4X9 & 4Z9, ISRAEL. The
prefixes of 4X9 or 4Z9 are being used by Israeli novice class
licences. Following the 9 digit, there should be 3 letters suffix
(e.g. 4Z9FIG). This licence permits operating on HF (40 and 15
meters) in CW mode only.
6Y, JAMAICA. Fred Maia, W5YI
(editor of the W5YI Report), will be operating as W5YI/6Y5,
August 11-18th. Look for his 5-watt CW signal 10-40 kHz up from
the bottom of the 20 and 40 meters bands. QSL to his home
address: P. O. Box 565101, Dallas TX 75356-5101.
A35, TONGA (UPDATE). An update
received direct from Paul Kidd, KK6H, now signing A35RK, states
he arrived in Tonga on July 31st. He became active on August 1st
and at the present, he is operating 40-30-20-17-15 meters with
operations on CW/RTTY/AMTOR. He is expecting a
"package" of new antennas from Force 12 soon. When they
arrive he will be active on 80-10 meters. Paul states again there
will be NO 160 meter operation at present, and it's very doubtful
that he will have a 160 meter antenna in the near future. Paul
also mentions the following: "The "A35 BURO"
situation is still uncertain. Discussions with the Director of
Tonga Telecom, Hama Naati, are in progress. What we may end up
with...and this is only a very preliminary speculation...is a
bureau which will only handle cards for paid-up members of the
Tonga Amateur Radio Society."
