HA0HW, HL2KAT, JA1ELY, JA1HGY, OH6KXL, PP5LL, SM0AJV, VE2PIJ and
VY2SS for the following DX information.
1997 NEW ENGLAND DXCC CONVENTION. The
Patriot DX Association will be sponsoring the 1997 New England
DXCC Convention to be held Sunday, October 12th. The convention
will be held at the Chelmsford Elks Hall, Chelmsford, Mass. (jct
I-495/RTE3). An exciting program is shaping up with a pair of new
shows from K1XM 1996 CQWW at J3, and the 1997 Spratley trip. N6EK
will share his experiences at VK0IR. For more info, contact Bill,
N1BB (E-mail address N1BB@JUNO.COM).
5A, LIBYA. The "DX News
Sheet" reports that EA5FKI will be active early September
from the 5A1A club station. RTTY was mentioned.
CE0, EASTER ISLANDS.
Erling/LA6VM and Just/LA9DL have plans after their Peru (see
South American Visit) trip to be active from here July 31st to
August 4th during their holiday visit. Their callsigns have not
been announced as of yet, but using a TS-50 and dipoles antennas,
their suggested frequencies were given as:
CW - 7001, 10101, 14001, 18069, 21001 and 28001 kHz
SSB - 7047, 14185, 18120, 21275 and 28475 kHz
QSL to their home calls via the bureau or direct.
CY9, ST. PAUL ISLAND (ATTENTION RTTY
OPs). Robby, VY2SS, reports to OPDX that he and
operators VY2LI, VY2CD, VY2RO and VY2KHZ will be active during
the last week in July. The team hopes to land on the morning of
the 23rd (weather permitting) and leave on the 31st. They report
that their activity will be concentrated on RTTY as it has been
neglected in many past operations. Their callsign will be CY9SS.
QSL via VY2SS. There will also be activity on 6 meters beaming at
Europe with a beacon on 50.101 MHz. They will also participate in
the IOTA contest from there as well.
EP, IRAN. Paul, N5PG, has
recently called the League to find out the status of EP2MKO. Bill
Moore at DXCC advised him that this station is "OK" for
DXCC. This station has been heard recently on 20 meters (around
14001 kHz) around 1200z or between 2200 and 2230z. QSL via
UA6HCW.
FO, FRENCH POLYNESIA. The
following group will operate from Bora Bora as a Multi-Single
entry in the CQWW Phone contest in October. The operation will be
from the Bora Bora DX Club station and will use the club call
FO8DX during the contest. Stan, FO5IW, will be their host for the
week. Outside of the contest, the group will operate with
individual FO calls, Ron N6VO/FO5VO, Doug N6RT/FO0RT, Mike
W6RW/FO0RW, John KA7CQQ/FO0CQ and Charlie W6KK/FO0KK. QSL to
CBA's or W6DA.
FR, REUNION. Look for DF2SS to
be active sometime between July 28 and August 17th. He will sign
as FR/DF2SS/P and will operate mostly SSB on 160-10 meters.
FRENCH WEST COAST IOTA DXPEDITION. Just
a reminder that David, ON4BDS, continues to activate islands from
here (EU-157 and EU-074 this past week). His next stops are:
EU-065 (Ouessant) July now-22; EU-094 (Glenan) July 22-25th and
EU-068 (Sein) July 25-28th. After he leaves Sein, he might also
activate EU-105 and EU107. Operations are planned for activity on
all HF bands, including WARC. QSL cards are "OK" via
the 1996 Callbook address, or via the bureau to ON4BDS.
IOTA NEWS...
Chung, HL2KAT, informs OPDX that there will be some IOTA
activity from South Korea. Team leader Lee, DS4CNB, will
use the callsign HL0Z/area to activate the following
islands: HL0Z/5 Hansan-do Island (AS-080) July 19-20th;
HL0Z/4 Huksa-do Island (AS-093) July 26-28th; HL0Z/4
Wan-do Island (AS-060) July 29; and HL0Z/4 Soan-do Island
(AS-085) July 30-31st. Suggested frequencies: CW - 7003
or 14020 kHz and SSB - 7084 or 14260 kHz. QSL via bureau
or direct to: D.R. Lee, DS4CNB, KwangSan P.O Box 111,
KwangJu 506-050, Korea
A Group of Finnish-German hams will activate the Island
of Hailuoto (EU-126) from August 15-17th. They will use
call OH8TA and will operate mostly on 14260 kHz, but
there will be other HF/VHF/UHF bands that will be used as
well. Operating modes are SSB and CW. QSL cards will be
delivered via bureau.
Jay, PP5LL, will be active from Campeche Island (SA-026)
from August 7-11th and San Franciso Island (SA-027)
September 1-15th. Callsign to be used on both islands
will be PR5L. Activity will be on CW/SSB on the use IOTA
frequencies. QSL via PP5LL.
JD1, OGASAWARA ISLAND. Look for
members of "Mitubishi Electric Tokyo Ham Club" to be
active from here August 14-16th, as JM1YGG/JD1. They will be
operational on 40-6 meters CW/SSB. QSL via JM1YGG (JARL) or
direct to 7N3GNX: Tatuo Torii, 34-10 Sakuragaoka 3, Tama, 206
JAPAN
KH2, GUAM. JA1HGY and JI1DLZ
will be active from here July 25-27th, as KH2/JA1HGY and WH2Q,
respectively. Operations will be on 40-6 meters (modes not
mentioned). QSL KH2/JA1HGY via JA1HGY: Nao Mashita, 8-2-4
Akasaka, Minato, Tokyo 107, JAPAN. QSL WH2Q via JI1DLZ.
