3B8, MAURITIUS. Peter, DK1RP (ex-8Q7AB,
ex-SV5/DK1RP/P, ex-J6/DK1RP) will be visiting Jacky, 3B8CF, on
the 16th of February and will be there for about two weeks.
Activity is planned for 80-10 meter including the WARC bands with
operations on CW/SSB. QSL via the German DARC bureau, when the
cards are printed.
5W, WESTERN SAMOA. The DXNS report Adriano,
IK2GNW, will be active February 23-25th, probably as 5W1NW. Some
operations will be on CW and RTTY but mainly on SSB. Activity
will be on all bands, 160-6 meters with priority for Europe,
especially LF bands. Check daily at 1630z on 3.8+ MHz and QSX
below. QSL to home call.
9L1PG/9L1MG QSL UPDATE. Scott, AA8SM, reports
that Paul/9L1PG and Millie/9L1MG have not been able to get their
logs out of Sierre Leone due to the government shutdowns. He was
able to receive their logs via a fax for their QSL Manager Cecil,
NW8F. The logs for 9L1MG were dated December 22-26, 1995 (approx.
100 QSOs) and for 9L1PG they were dated December 22-26, 1995
(approx. 675 QSOs). If you have been waiting on your cards for
these two stations, please be patient. Cecil, NW8F, will be
getting the cards out soon. Please send him an SASE.
9M2, WEST MALAYSIA. Tex, 9M2TO, reports he
will be in the CQWW 160M Contest. JA1XAC will be sending him a
160 meter antenna to use. He hasn't decided on what frequency to
use, but he states he will transmit around around 1900 +/-.
A3, KINGDOM OF TONGA. Paul, KK6H, will sign
A35RK between February 20th and March 20th. Modes of operation
will be primarily CW and RTTY. Paul states he will be on SSB if
he gets REALLY bored. This is a "business trip" in
preparation for a permanent re-location to Tonga in July, but he
should be able to get on the air for at least a couple of hours
each day (most likely between 1700-1900z and 0500-0900z). He
reports he will NOT be on 160 meters this trip. A35RK will be
active from each of the following IOTA islands at one time or
another, but the exact dates are to be arranged upon arrival:
Tongatapu group OC-049, Ha'apai group OC-169 and Vava'u group
OC-064. A new QSL route will be used for this operation and all
past, plus future A35RK operations, QSL via: Direct to W7TSQ,
Robert Preston, 809 Cary Road, Edmonds, WA 98020 USA (W7 bureau
c/o W7TSQ). Please... DO NOT send cards to KK6H, W6 bureau, or A3
bureau!
CALLSIGN CHANGE. As reported last week,
John/K9UWA and Jean/N9PXF are going to Aruba for the CQWW 160 CW
Contest (January 26-28th). John has changed his callsign that was
previously announced due to a conflict with Mike's, K4PI, P49I
opeartion which takes place during the same time. Instead of
using P40I, John will use the callsign P40WA. (Refer to OPDX.238
more details.)
D2TT AND D3T QSL CARDS. Peter, ON6TT, reports
cards for the July-August 1995 operations have arrived from the
printer. ON5NT, his QSL Manager, is mailing them right now.
"Sorry for the delay," de Peter, ON6TT.
GU, GUERNSEY (160M this coming weekend!).
Steve, GU3MBS, reports people keep telling him they need GU for a
new 160 meters country. So, next weekend a temporary dipole will
be put up at the Guernsey ARS HQ and operations will take place
at the club station GU3HFN during the night of January 27-28th to
take part in the CQWW 160M CW Contest. DX stations needing GU
will have to listen carefully in the uproar for a modest signal
(FT-990 with no amp, & not-very-high dipole). QSL via bureau,
or direct to Guernsey ARS GU3HFN, P. O. Box 100, Guernsey GY1
3EL, via UK. [These are the ONLY routes for GU3HFN QSLs].
IOTA NEWS...
Paz Island, IOTA SA-027 (DIB: 063, DFB: SC-01) will be
active next week (January 26-28th). Operations will be on
CW/SSB with activity on 10-80 meters. The callsign is not
known yet. Check the IOTA frequencies and the Brazil DX
Nets for operations and updates. QSL via PP5LL.
JUST A REMINDER! Later in the week, Robben Island
(AF-064) will be active. A group led by Barry,
ZS1FJ/G4MFW, will be on CW/SSB/RTTY with activity on
80-10 meters. Length of operation will be from January
26-29th. The callsign will be ZS64RI. QSLs via KA1JC.
J7, DOMINICA. Scott, N9JCL, reports that he
has received the callsign J77A, so look him, Tom/K0SN, Paul/WC9E
and Jim/AA9PB to be active until January 25th. As this bulletin
was being prepared, QSNs show that they were active on 40, 75 and
80 meters. QSL via K0SN. (Refer to OPDX.236 for more details.)
JW, SVALBARD. Claude, F6EOZ, will on the boat
with Jean Louis Etienne (French Artic and Antarctic explorer) in
Svalbard from March 3rd until the middle of May. He will use
JW/F6EOZ/MM or JW/TM6E/MM callsign specially in satellite and 20
meters.
KH9 DXPEDITION (Final News Update). The
following is an edited excerpt from a press release by Don,
WB2DND: "The Dateline DX Association is pleased to publish
this update on its plans to activate Wake Island, February 1-7th.
This will be a one week, all band, all mode (including Satellite)
operation by 4 experienced operators with the intention of taking
KH9 off the DX Bulletin's most needed 100 list and satisfying the
large European demand. Wake ranked 86 overall but in the top 20
for Europeans. The call used will be AL7EL/KH9. KC7V has had to
pass on going due to business comittments. We will miss you Mike.
N6EK, Bob Fabry, will join the team as the fourth
operator--welcome aboard. Our needed equipment has been acquired.
Wake Island is currently a limited access U. S. Military
Installation located 19* 17' N. 166* 39' E. It is the first
American possession in time zone #1, approximately 2300 miles
West of Hawaii. The new QSL route will be K4HQI: Lloyd Westbrook,
Box 368, Commerce, GA 30529. Please direct your comments to

