3B9, RODRIGUES ISLAND. A station
was active signing 3B9RD during last week. Activity was on 30
meters (around 10114 kHz) at various times (around 1615z and
2100z). The station stated to QSL via IK5XCT.
3C0DX UPDATE. Countdown
continues and everything is reportedly all ready. The 3C0DX Team
will leave from the Madrid airport in Spain on May 19th at 1830z.
They will arrive in Paris, France 2 hours later and take a plane
to Libreville, Gabon, at 0300z on May 20th. Six hours later they
will in be Africa. Flying over the Gulf of Guinea, two little
planes will take them and the equipment to the island in about 2
hours. The team will spend a whole week being active 24 hours a
day transmitting on all bands and all modes including satellites.

5A, LIBYA. Activity from 5A1A
during June by an Italian group is reported. Activity may
included 6 meters.
5X, UGANDA. Mats, SM7PKK, left
for 5X-land on April 28th. He states that he is on contract for
the UN and will stay in Africa for about 6 months. He also
mentions that since this is a job and not a DXpedition, he will
not have to much time available for ham radio. However, he plans
to manage to get some minutes in from the locations he will
visit. His work will take him extensively back and forth between
Uganda, Zaire, Rwanda, Burundi and Tanzania. DO NOT QSL VIA THE

5Z, KENYA. Rob, 5Z4RL, the
president of the Kenya Amateur Radio Society, is reportedly
trying to arrange a reciprocal licensing with the USA and other
countries.
ANTENNEX GOES ON-LINE.
Editor-in-Chief Jack, K5CNF, reports to OPDX that
"AntenneX", a magazine all about antennas,
experimentation, construction and signal problems, which is read
by 14,000 in 45 countries, is now online at http://www.antennex.com.
A free subscription is available to read the library of new
monthly issues, archives, programs, etc.....
BS7H QRT FROM SCARBOROUGH REEF.
A news release from Tim, N4GN, states: "The BS7H 1997
DXpedition shut down at approximately 0645Z, 03 May--much earlier
than planned. The reason for the early shutdown is stil not
entirely clear at this time. Tim, N4GN, was in communication with
the team prior to the close of their operation, however only
partial details were available at that time. Further bulletins
will be issued once all the facts are fully known." For

C6, CROOKED ISLAND, BAHAMAS (Update).
Joe, WB8GEX, reports this place has not been activated for
several years. Population is between 300-400. He mentions if
things work out, he will have a 6 meter dipole, a tri-bander, and
Inverted Vs on 40 and 80 meters during his operation as C6AJR
which takes place May 30th through June 2nd. QSL via Joe Pater,

CE0, EASTER ISLAND. A Japanese
operator, JA7KXD, is now active as CE0/JA7KXD. The station was
heard on 7004 kHz at 1000z. No other details or length of stay
are available at the present. QSL via home call.
CY9, ST. PAUL ISLAND. Countdown
continues for the CY9AA DXpedition, operation slated to commence
on June 26th, and depart the island on the morning of July 3rd.
In an excerpt from a VERY long press release (which all OPDX
InterNet Subscribers will receive the complete release) the CY9AA
"Team's Mission Statement" states they will "Make
as many contacts as possible on CW and SSB on all bands from 160
to 6 meters in an orderly and controlled manner that provides
equal opportunity as dictated by propagation for operators from
all corners of the world to complete a contact with St. Paul
Island, CY9. Pay particular attention to lowering the demand for
CY9 on 160 and 6 meters. Conduct ourselves in a safe and
complementary manners such that all operators and callers enjoy
the end result of the DXpedition. Answer requests for a QSL
confirmation as quickly as possible upon our return." (per