KG2, GUANTANAMO BAY. Larry,
WB6VGI, will be returning to GIMTO, Cuba, around the 8th of
August for about 30 days. Signing KG4ML (CW and SSB), he will be
operating 160-10 meters on the weekends and 80-15 meters on the
weekdays. His work schedule will determine the weekday times, but
he hopes to be on from 1000-1130 and 2200-0300z. Larry states the
weekends will be the big push (but taking time out for a fishing
trip or two). This looks like the last trip down to GITMO for
Larry, so he is going to try and work as many that need KG4 as
possible. WARC bands will have a higher priority as the resident
HAM population spends a lot of time on the "usual"
bands. He reports 10 MHz is very difficult due to a local noise
source that's about 30 over S9, but he will try whenever the
noise is absent. QSL is via WB6VGI.
OH0, ALAND ISLAND. A group from
Sweden will be active from August 14-17th. Callsigns to be used:
OH0/SM0AJV, OH0/SM0EEH, OH0/SM0GNS, 0H0/SM0HJZ, OH0/SM0HPL,
OH0/SM0IEA and OH0/SM0IHR. More information about Aland Island
and this DXpedition can be found on their WEB page: http://www.mistra.se/oh0/
PIRATE OPERATIONS REPORTED!!!!!
QSL Manager Ray, W8CNL, reports the operation of a 9K2ZZ
on the 4th of July was a SLIM. Please DO NOT QSL for this
operation. Last operation from 9K2ZZ was on December 4,
1996.
A station recently operating as ZD7HI on CW is reportedly
a PIRATE. The real Chris, ZD7HI, only operates SSB. Chris
is also not active on 160 or 80 meters at the moment.
QSL INFO AND NEWS...
Ray, 5R8FK, is asking that we give the widest
dissemination as possible for his new QSL route. He asks
that "QSL via home call NY3N" be effective
immediately.
Paul, N5PG, reports working 9K2RR (May 97) who said,
"QSL via K1VKO". K1VKO advises that he is NOT
and NEVER HAS BEEN QSL Manager for this station (or any
other for the last 5 yrs).
F5LGQ informed Jean, F6AJA, that he is waiting for the
XT2DB QSLs from the printer. Some technical problems
appeared and it's necessary to wait. PLEASE be patient!
SOUTH AMERICAN VISIT. Before
heading to Easter Island (see CE0), Erling/LA6VM and Just/LA9DL
plan to be active during a holiday trip now until July 26th as
OA/LA6VM and OA/LA9DL. They also plan to vist Bolivia from July
26-29th, Chile from July 29-31st, and Brazil from August 5-7th.
They have not received the licenses for these countries as of
yet, but expect to receive them upon their arrival. Suggested
frequencies and modes are the same as the CE0 operation.
SPECIAL PREFIXES. From now until
2400z September 15th, be looking for the following special
prefixes to be active to commemorate the "Centenary for
Victorian Order of Nurses for Canada" (Regular
prefixes/Special prefixes): VA2/XL2, VA3/CI3, VE1/CG1, VE2/CG2,
VE3/XL3, VE4/CG4, VE5/CG5, VE6/CG6, VE7/CG7, VE8/CG8, VE9/CG9,
VO1/XO3, VO2/XO4, VY1/XN1 and VY2/XN2.
TK, CORSICA. F5UKW will be
signing TK/F5UKW from August 12-31st. He will be active on 40 and
20 meters during his evenings. If he can, he will be active from
Cavallo and/or Lavezzi (IOTA EU164).
XV, VIETNAM. Rolf, XV7SW, has
returned to Hanoi after a month's vacation in his homeland of
Sweden. It has been reported that Rolf is scheduled to leave his
position at the Swedish Embassy in the middle of September. He
will return to Sweden, but plans to keep his license since he
expects to visit Vietnam again later in the year or early 1998.
YI, IRAQ. Laci, HA0HW, has
recently talked to his good friend, Sanyi, HA7VK, who is
currently active as YI9VK in Bagdad. Sanyi's licence allows him
to work on 7, 14, 18, 21, 24, 28 MHz CW/SSB/RTTY. Unfortunately,
he is forbidden to work on 160, 80, and 30 meters from Iraq.
Sanyi sent in an application to use these bands for a week as
"experimental" bands. He hopes he will get an answer
before leaving for home. Laci reports good news from Sanyi who
stated that he can now operate from his place of residence. Last
week Sanyi had to operate from The Central Radio Club only, with
his work schedule and the open hours of club, his operating times
did not work out too well. Now he has full-permission to work
from his residence with his own rig. His son Gabi, HA7SK, is also
active as YI9SK, but only has permission to operate from the
club. They will be trying to get this changed with the help from
Mr. Adnan, YI1DX, who is the President of "Iraque Amateur
Radio Association". Sanyi will leave July 29th.
Z2, ZIMBABWE (Update). As
mentioned in OPDX.311, Cedrick, N9YXA, would be active from here
(August 3-21st), but he did not know at that time of the
announcement what his callsign would be. Well, it is official
now, Cedrick will be signing Z2/N9YXA. Check out his 1997
Zimbabwe DXpedition Website at: http://www.netcom.com/~n9yxa/zimbab/
ZD7, ST. HELENA. Gilbert, ZD7BG,
is active on CW 80-10 meters. Last QSNs reported were around
14015 kHz between 1900 and 2100z. QSL to P.O. Box 157, Jamestown,
St. Helena Island.
ZK1, SOUTH COOK ISLANDS. Tony,
KQ2I, informs OPDX that he will be active on 30 and 40 meter CW
as ZK1AAT from Aitutaki, August 1-11th. There is a possibility
for him to be active from Rarotonga, July 25-31st. Tony states,
"Real signal reports appreciated". QSL via his
homecall.
