will be some
SSB on 160-10 meters.
KP2, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS. Long
time DXpeditioners Doug, W3CF; and Dick, K3MQH; will be active
from Windwood, WP2Z, from October 22-30th. During their stay,
they will participate as a Multi/Something entry in the 1997 CQWW
Phone Contest. These charter members of V26B will focus on WARC
bands and RS-12 during free time. QSL W3CF/KP2 to his QSL Manager
Koos, KK3S. QSL K3MQH/KP2 to his home call, K3MQH. QSL contest
call "WP2Z" for THIS CONTEST ONLY (1997 CQWW PHONE) to
KK3S. Windwood is a rental property, so many different QSL routes
will apply. Pay close attention to announced QSL routes in
specified time periods and specific contests. For more

NEW BEACONS...
Martin, G3USF (IARU Region 1 HF Beacon Coordinator),
reports that the latest IBP HF beacon to become
operational is OA4B. It transmits on 14100, 18110, 21150,
24930 and 28200 kHz in the worldwide beacon network
sponsored by NCDXF. OA4B transmits for 10 seconds on each
of these frequencies in turn between LU4AA and YV5B. Like
the other NCDXF/IBP beacons, the power steps down from
100 watts to 0.1 watts. Martin also reportd that 5Z4B,
the Kenya beacon in the same network, is currently off
the air due to power supply problems.
Carlos, PY1CAS, reports that a new 6 meter beacon is on
the air. The Brazilian League (LABRE) now has a beacon in
Rio de Janeiro working on 50052.0 MHz. It is running 5W
on a Ground Plane.
P4, ARUBA. The DX News
Letter states DL3XM, DL4LQM, DL5LYM and DL8WAA will be on
the air as P40XM from August 1-26th, which will include activity
in the WAE CW Contest. They will also try to activate PJ2 and
PJ7. QSL via Gunter, DL3XM (ex DL8WXM), via bureau or CBA 1997.
QSL INFO AND NEWS...
The GI7J 1997 IOTA Contest Team (GI0KOW/Robert,
GI0NWG/Andrew, GW4VEQ/ Tony, EI6FR/Declan, EI2GX/Tony,
EI7DSB/Liam, EI7HF/Emmet and EI9IF/ Alan) would like to
thank everyone who made a contact with them during the
contest. Also, they would like to remind everyone that
QSL cards for GI7J will be handled by Tony, GW4VEQ.
If you were lucky to work Ray, G3NOM/9M2OM as 9M2OM/P,
from an island in the Selangor/Negeri Sembilan State
Group off the West Coast of West Malaysia (IOTA AS-074),
QSL via G0CMM.
Ted, K8NA, is the QSL Manager for KH2D, Guam Island (IOTA
OC-026). K8NA has the computer logs for KH2D dating back
to January, 1986. All those needing QSL confirmations for
KH2D, may send to K8NA direct or via the bureau.
T4, CUBA (Attention Prefix Hunters).
Members from Kvarnberget Amateur Radio Club (SK0UX) and Radio
Club Las Tunas will activate Cuba with a unique callsign T48RCT
during the 1997 CQWW CW Contest November 29-30th. Operators from
Sweden will be SM0DRD/Goran, SM0JHF/Henryk, SM0KCO/Carlos,
SM0MO/Ingvar, SM0AIG/Ingemar and SM5DSB/Kare. Operators from
Radio Club Las Tunas were not listed in the release. The station
will be active one week before the contest, and one week after.
Activity will be on CW, SSB, RTTY which inclues operations on the
WARC bands. QSL via SK0UX. A SK0UX QSL-server will be available

TY, BENIN. Sigi, DJ4IJ, will be
active once again from now until September 10th as TY1IJ. His
activity will be mainly 160, 80 and 30 meters. He has a sked on
18140 kHz during the weekends (no times were given). QSL via
DK8ZD.
V31, BELIZE. Joe, K8JP, and his
XYL Bev will be traveling here on August 12th and then return
home on August 21st. He is currently waiting for his callsign to
be issued. He reports to us that he will operate on 80-6 meters,
but maybe 160 is possible. Joe will be active mostly on CW with
some SSB operations. At times they will be active mobile
depending on how bumpy the roads are (Joe..."They are all
bumpy, some are just worse than others.") QSL via: Joe

SPECIAL NOTE: His Indiana or any other addresses are no longer

VK9, NORFOLK ISLAND. According
to The Daily DX, Kevin now signing VK9NX is here for
about 2 weeks celebrating his 60th birthday. He was heard active
most days on 80 meters between 1000 and 1200z. QSL via VK2CE.
VK0, MACQUARIE ISLAND. Tom,
VK0TS, has become increasingly active over the last few days.
Watch for him on 14222 kHz starting around 0400z (sometimes with
Jim, VK9NS). Reports also indicate he sometimes goes to 40 meters
(7075 kHz) around 1100z to work VK, ZL and JA operators. If he is
not around 40 meters this time check 80 meters (3799 kHz).
XU, KAMPUCHEA (Cambodia). Both
Mike, XU6WV, and Harv, XU2FB, continue to be active on 20 meters
looking for NA and SA stations. Look for them to be on between
1130 and 1430z. Frequencies reported on were: 14192, 14195 and
14226.5 kHz.
ZD9, TRISTAN DA CUNHA. Ian,
ZD9IL, is active from here and can be found on most bands. JA
operators have heard Ian on 14202 kHz between 1500 and 1600z
working mostly JA stations. There were no other QSNs reported.
