425 DX NEWS SURVEY - The 425 DX News DXCC

C5 - Look for the C53M team from The Gambia
[425DXN 602] to be QRV in the ARRL 160 Meter Contest this

DL_ant - Felix Riess, DL5XL will be working
as radio operator and electronics engineer at the German
"Neumayer" base (WABA DL-03) on the Eckstrom Ice Shelf
(AN-016), Antarctica during the austral winter (not summer, as
reported in 425 DX News #603) season, from March through November
2003. He plans to operate when time permits, mainly on CW (but
also on SSB, RTTY, PSK31 and HELL) as DP1POL. QSl via DL1ZBO
either direct (Rainer Hilgardt, Hans-Sachs-Weg 38, D-64291
Darmstadt, Germany) or through the DARC bureau. For further

FO - Alain, F2HE/FO5RH will be back to French
Polynesia on 6 December; he plans to be on Maupiti Island
(OC-067) around Christmas. [TNX F6AJA]
I - Special call IU7LE will be aired from ARI
Lecce during the weekends in December to celebrate the 75th
anniversary of ARI, the Italian amateur radio IARU society. QSL
via I7PXV either direct or through the bureau. [TNX IK7JWX]
KL - John, KL7JR has been on Shemya Island
(NA-037) since 24 November [425DXN 602] and will be back on the
amateur radio bands on 1 December. Look for him around 28495 or
14260 kHz after 20 UTC. QSL direct to home call. [TNX KL7JR]
LU_ant - Dominik, DL5EBE reports that three
Argentine Antarctic stations are expected to show up on 30
November on 21365 kHz at 21 UTC, on a net controlled by Masa,
JE1LET. They are LU1ZD from "San Martin" base (WABA
LU-11), located on Barry Island in Marguerite Bay (AN-016); LU1ZG
from "Belgrano II" base (WABA LU-08), located on the
Luitpold Coast of Coats Land (AN-016); LU1ZV from
"Esperanza" base (WABA LU-06), located on the Trinity
Peninsula (AN-016).
P4 - Ken, K6TA (P40TA) and Kay, K6KO (P40K)
will be active from Aruba (SA-036) on 3-17 December, including
operations in the ARRL 10 Meter Contest (P40K, multi-single) and
in the and ARRL 160 Meter CW Contest (P40TA, single operator).
Outside the contests they will concentrate on the WARC bands and
hopefully 6 metres. QSLs via WM6A. [TNX The Daily DX]
UA - Weather permitting, Lex, RU0LM will be
active as RU0LM/0 from Shikotan Island (AS-062) in early December
for about five days. [TNX UA0MF]
VK9_xms - Kunio, JA8VE will be active (mainly
on 20 and 15 metres SSB) as VK9XE from Christmas Island (OC-002)
on 7-14 December. QSL via JA1KJW (Nakayama Hisashi, 1-17-8

ZD8 - Jim, N6TJ will be active again as ZD8Z
from Ascension Island (AF-003) on 6-17 December, including an
entry in the ARRL 10 Meter Contest. He will operate on all bands,

ZK3 - Atsu, 5W1SA will operate from Tokelau
(OC-048) for a couple of weeks starting on 2 December. His ZK3
callsign (hopefully ZK3SA) will be issued upon arrival. QSL via

ZS - Rudi, ZS6DX will be running special
event station ZS02AM (the AM standing for African Moment) from 30
November to 31 December. The first "special event" to
celebrate will be the total solar eclipse on 4 December. Rudi
will be active on 160-6 metres SSB and CW. QSL via ZS6DX.
ZS_ant - Dominik, DL5EBE reports that Anton,
ZS7/ZS4AGA will be staying at "E-Base" (WABA ZS-04) for
the next week. He plans to be on 21275 kHz at 17 UTC on Monday,
while USA amateurs should look for him on 14160 at 22 UTC. QSL
via ZS4A.

P5/4L4FN QRT - Ed, P5/4L4FN has been QRT
from North Korea since Friday evening (22 November), when
the local Radio Regulation Board, without any
explanation, asked him to quit all transmissions and pack
all his radio equipment. The day after Ed disassembled
his antennas and in the afternoon one of the government
officials came by and sealed all the boxes. When Ed
leaves on 10 December for his two weeks vacation he shall
take everything with him out of the country. "The
end came unexpectedly and now we all have to accept it as
final QRT of P5/4L4FN operation", Ed says, "I'm
absolutely sure that there is no way back to it due to
several reasons. For the 'final', many thanks to all
HAM's worldwide, you all made my life much easier and
better, and my deepest appreciation for all your
support". Ed will keep all the equipment for his
next duty station. Any money received from now on will be
donated to the "ZL1AMO Air Ambulance Fund".
P5/4L4FN made a total of 16194 QSOs, with 12170 unique
callsigns logged (statistics are available at http://www.amsatnet.com/p5stats.html).
We should like to express our deepest thanks on behalf of
all the amateur radio operators worldwide who have had
the pleasure of working Ed for an all time new Entity.
PACIFIC CRUISE ---> The Daily DX
reports that Harry, W6YOO will be cruising from Los
Angeles (departure 2 December) to Sydney (arrival 3
January) and expects to visit several islands during his
voyage. He plans to operate QRP (mostly on 14040 and
14260 kHz) for a few hours from as many of the following
stops as possible:

has the logs and QSL cards for Chuck's recent operation
from Wake Island. She has also been given all the direct
requests received so far by N4BQW, so there is no need to

currently active as S21YY from Dhaka, Bangladesh. He used
to give his own home call as QSL route, but now he has

just got back home and is going to process QSL card

QSL VIA W8CNL ---> Leo, K8PYD, one of
the many volunteers at the ARRL incoming 8th area QSL
bureau, reports they receive a large quantity of QSLs
each month for 9K2ZZ and 9K9Z to be forwarded to the QSL
Manager, W8CNL. Please note that QSL cards for 9K2ZZ and
9K9Z should be sent direct only to Ray McClure, 5
McKenzie Circle, North Augusta, SC 29841-4319, USA.
Bureau cards will be neither forwarded nor returned to
sender, but destroyed.
ZONE 19 ---> Mike Filippov, UA0MF is
glad to arrange skeds with those who need Zone 19 on the

SILENT KEY - Former ARRL Headquarters
staff member Robert L. White, W1CW died on 22 November at
83 years of age. First licensed in 1938, he was the
manager of the ARRL's DX Century Club program from 1952
until 1976, establishing the award as Amateur Radio's
premier DX achievement.
SILENT KEY - The OPDX Bulletin reports
that Agustin "Papo" Santana, WP4Q, one of the
most dedicated DXers in Puerto Rico, became a SK on 21
November.
SILENT KEY - The Daily DX repots that
FOC member Ursula Sadler, VP2MT/G0IHM died on 23 November
at 78 years of age. During World War II she was a radio
operator at Bletchley Park, keeping contact with Danish
and Norwegian underground forces.
