5A1A QSL UPDATE. Carl, N4AA,
editor of QRZ DX, reports details have been worked out for a
stateside QSL manager to handle QSLs for U.S. contacts with the
5A1A operation of July 1995. ONLY (repeat ONLY) contacts with the
Ukrainian operartion in July 1995 will be handled. The last day
of their operation was July 25, 1995. Contacts with the
continuing Libyan national's 5A1A operation CANNOT be confirmed.
The stateside QSL Manager for 5A1A (Ukrainian operation) will be
N4AA. The only requirement will be an SASE. If you have already
QSLed to the original LZ or OM managers, or if you have QSLed
directly to Toly in Kiev, you do not need to QSL again. Those
will be answered 100%.
5X, UGANDA (NEWS)... The DXNS
report the following Ugandian News: Peter, ON6TT, who obtained
the callsign 5X1T on May 30th, will be QRT for two weeks from
June 21st when he returns to Belgium on holiday. Also, Ake,
SM4ARJ, (one of his technicians) will probably be 5X1AR or
5X1ARJ. QSL 5X1T via ON5NT..... Father Sebastiano's, 5X4C,
mission was attacked on April 12th and the radio station was
damaged and equipment stolen. He is currently QRT and welcomes
any help to be active again...... Paul, 5X4F, and his wife Peggy,
5X4G, have gone QRT and have returned to the USA. During his
eight month operation, Paul made over 12400 QSOs (including 650
on 160m and 1650 on 80m) most of which were with 100W solar
powered.
9M2, WEST MALAYSIA. Tex, 9M2TO,
has finally received his 6 meter four element yagi. He reports he
will be watching 6 meters when he is in the shack. His 6 meter
system is anIC-551, 150w Mirage amp and 4 element HB9CV.
BV, TAIWAN. There will be a
station signing BO0KS from Kin-Men (Quemoy) Island (AS-102), July
26-29. QSL via BV2KI.
GW, WALES. The WestNet DX will
be active again from the Welsh Island group EU-124 in the IOTA
contest (July 27-28th) as GW4VEQ (or perhaps with a special
contest call).
IOTA NEWS... Peter, SP5PB, will
be active from the Italian Veneto Region Group (EU-131) and the
German/Polish island Usedom (EU-129) until July 6th as SP5PB/1.
Activity will be on CW/SSB and on the usual IOTA frequencies. QSL
via home call: Piotr Brydak, Okolnik 9A/16, 00368 Warszawa,
Poland. Peter plans a similar operation from these islands in
September, 1996.
J52, GUINEA-BISSAU. Dave, KC9IM
(remembered by some as 4K0IM, TL8IM, YB0AIM, KH2AD or KC6GZ),
will be off to Guinea-Bissau in July and should be on in plenty
of time for the CQ WW DX Contest in October. He will be there for
the next two years and hopes to be signing J52IM. He will be
active on 40-10 meters, SSB and CW. He plans to take his PK-232
along for RTTY operations. QSLs will be via KB9XN.
KH8, AMERICAN SAMOA. Don, N5OLS,
will be active for the next three years as KH8/N5OLS. Operations
will be on all bands/modes. He is frequently on SSB 14218 and
14224 kHz, or CW on 14030 kHz at 0300z. QSL via AA5BL or direct
to Don Barclay, Box 8, Pago Pago, AS 96799, USA.
NEW IOTA! Steve, AA6LF, who was
recently active from OC-172 and OC-187, said that he hopes to
operate from Ashmore Reef (located in Northern Territory
Outliers) the first week of August. He doesn't know what
permissions are required yet, but he will try to work them out
when he reaches Darwin. If Steve is successful, this will be an
all-time new IOTA group.
OY, FAROE ISLANDS. Ingo, SM0DSF,
will visit Faroe Islands for 14 days starting June 22nd. He plan
to be active as OY/SM0DSF. Between a visiting conference and
being out looking at nature, most of his operating time for
amateur radio will be during the first week. QSL to homecall, CBA
or bureau.
QSL CARDS UPDATES....
There is a delay for LU6Z (South Orkney Island) cards
coming out due to a problem with the printer. Alberto,
LU1DZ, hopes the first mailing will be around the end of
June....
