3DA, SWAZILAND. It has been
reported that two different operations will be active in 3DA for
the CQWW SSB Contest (October 26-27th). Both groups will be
active on all bands. The first group will be active as 3DA0DX

operators will be using various 3DA0 callsign. QSL via WJ2O. The
second operation will sign 3DA0NX during the contest which will
be Single Op entry by Koji, ZS6CAX (ex JM1CAX/KG7WW). He states
this operation will be the part of contesting team registered as
the "Team Nippon". 6Y5XX, FG5BG, V85HG and JH7PKU will
be the partners (all JA ops). For QSLs if it's via bureau send it
to JM1CAX but no direct mail to Koji JA address. QSL direct to:
Koji Tahara, JM1CAX, ZS6CAX, Japan Embassy, P.O. Box 11434,
Brooklyn 0011, South Africa. Meanwhile, the "DX News
Sheet" reports Jon, 3DA0CA, is active again after his
holiday in the USA, with a new FT990 and FL7000 giving him more
power. He has put up a B/W 160-10m folded dipole and has worked a
W8 on 160 meter with it. He is regularly active at his sunrise
(0326z) below 3510kHz. QSL via W4DR.
5X, UGANDA (News by Peter,
5X1T/ON6TT)....
Gus, 5X1D, has left the country as of October 11th. QSL
via SM0BFJ. Another Swedish ham will replace him, but the
latter has not received a call yet.
5X1R is still active from the same QTH. (ed. Peter did
not supply the QTH and I could not find it in my
records). QSL via SM4ARJ.
5X4F is back. He arrived in his QTH in Arua, North
Uganda, last week, and is back on the air. Paul has
brought with him an 80 ft tower, but it will take some
time before he will move his yagi and lowband antennas to
that tower (approx. end November). Paul states that his
new QSL manager is K3SW.
5X1T, Peter, reports that his QSL cards are now in
printing. His QSL Manager, ON5NT, has all the logs. So
far he has made about 8,000 QSOs from 5X (with about 1500
on RTTY). Peter will be active in the CQWW SSB Contest on
15 meters single band or low power all band depending if
his low band antenna arrives on time out of Burundi.
9M2, WEST MALAYSIA. Tex, 9M2TO,
reports to OPDX that as of October 7th, he built and installed a
80/160 dipole, so begin looking for him on those bands. QSL via
JA0DMV thru the bureau or direct to: Terutsugu Izumo, Bukit
Dumbar Apt. 9-4, 97 Jalan Thomas 11700 Gelugor, Penang Island,
Malaysia
8Q7, MALDIVES (UPDATE, ref OPDX.261). Josep,
EA3BT, and his wife Nuria, EA3AOK, will be active as 8Q7BT and
8Q7OK October 23-31st and have announced the following operating
times on RTTY: U.S. on 14085 kHz between 1600-2000z, Japan
(meaning also Asia) on 15 meters between 0300-0800z and Europe on
15 meters between 1100-1600z.
C9, MOZAMBIQUE. The DXNS reports
Jon, 3DA0CA, will be active 1500z October 23rd to 0500z October
28th (including CQWW SSB Contest) as C91CO from Maputo. Activity
will be on 160, 40 and 20 meters. QSL W4DR.
CY0, SABLE ISLAND. Operators
WA4DAN, AH9B, VK2BEX, and V73C are planning to be active from
here October 21-29th. In addition to the DXpedition, they plan to
operate in the CQWW Contest as well. This was not orginally
planned as a contest operation. However, the best dates available
from Environmental Canada included the contest weekend. So why
not? The operators will be signing homecall/CY0, but have
requested CY0XX for the contest. At this time they do not know if
the call will be issued in time. The QSL Manager is Murray,
WA4DAN, QSL via his Callbook address. They will operate on all
bands and plan to have active two PHONE, two CW stations and one
station dedicated to RTTY.
D2, ANGOLA (UPDATE). Alex,
PA3DZN (aka 9X5EE, 9Q2L, etc), has arrived in Luanda. He arranged
a meeting with the PTT Director, and has received the callsign
D25L (Delta-two-five-Lima). However, he does not expect to be
active soon, as his antennas and amplifier is still under way and
are not expected to arrive for the next 2-3 weeks. He does have
his radio and keyer here, so he may string up a 40 meter dipole.
However, he states it may not be worth going through the trouble
because he will be leaving Luanda in about 3 weeks for a place
called Menongue which is in the southern part of the country.
Meanwhile, he is hopeful the shipment will arrive in time so he
can take all of his equipment at once to Menongue and not miss
out on the CQWW SSB Contest. QSL via PA3DMH.
EY, TAJIKISTAN. Nodir, EY8MM,
reports that he and Alex/EY8CQ, Irage/EY8WW, Vlad/EY8XX,
Vlad/EY8VV, and Bruce EY8RR (AA3DK) will be active this year as
Multi/Single entry in CQ WW SSB contest as EY2Q. The station will
include a 3 element monobanders for 40, 20, 15 and 10 meters. For
80 meters they will use a Rombic antenna and an inverted Vee for
160 meters.
FO, FRENCH POLYNESIA. Eric,
F5CCO, will be on Tahiti during the months of November and
December. He is there mainly on business, but he will be active
on the weekends and if possible after work. He should be on the
island November 15th and will stay for about 4 or 5 weeks there.
Particular attention will be given for 80 and 40 meters. He
currently does not know what his callsign will be but will
receive it upon his arrival.
IR, ITALY. GianFederico, IK0AZG,
states he will air the special callsign IR0C during the next CQWW
SSB Contest. QSL via home call.
J3, GRENADA. From November
16-26th, a group from the Yankee Clipper Contest Club (YCCC) will
be operating from here. Operators are as follows: J38AA -
Ann/WA1S, J38AB - Paul/K1XM, J38AC - Al/W1FJ, J38AD - Joe/KM1P,
J38AE - Charlotte/KQ1F and J38AF Rich/K2WR. They will be
operating in the CQWW CW Contest as a Multi/Multi entry with 3
stations (possibly 4) with amplifiers at each station and
monobanders on 10, 15, 20 and 40 meters. They will have wire
antennas for 80 and 160 meters. Paul, KX1M, is trying to get a
short call for the contest operation. Their backup callsign will
be J38AA. All contest QSLs will be via Charlotte, KQ1F.
KC6, REP. BELAU. Just a
reminder! Start looking for the Oklahoma DX Association members,
Coy, N5OK (KC6OK), and Dave, N5CG (KC6GG), to be active for the
next 4 to 8 weeks. Coy plans to try 160 meters everyday. (Refer
to OPDX.272).
P4, ARUBA. Mike, K4PI, will be
