Holger is preparing log periodic dipole arrays from wires for the
low bands. If anyone needs 9H on 160/80/40 meters, this may be
your chance to get these band points. They will be active all
nights during this time. The callsigns for Birgit and Holger are

News" newspaper in Guam, titled "Family selling Palmyra
Atoll to New York firm". Excerpts from the article state:
"The Fullard-Leo family of Honolulu is selling Palmyra Atoll
to the New York investment firm of KVR Inc. The sale price for
the atoll located 1,000 miles south of Hawaii was not disclosed.
The last listed price, from about four years agao, was $36
million. The sale was said to be for more than that but under $50
million, "The Honolulu Advertiser" reported Saturday.
"The new owner was thinking about using Palmyra for
scientific research and hotel development", Peter Savio
(listing agent for the sale). The atoll, covers about 6,000 acres
of lagoons and land, with about 600 acres of dry land which has
never been developed.... Palmyra was bought by the parents of
brothers Ainsley, Dubley and Leslie Fullard-Leo in 1922....

P5, NORTH KOREA (DPRK). The DPRK project
group, which is headed by Mr. Chen Ping, BA1HAM, Deputy Secretary

and discussing additional steps required to establish amateur

tentative trip to the DPRK has been re-scheduled to the second
half of April because of a variety of reasons. Among them are
that currently there are only sporadic flight connections from
Beijing. An exceptionally severe winter is effecting the normal
life in the DPRK. The underlying aim of the DPRK project is to
establish permanent activity with the large base of radio
communications enthuasists that are currently involved in ARDF
(Amateur Radio Direction Finding) as well as in class- room morse
competitions. (This was an excerpt from a OH2BH/VR2BH press
release provided by N7NG. An added bulletin with the whole press
release will be sent out to all OPDX subscriber on InterNet.)

ZL8RI KERMADEC ISLAND DXPEDITION UPDATE. The
DXpedition team of Ken/ZL2HU, Chris/ZL2DX, Ron/ZL2TT, Lee/ZL2AL,
Al/WA3YVN and one Japanese operator (to be announced) will be
active for eleven days from Kermadec, May 4-14th. The team will
depart from New Zealand, April 30th, aboard the Research Vessel

team in New Zealand and meets the highest specifications of
reliability, safety, and has some of the best communications,
navigation and mechanical system available (charter cost
$25,000). The ship has two Zodiacs and two additional safe
landing crafts. However, the DX team URGENTLY needs your
financial support to raise the remaining $21,000 needed by April.
The team states no donation is too small and ALL donations will
be used for non-personal expenses. Donations can be sent to: SGI
Expeditions - Kermadec Project, P.O. Box 2235, Melbourne, FL
32902-2235. Make checks payable to: SGI DX-pedition for Kermadec
Project and include your call sign on the check or envelope.

ZL9, AUCKLAND ISLAND. Graham, ZL4MV, is now
active as ZL9GD for a seven day operation (weather permitting),
possibly ending February 22nd. Graham had only a 24 hours notice
to go on this trip, so he took up on the offer. Graham suggests
listening for him on SSB on 14260 kHz (+/-) and 7060 kHz (+/-)
maybe QSX up for USA. Graham says listen carefully because he
will be only running a 100 watts (no linear - no generator - only
battery power). He will not be operating "on board a
ship" this trip.