The recent operation to the Blasket Islands EU-007 by the
WestNet & Saltee Dogs DX Groups made over 4000 QSOs
on all bands from 160-2 meters. The QSL cards for the
operation are being printed in Italy and must then be
shipped to EI for distribution, so there will be a delay
before the cards start to appear, but they will do their
best to minimize it......
The WestNet team looks forward to meeting many of you
again from EU-124 in the IOTA contest as GW4VEQ (or
perhaps with a special contest call)....
3W1D QSL cards. Marcin, SP5ES, reports he is getting many
claims about poor service of 3W1D QSL cards made by him.
The operation was done by the Russian operators. Marcin
was only a mail drop off to avoid the theft by Russian
postal workers. The cards were collected by him and
safely shipped via a carrier to Moscow. So no one card
could dissappear by postage. He can only take the
responsibility for the forwarding of the cards. If anyone
still needs a 3W1D card, they can contact Marcin; he does
have the logs for 1992 operation and still has some
QSLs.....

SPECIAL PREFIXES. Industry
Canada (Montreal) has authorized all Canadian Amateurs to use
special prefixes to mark the 100th Anniversary of the Yukon Gold
Discovery from 0000z, June 8th through 2400z August 8th, 1996.
Canadian Amateurs may use special prefixes as follows: Regular
Prefixes/Special Prefixes, VA2/VD2, VA3/VD3, VE1/VC1, VE2/VC2
VE3/VC3, VE4/VC4, VE5/VC5, VE6/VC6, VE7/VC7, VE8/VC8, VE9/VC9,
VO1/CZ5, VO2/CZ4, VY1/CK3 and VY2/CK4.
The Special Prefix VF6 will be used during the
period of June 23-26th, by Calgary amateurs in honor of The
Rotary Convention being held in Calgary. Also, Special Event
Station VF6RFR will be on the air during this time.
YK, SYRIA. Marco operates from
the Golan Heights occupied station as VE3MJQ/YK. He reports that
he has only 2 more months left in the camp before he leaves for
Canada. The station is 22 years old and is also used for CFARS
(military) operation. His location is 65 km West of Damascus and
near to Quneitra. The name of his camp is called Ziouani and is
shared with a Japaneese contingent. North America stations should
look around 14200 kHz at 1900z to 2200z. QSL via CBA. His QSL
card is going to be a very nice picture of the site.
ZC4 Problems. Roger, G3SXW,
reports some distressing news from ZC4-land. Currently
non-residents of the British Sovereign Base Areas will not be
permitted to operate amateur radio. Resident licensees may
continue to operate, but it seems that visitors will not be
welcomed. Naturally, the circumstances are somewhat unclear, but
it would appear that sponsorship from one of the two SBA radio
clubs will be required, and they are not currently willing to
co-operate with non-residents.
ZF, CAYMAN ISLANDS. Look for
Wondy/ZF2KR, Stan/ZF2MP and Mike/ZF2PA from June 22-26th. They
will sign portable ZF8, as they will be on Little Cayman Island.
Operations will be on CW, SSB, and RTTY. General and Advance
classes should look for them on CW 30 kHz from the band edge.
Meanwhile, Art, WB8YFE, is planning to be active from June 25th
to July 2nd with emphasis on 6 meters.
ZK1, SOUTH COOK ISLANDS (North Cook in
1998!). Bruce, AA8U, one of the operators (including
K8MJZ, AG8W and KA8KZJ) for the upcoming South Cook Islands
operation, July 11-21st mentions the following: "There is a
really nifty web site that is worth the time to check out. Lots
of neat pictures and information about the North and South Cook
Islands. If you would like to see where we will be operating
from, look into it:" http://www.ck/raro.htm Bruce and the others
have been working real hard to make sure they have decent
antennas and equipment for their trip to South Cook. Bruce says
he is already planning for another return trip to the Cooks. The
next time will be to RF deprived North Cook Islands! This will
take place in November of 1998.
ZS, SOUTH AFRICA. Dave, ZS6RVG,
reports he is on most weekends. Check on 14184 kHz at 1600z.
ZS8, MARION ISLAND. Chris,
ZS8IR, is very willing (time permitting) to schedule QSOs with
operators via Internet. His E-mail address is: "cdebeer@cis.co.za".
Chris gets his E-mail in batches via a satellite link. On an
interesting note, you might want to look at a description of his
stay on Marion Island which can be found with the following URL: http://cpcug.org/user/wfeidt/Contest/zs8ir.html
