3W - The first DXpedition to Cham Island
(AS-???) [425DXN 547] is now scheduled to take place on 13-18
March, with two stations active on 160 through 6 metres SSB and
CW. The team include Yuki/JI6KVR (team leader), Shu/JA6IEF,
Hau/3W2LI and his son 3W2KA; they will operate as XV3C, 3W3C,
3W2LI/3 and 3W2KA/3 respectively. QSL XV3C via EA5KB (Jose F.
Ardid Arlandis, P.O. Box 5013, 46080 Valencia, Spain) QSL 3W3C

3W - 3W3M is the call issued to Jack, F6BUM
for his forthcoming activity from Vietnam [425DXN 557]. He
confirms his itinerary as follows: 14-16 March from Tam Island
(AS-157), 21-23 March from Cham Island (AS-???) and 3-5 April
from Cat Ba Island (AS-132). QSL via home call. [TNX F6BUM]
7Q - Harry, G0JMU/7Q7HB is now up and running
with a new antenna and amplifier. He will be leaving Malawi on 28
April. QSL direct only via G0IAS (Allan Hickman, The Conifers,
High Street, Elkesley, Retford, DN22 8AJ Notts, UK - do not send
bureau cards for any of the 7Q stations managed by him). [TNX
G0IAS]
HK0_sa - Gerd, DL7VOG will be active as HK0GU
from San Andres Island (NA-033) for a month starting on 14 March.
He might also operate from Providencia (NA-049). QSL via home
call (bureau cards can be requested at dl7vog@darc.de). [TNX The Daily
DX]
I - The 9-10 March operation from Isola
Grande di Porto Cesareo (EU-091, IIA LE-002) [425DXN 565] has
been cancelled due to Frank's (IZ7AUH) unexpected business
commitments. [TNX IZ7AUH]
JA - Look for Shin, JI3ACL/4 and Shige,
JI3CEY/4 to be active (with two stations on 160-6 metres CW and
SSB) from the Oki Islands (AS-041) on 16-18 March. QSL via home
calls. [TNX JI3ACL]
P5 - There is conflicting information about
YT1AD's operation from North Korea. "Wolf Harranth, OE1WHC
reports receiving a phone call about 1730Z from Hrane,
YT1AD", The Daily DX reports. "Hrane was supposedly at
the airport in Rome, presumably heading back to Belgrade."
At the same time Mome, Z32ZM says he talked with Hrane in
Pyongyang. According to Mome, "they have in hand all needed
documentation & permition's EXCEPT the permition for transmit
by Amateur Radio", which they hopefully will receive on
Monday (11 March). What is sure is that they have not been active
so far and that P5/YT1AD was a pirate.
T8 - Bad weather forced Bill, T88BA to change
his plans for his his voyage to the South Palau group (OC-248/Pr)
[425DXN 565]. He also has had to revise the times on the various
islands due to work commitments. The new timetible is as follows:

the country. Peter, ON6TT, was here for 2 days, but just too busy

GOOD TO KNOW - Edited by I1JQJ & IK1ADH
ELECTRONIC QSL POLICY ---> The
following is an abstract from an ARRL News Release dated
7 March: " Recent discussion regarding the QSL
service offered by eQSL.cc (TM) suggests that there is
some confusion about ARRL QSL policy. Simply put, there
has been no change in League policy regarding eQSLs. ARRL
does not accept QSLs that have been transmitted to the
recipient via electronic means for its awards. Anyone,
acting as an authorized QSL manager, however, may receive
logs via email (or any other direct means) and send QSL
cards, via post mail, to recipients. This is the
traditional QSL manager process. As has always been the
case, certain norms are expected when handling cards in
this manner. First, we expect that a QSL manager will
seek permission from operators for whom QSLs are handled.
Second, we expect that a QSL manager will do the checking
required to assure that only real contacts are verified.
Also, we expect to be able to identify cards as authentic
(cards should be personalized or otherwise made unique
through the use of a stamp or other personal mark -
signature or initials - across a label boundary).
Finally, we consider it an ethics violation if cards can
only be claimed through payment of a fee, and thus we
will not accept cards for DXCC credit for which a fixed
charge is made." For further information please
contact Wayne Mills, N7NG (n7ng@arrl.org)
or visit http://www.arrl.org/news/stories/2002/03/07/100/?nc=1.
PW0T ---> The team had already
started to tear down the stations and antennas preparing
for departure on 2 March when they were informed that
they would stay on the island until Monday (4 March) at
noon. They were able to participate in the ARRL SSB
Contest on all bands as a Multi-Single entry, while
another station operated CW on 20, 15 and 10 metres
during the weekend. [TNX N4AA]
QSL 9J2BO ---> W6ORD is no longer the
QSL manager for Brian, 9J2BO. Cards should now be sent to
Mike Mills, G3TEV either direct or through the RSGB
bureau.
QSL CQ1CV ---> Paulo, CT1ETE says
that the QSL cards for CQ1CV are not yet ready, please be
patient.
QSL K3J ---> Ron Phillips, AH6HN, QSL
manager for the September 2001 K3J operaton from Johnston
Atoll, says the cards are still at the printer's in
Germany. [TNX WU8Q]
QSL RW1AI/ANT ---> Mike, RW1AI will
be active from "Vostok" base (AN-016, WABA
UA-010), Antarctica for the next 11 months. Cards should
be sent via home call either direct (Mikhail Fokin, P.O.
Box 2, St.Petersburg, 195009 Russia) or through the
bureau, but he will not be able to process any request
until he goes back home in February 2003. Logs for
RW1AI/ANT and Mike's previous activities as R1AND
(May-December 1999) and R1ANP (January-March 2000) are
available at http://www.qsl.net/ua1ake/logs. [TNX
UA1AKE]
QSL XE2P ---> Ron, AC7DX is no longer
the USA manager for XE2P, as he has "tried
repeatedly and been unable to secure the logs".
QSL MANAGER OFFERED ---> Peter
Occhipinti, KT4XP has recently become disabled and offers
his services as QSL manager for a DX station. Please
contact him at murray360@aol.com.
QSL VIA VE7DP ---> Frank, VE7DP
reports that almost all QSL cards for his February 2001
IOTA operations ( VE7DP/DU1, 4I1P and 4H2B) have been
sent out. The backlog of direct requests was completed 6
months ago, while cards for all others are going out via
bureau, as a QSL is being sent to every station in the
log.
QSL VIA ZK1CG ---> Victor, ZK1CG
reports that two boxes of QSL cards for ZK1CG (North
Cooks) and ZK1USA (North and South Cooks) were mailed on
4 March. If you do not receive your card(s) feel free to
e-mail Victor (sales@computers.co.ck).
Please note that the cards (handled by VE7XF) for the
group that went to Manihiki Atoll for the CQWW SSB
Contest have not been received from the printers so far.
TAIWAN PREFIXES ---> It seems that
the CTARL QSL bureau is getting cards for Chinese
stations. Tony Kuo, BX2AC (ex BV2TA) reminds DXers that
BM, BN, BO, BP, BQ, BU, BV, BW and BX belong to Taiwan,
while BA-BL, BR-BT, BY and BZ belong to China.
TI9M ---> The Cocos Island TI9M
DXpedition went QRT on 2 March at 12.00 UTC and left the
island four hours later. The finally tally was
approximately 80,000 QSOs (including 2000+ contacts made
in 12 hours during the ARRL SSB DX Contest) after ten
days of non stop operation. One site was at sea level,
and a second station was installed 500 feet higher (a
great location, which however required over 100 trips to
haul equipment up and back).