KP4, PUERTO RICO. Ken KP4XS reports that a
contest team is being put together to be active in CQWW WPX SSB
Contest which takes place in March. The current team line up is:
160m-ND3F, 75m-W4MYA, 40m-open, 20m-KF3P, 15m-KP4XS and
10m-W2EOS. Ken states they need a "GREAT" 40 meter
operator! The SSB operator needs to know the ropes on 40 meters;
one who can handle the QRM and knows the splits, etc. The WPX SSB
contest is the last weekend of March and the team will be a
Multi/Multi entry. The KP4XS Puerto Rico QTH will be the
operating site. It is located in SW Puerto Rico on 18 acres and
sits on a hilltop at 220 feet above sea level with ocean views
from north to west to south. KP5 is easily seen from "THE
HILL". All accomodations are provided. The only thing you
provide is your own airfare. If interested on becoming the 40

P5, NORTH KOREA. The latest rumor on this one
is reported in Inside DX: "Watch for OH2BH, OH0XX, and
possible others from here starting around mid to late
February."
PACIFIC DXPEDITION. Adriano, IK2GNW, will be
active from American Samoa (KH8) February 18-22nd as KH8/IK2GNW,
Western Samoa (5W) February 23-25th (probably as 5W1NW), Tonga
(A35) February 25-29th (probably as A35NW) and Hawaii (KH6) March
1-3th as KH6/IK2GNW. Some operations will be on CW and RTTY but
mainly on SSB. Activity will be on all bands, 160-6 meters with
priority for Europe, especially LF bands. Check daily at 1630z on
3.8+ MHz and QSX below. QSL to home call.
VP5, TURKS & CAICOS. Joe, K8JP, will be
here February 11-19th. Operations will be mostly on CW, low bands
and the WARC bands. He callsign will be VP5/K8JP, but he plans to
participate in the ARRL DX CW Contest as VP5JP (Single/OP entry).
Joe will also be going on an over-night IOTA trip to Salt Cay
(NA-003), in the Turks Islands. QSL to K8JP's new address: Joe

The DXNL reports Koji, JJ2QEH, and Mack, JJ2QXI,
have rented the shack of VP5JM and want to make as many contacts
as possible from February 3-9th. Each operator will handle their
own QSLs for the QSOs made via the bureau or direct. JJ2QEH via
Koji Iida, 1866-2, Ota, Minokamo, Gifu 505, Japan and JJ2QXI via
Masahiro Mori, 1268, Atobe, Mugegawa, Mugi, Gifu 501-26, Japan.
XV, VIETNAM. JA3UB, JR3MVF and JH3GRE will be
visiting the club station in Ho-chi-minh City from February
9-15th. They were asked to maintain their equipment and antennas
at the club. In their spare time, they will be active on 160-6
meters SSB/CW including WARC bands using 500watts and wire
antennas for the low bands. Callsign and QSL route will be

81+727-22-5959. ADDED NOTE: As this bulletin was being prepared a
station, XV1A, was reported on the 14226 DX Net at 1615z Sunday
(January 21st).
XV7SW UPDATE. Hans, K0HB, reports hearing
Rolf, XV7SX, on 160 meters, and that Rolf plans to be active more
regularly on 1827 kHz at his sunrise in Hanoi at 2330z. Europeans
report hearing Rolf on 3505 kHz around 0000z.
XZ, MYANMAR. DXNS reports that XZ1A will be
active in the CQWW 160 Meter Contest. Meanwhile, Pekka, OH1RY,
says he and OH1MA will be active January 26th through February
3rd as XZ1R. More details are forthcoming.