FT5Z, AMSTERDAM ISLAND. The
"DX News Letter" reports FT5ZG finally received the
amplifier sponsored by the Clipperton DX Club. Eric is now back
on air. QSL via F5RQQ.
HS0, KOH CHANG (Elephant Island,
Thailand). As promised, there will be a second visit to
this island (IOTA AS-125, located North East Group) in the Gulf
of Thailand. The emphasis will be working North America, but not
exclusively. The following operators will be signing HS50A from
0600z on May 8-11th: E21CJN, E21EJC, HS1YL, HS1RU, HS1AAM,
HS1CDX, HS1EUD, HS1OVH, HS2NS, HS2FDX, HS2JFW, HS6CMT, HS7CDI,
HS7ECI and 9M2OM. They will operate from the Klong Prao Resort,
on Koh Chang. Suggested CW/SSB frequencies:
CW - 1826, 3507/3522, 7007, 14024, 21024 and 28024
SSB - 7060 (split will announced), 14260, 21260 and
28475/28260
QSLs for JA contacts ONLY is via JA9IFF and international
contacts via I1JQJ (bureau or direct). The organizers are
Chamlong, HS1AAM, and Chairat, HS2FDX, on behalf of the Radio
Amateur Society of Thailand. Their international liaison is Ray,
G3NOM/9M2OM.
IOTA NEWS...
AS-043, HACHIJO ISLAND. JA2ZTR/1 will be aired May
17-19th. Operators will be JA2KVB, JH2ECU and JJ2AJE.
Activity will be mostly CW. QSL via bureau or direct.
NEW IOTA. Reports indicate that YC8TZR and YC8VYY have
transportation problems and could not activate Kai Island
during this past weekend. They will try to activate Kai
Island (not IOTA number yet) May 5th and will be there
for 7 days.
AS-041/OKI ISLAND. JI4POR, JM4MAQ, JM4BPV and JA4DND will
be active from here as homecall/4 from June 28-30th. They
will operate 160-6 meters on CW/SSB with vertical
antennas for low band and yagi antennas for 20-6 meters.
Mainly check the IOTA frequencies. QSL to home call via
bureau or direct. Hiromi, JA4DND, states that if you
worked JA4DND/4 in 1989 from Oki Island and still need a
QSL, he will still send it. QSL to his CBA.
JD1, OGASAWARA. It has been
reported that Mr.Yamamoto, JF1LGD/JD1, is active and looking for
the DX station. He operates mainly on 15 meters at/or around
0800-1200z.
KH7K, KURE ISLAND. Art, N2NB,
has cancelled his trip which was to take place May 17-23rd. He
was not able to obtain landing permission for a plane and could
not arrange other transportation. BUT KEEP YOUR FINGERS CROSSED!
Charles, N4BQW, reportedly is planning an operation some time
this month.
OJ0, MARKET REEF. Markus/DL1IAN,
Ulli/DL3YEL, Peter/DL5IO and Stefan/ DL6GV, will be active from
Market Reef as OJ0/homecall from June 1-6th. Activity will be on
80-6 meter. QSLs will be automatically sent out via the bureau by
DL5IO.
QSL INFO AND NEWS..... Serge,
RU6BV, who is 23 years old, states he and RV6AQ are on the air
weekly (calling their net the "Information Desk"). They
are on 3620 kHz at 0900z Sunday, where they help the many local
DXers find some much needed information about QSL Managers,
DXpedition, etc. Serge also mentions he is the QSL Manager for
RV6ASY, UA6ART, RW6AWM, RZ6AZH and RZ6AXE. He also offers his QSL
services to any DX station. He will print your QSL cards (if you
want it) which he reports "with the fine quality, from 2
color to full-color photo QSL. And I DO NOT NEED your money! I
need only you to agree and the logs. And I WANT to help you and
any DXers!" (ed. SUCH A DEAL!) Serge's address can be found

R1, FRANZ JOSEF LAND. Good News!
Nick, R1FJV, will still continue to be active until the end of
the year. His activity is mainly CW on 40-10 meters. QSL via
UA3AGS.
TT8, CHAD. Baldur, DJ6SI, is
currently active as TT8DX. Activity is supposed to last through
the week (May 9th). Baldur enjoys working mainly CW. Check all
bands especially 1828, 3508/3510-15 and on 40-10 meters, look for
him 25 kHz/up 5. He was heard on 17 and 30 meters. QSL via DJ6SI.
V5, NAMIBIA. Laurence, GM4DMA,
is planning to be active on all HF bands including 6 meters for
one month beginning June 17th. He will be signing V5/GM4DMA.
VP2M, MONTSERRAT. Begin looking
for Graham, G0VNW, from Montserrat as VP2MGG after May 7th. He
will be using a G5RV or a vertical at first until a better
antennas system arrives later. He operates mainly SSB but will
try CW from time to time. QSL via WB2YQH.
